During the afternoon tour, we used the 3,000 yen national support coupon for lunch. My son wanted to eat ramen, and my daughter wanted to eat curry udon. I thought they might argue, but luckily this place had both. We went to Koubaku Shokudo located inside the Michi-no-Eki. My daughter had the Biei curry udon for 930 yen and she finished it all. My son had the ramen for 650 yen. I tried a bite and the noodles tasted delicious, probably because it's a wheat-producing area. I had sausage and beer for over 1,000 yen. It was a bit expensive, but I tried to choose low-carb options that I wanted to eat. The beer was so tasty. However, after this, I made a mistake by not going to the restroom during the tour and ended up wanting to go to the restroom.

This is a restaurant located near Biei Station, inside the "Michi-no-Eki Biei Hill no Kura". I bought meal tickets from a vending machine for "Vegetable Curry" (1,100 yen) and a "Biei Milk Soft Serve (cup)" (330 yen) to eat afterwards. I was wondering if I needed to take the tickets to the counter, but then I heard a voice saying, "The soft serve is ready. Please come this way." It turns out that it's an automatic order system where you just need to sit down and wait for your food to be served. The vegetable curry was served in about 6-7 minutes and it had a generous amount of vegetables like pumpkin, potatoes, lotus root, baby corn, bell peppers, zucchini, etc. It doesn't contain meat, but the variety of vegetables made it satisfying. The curry wasn't too spicy, but had a nice level of spiciness. It also came with a side of potato salad. The Biei Milk Soft Serve was rich and creamy, with a strong milk flavor. It even came with a blue fox cookie as a special touch. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience with beautiful artwork to admire on the second floor gallery.

When my family visited Biei on a family trip, we stopped by Nakafurano to eat some melon before heading to Biei. As a result, we weren't very hungry and decided to have a light lunch. We found a restaurant called "Kamugi Shokudo" at the "Michi-no-Eki Biei Hill no Kura," just a 3-minute walk from JR Biei Station. The Michi-no-Eki is a renovated stone warehouse originally built in the early Taisho period. Kamugi Shokudo offers a variety of dishes made with fresh local ingredients from Biei. We bought our meal tickets from a vending machine and waited for our order. After about 20 minutes, our number was called, and I received the Biei town's number one popular dish, the "Biei Curry Udon." It came with Biei milk on the side. The curry udon was served as a dipping noodles style, with freshly boiled warm udon noodles topped with Biei pork, steamed pumpkin, bell pepper, shredded cabbage, cherry tomatoes, and cucumber salad. The curry dipping sauce had corn in it and had a good level of spiciness. The udon noodles had a chewy texture and paired well with the curry. I don't usually drink milk, but I was thirsty and finished the Biei milk in one go. It had a mild and refreshing taste. My wife had iced coffee with "Cheese-filled Imo Mochi," while my parents had "Kakesoba" as they were saving their appetite for dinner at the hot spring inn we were staying at.

I visited Biei for the first time in July 2022. It is a town with beautiful scenery, and places like Biei Station and the Michi-no-Eki are charming with their soft stone construction. Inside the Michi-no-Eki in Biei, there is a cafeteria where you can purchase food tickets from vending machines. I had an iced coffee, which was easy to drink without any strong flavors.

When I arrived at the Michi-no-Eki in Biei Town via Furano, the parking lot was full, showing how popular it is. However, the crowd inside wasn't as bad as I expected. It seems that the parking lot was busy due to the use of surrounding facilities as well. I took a break with some iced coffee on this hot day. The coffee machine was a bit old, but the taste was refreshing and easy to drink. After quickly looking around the facility, I took a leisurely stroll around the area. The retro and stylish Biei Station, made of soft stone, caught my attention, and I ended up spending some time taking photos. Then, I walked to the "soba vending machine" that I was looking forward to, only to find out that it was out of order and under repair! It was disappointing, as always (tears).

In Biei, the popular soft serve ice cream is a must-try on weekends when the weather is hot. When you visit a place like this, you can't help but be curious about the soft serve ice cream. I ordered a mix of amaou (a type of strawberry) without the cone and vanilla. The combination of the slight acidity and sweetness of the amaou with the smooth milk flavor of the vanilla was delicious. I recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

First camping car trip in life. The local gourmet in Biei is "Biei Curry Udon," so I had no choice but to visit here as it was the only place where I could park my camping car and eat. It was a restaurant inside the "Michi-no-Eki Biei 'Oka no Kura'" near Biei Station, with a charming stone exterior. I purchased the "Biei Curry Udon (880 yen)" from the ticket machine. The chopstick bag says "New Local Gourmet, the first in the country." It took about 15 minutes to be called. It felt like it took too long. The curry udon is served in a dipping udon style, with the curry and udon served on separate plates. I'm sorry, but the taste is at the level of commercial udon and curry (actually, I think so). The udon plate had Biei pork? pumpkin, and shredded cabbage. I don't understand the necessity. It looks good, though. There was also milk on the tray. At first, I didn't know what it was, but this Biei milk is delicious. Overall, it was a bit disappointing Biei lunch. I hope they can do better.

This year, the situation with the new coronavirus has been serious since spring, but it seemed to be improving gradually by summer, and I was hoping that it would be safe to travel for tourism. Unfortunately, the situation has not been getting better recently. This makes me hesitant to go on a long-distance drive with my beloved car. So, I decided to check "Tabelog" based on my memories and records, thinking, "If I go to Hokkaido again, I want to eat this and that!" I enjoyed the Blue Pond and headed to the center of Biei. I decided to have lunch at Michi-no-Eki Biei Hill no Kura. They have a dining area with a signature menu item called "Curry Udon." My wife ordered the Biei Curry Udon, and I ordered the Sausage Curry. The Curry Udon is served with noodles on top, similar to zaru udon, and you dip it in curry in a separate bowl instead of broth. The chopstick sleeve had "New Local Gourmet" printed on it, as the Biei Curry Udon is the first of its kind nationwide. The Sausage Curry was delicious, with sausages seasoned with herbs and spices. Although it is called a "Michi-no-Eki" (roadside station), it is conveniently located right next to JR Biei Station, with a hotel attached, making it convenient for tourists using the railway. It is in the city, so the parking lot may be a bit narrow, being in Hokkaido.
