You might think Matsuo Jingisukan doesn't match with ramen, but don't underestimate it. In these times, it's priced at ¥550 with good value for money and a simple taste. Matsuo Genghis Khan - Oshu Store There is a parking lot next to the ramen shop. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen for 550 yen from the menu. The soup is topped with oil film, green onions, menma, wood ear mushrooms, chashu, and wheat gluten, making it a nostalgic and cost-effective ramen. Although it's a Genghis Khan restaurant, during lunchtime, many people order ramen or curry. The Chashu Men, and Katsu Curry are also priced at 750 yen each, so I'm torn about what to order next time. The noren curtain at the entrance was newly replaced. It was very delicious. I will definitely visit again.

Despite being a Genghis Khan restaurant, there are many reviews about ramen, so I was curious and decided to visit the restaurant. I parked my car diagonally in the parking lot next to the restaurant and entered. I sat at a vacant table and ordered the "Salt Ramen" as usual. The ramen arrived in about 5-6 minutes. It looked like a nostalgic type of ramen. First, I tried the soup, which had a light and savory taste, but I found it slightly salty. The noodles were yellow, medium thickness, and slightly curly, which matched well with the gentle soup. As for the toppings, there were two slices of chashu, menma, fu, chopped green onions, and notably large pieces of wood ear mushrooms. I visited the restaurant for lunch, and most customers were ordering ramen, making it feel like a ramen shop at lunchtime.

This restaurant seems to be a franchise store from a few decades ago, or something similar to that. It is different from the current franchises. I remember there used to be quite a few stores in Sapporo before I moved to the mainland for work. There used to be one near my house, but it closed down a while ago. Today, I went there for lunch. I arrived at the store around 1 pm. There were only two cars in the parking lot next to the store. Inside the restaurant, only the table seats were available. I chose the "Upper Mutton Genghis Khan Set Meal" from the three Genghis Khan set meals on the menu. It costs ¥880 including tax. I chose to grill it myself. The exterior and interior of the restaurant have a nostalgic, old-fashioned feel, almost like a relic from the Showa era. However, the landlady seems younger than me, so I guess it will be fine as long as I'm alive. While waiting for my order, I thought about that. It took about 5-6 minutes for the food to arrive. The pot was already heated as the gas was turned on beforehand. The amount of meat was a bit small, but considering the price of ¥880, it was understandable. I quickly grilled the vegetables and meat on the pot. The meat cooked fast and tasted delicious. The rice was surprisingly tasty too. The Upper Mutton was also very flavorful. Overall, the meal was satisfying. The leftover juices in the pot were also delicious, and I wished I could have had more rice to pour it over. The price was reasonable, the location was convenient, so I might come back to this restaurant from time to time.

Matsuo Jingisukan Oka Tamamitsu store. I knew there was a shop, but I hadn't been there. There is a sign for yakisoba and ramen hanging. I mustered up the courage to enter. Inside, there is a large stove in the center, table seats, tatami mats, and even manga. The atmosphere is like a countryside diner. I ordered the char siu ramen (salt) from the menu. There were plenty of chicken thigh char siu slices, delicious and good value. They were coated in lard and piping hot. I might ask for firmer noodles next time. Other customers were eating pork cutlet curry and ramen. The curry looks tempting too. It was very delicious. I will definitely visit again.

I came back again for a late lunch. I was planning to have Genghis Khan, but ended up having pork cutlet curry (laughs). It has a lot of vegetables and is very filling. The taste is simple and homey. The day before I had something a little heavy, so I wanted to eat a white rice set meal for lunch. I searched around for options and found a well-known rice restaurant in Higashi-ku. My colleague also knew about it, so we decided to go there. As we went deeper into Higashi-ku, we heard that the ramen there was cheap. But I was hoping they also had rice dishes. Matsumoto Genghis Khan restaurant is not directly managed, so I wonder if they have a free menu? The ramen was 514 yen including tax. I wanted a lot of vegetables, rice, and miso soup, so I chose the vegetable stir-fry set meal for 566 yen including tax. I could hear the sound of the mother quickly stir-frying the vegetables. The taste was just like the vegetable stir-fry I make at home (laughs). It felt like I was eating at home while watching TV. The homemade pickles, cabbage and daikon with sake lees, were really delicious! The pickles made the rice even more enjoyable. The men were eating ramen. For the sake of my stomach, a menu like the vegetable stir-fry set meal is perfect. It was a great lunch! Home-cooked meals are the best. Enjoyed the meal!

It's okay...!? Really. When I tried to order miso ramen for ¥570 and a small bowl of rice for ¥100, they said, "Sorry, please wait a moment!" About 5-6 minutes later, they took my order. For some reason, even though I arrived before a group of two people, they told me, "We ran out of rice, so we can only serve dishes without rice!" The miso ramen that was served after about 15 minutes was... well... the worst I've had in recent years. The rice, which was the worst I've ever had eating out in my life, tasted like microwaved frozen rice from three years ago. And it was lukewarm. I don't think this restaurant is known for its ramen, but to run out of rice for dishes like Genghis Khan or curry... Looking at everyone else's photos, dishes like pork cutlet curry look delicious, so I might go back again, but today was a disappointment...

Miso Ramen for ¥570.

It is quietly located in the outskirts. It seems to cater more to local industrial workers rather than tourists. Despite feeling uneasy about being the only customer, I mustered up the courage to enter. They offer dishes like Genghis Khan, set meals, and ramen, typical of a local diner. I decided to order the premium lamb set meal. "Do you want to grill it yourself?" Wait, even for a set meal, I can grill it myself? The last yakitori restaurant claimed to be self-service but didn't allow me to grill it myself. Of course, I'll grill it myself! I moved to a table and started grilling. It was delicious. Maybe because it was premium quality, or maybe because I grilled it myself, but it was really delicious. It's more than enough to eat here rather than lining up like crazy in Susukino. I almost wanted to order more lamb, but I stopped myself since I've been gaining weight recently. The entrance of the restaurant says they close at 9:00 PM, but the menu says 8:00 PM. It seems they close even earlier if there are no customers.

They have Genghis Khan set meals, vegetable stir-fry set meals, yakisoba, various udon and soba, etc. I have only had the salt ramen so far, but it's like old-fashioned ramen. It costs ¥500, but I think it's delicious. I usually finish it off. Due to my age, I leave a little soup. I have had ¥700-¥750 ramen that wasn't tasty at other shops, but compared to that, I think the taste and cost performance are good. I like the firm chashu. They also have wheat gluten, menma, wood ear mushrooms (ingredients I like), and chopped green onions. Maybe they use good soup and commercial sauce. When I was in Yokohama, there was a shop that did that. They poured commercial sauce right in front of you, and that shop was delicious. It must be the skill of the person making it... There are shops that are considered famous but I wouldn't go there twice, but in this case, I have decided to revisit this shop. I would like to try the yakisoba and Genghis Khan set meal. By the way, I saw an article on the internet, it seems like there is a problem with Tabelog. I hope people don't lower the reputation of Tabelog. It's not good to criticize directly.
