Near the Ogawacho intersection, along Bongo Street, the Baka Uma Kanda Ogawacho opened in December 2023, located at the side road next to the Kanda Ogawacho Heights on the first floor. It seems that the Baka Uma JR Okachimachi South Exit location has relocated here. There’s a private Facebook group called "Baka Uma Kanda Ogawacho Friends Association," which the owner seems to invite only regular customers to join. Baka Uma also has locations in Nishishinjuku, Tachikawa South Exit, Omiya, Kinshi-cho, and Mishima/Shimo-Tokari. Related establishments include the Uma Yakiniku Tavern Bataro and Motsu Shinji, all part of the franchise expansion by Nishigashira Co., Ltd., aiming for sixth industrialization.
They were running a grand opening service with a red-ink sale for a one-cup sake special! I tried to visit right away but found the place full. On a later visit, I was lucky to find a small table open near the entrance, allowing me to finally get a seat. The cozy interior has two six-person tables and three two-person tables. I started with a Red Star large bottle (640 yen + tax). The appetizer (350 yen + tax) included smoked horse tongue and tofu, which is enjoyed with a special horse meat soy sauce. I ordered horse meat hormone stew (590 yen + tax) and horse meat menchi-katsu (350 yen + tax) as snacks.
For my first sake, I had AKABU F NEWBORN (500 yen + tax), a seasonal limited product from the renowned Iwate sake brewery, known for its easy-to-drink and flavorful new sake. For my second sake, I aimed for Hakurakusei Junmai Ginjo Omachi (500 yen + tax), but was told, "Sorry, it's just sold out!" As a substitute, they kindly offered me a serving of Shinseki No.6. That was a delightful surprise! I later ordered a one-cup serving of Tatenokawa Junmai Daiginjo (500 yen + tax). Given the red-ink sale, the prices were surprisingly low! I also tried their grilled gyoza (450 yen), which were small with a thin shell and crispy edges, juicy, and delicious.
I enjoyed tasty horse meat dishes paired with excellent sake.
