Sanmanma is one of the specialties in Kushiro. It is located in a corner of the shopping center. It seems like a place to stop by during breaks in sightseeing. They come in bite-sized pieces, four in total. Perfect for a quick snack. The flavor is rich and satisfying. Thank you for the meal! ◎

After enjoying seafood dishes at the Kushiro Fisherman's Wharf MOO food stalls, we headed to "Torimasa" for yakitori. Here, you can try a dish called "sanmanma", which is grilled sanma fish on rice cooked over charcoal. It's delicious with its rich flavor. The octopus tempura is also flavorful. We also tried some yakitori before leaving the food stalls. The sanmanma was the best.

Visit date: June 24, 2020 On this day, my friend and I visited the food stalls at MOO Port. We have struggled with this system in the past and left without trying anything a few times, but we decided to give it another shot today since it seemed less crowded. When we arrived, it was almost empty except for a few customers at the Bird Government MOO store. We decided to order the Chicken Wing Gyoza for 510 yen. The Chicken Wing Gyoza was plump and filled with flavor of chives. It lacked seasoning, so we dipped it in sauce which was the same as the gyoza sauce. Personally, I found it a bit lacking in taste because the chicken wing and sauce didn't mix well. We only ordered one dish, which made me feel a bit hesitant, but we decided to move on to the next store. Thank you for the meal.

There is a main store in Suehiro, but it's always crowded and hard to get in, so I tried coming to the MOO branch. The appetizer is namako mushrooms. I ordered chicken skewers, tsukune (meatballs), heart, edamame, and grilled whole saury. I realized after ordering the chicken skewers that they are made of breast meat. However, the chicken skewers made of juicy breast meat are delicious. This MOO branch also accepts orders from other locations, so when they receive a lot of orders, the brother working alone seems to be overwhelmed. It's a good place to have a quick drink without staying too long.

I arrived in Kushiro after leaving Sapporo around 3 pm, so it was past 8 pm when I arrived. The next morning, I will just stop by a client's place before heading back, so tonight is all about "all-you-can-drink?" I will visit MOO... Even though it's the weekend, there are not many people near the escalator, and I feel unsure if the upstairs stores are open. However, a tired middle-aged man like me, who is exhausted from work, clumsily makes his way up to the second floor. The second floor is lined with several shops like a food stall village, but the partitions between each shop are not clear, making it hard to find a comfortable seat at the counter of each shop... Especially when alone, I feel that way. In fact, I have visited a few times in the past to check it out, but this is my first time using it. I sit at the counter of "Torimasa," where there are relatively few customers... The previous customers were a couple of two, and there is one male chef in his 30s to 40s. First, I order a "BEER @500," and within seconds, a cold beer arrives. I drove over 300 km from Sapporo, so this cold beer is much appreciated. Let's carefully consider the order♪ I order the "Harusame, wood ear mushroom, and other Chinese-style mixed vegetables" (probably @200) and chicken skewers @110 with breast meat and thigh meat @160... In between, there are green onions, and the grilling is just right, making the juicy pork skewers @250 delicious. Is it raw meat? The saltiness is good, and the large meat chunks have a satisfying chewy texture, making it tasty. I order a second round of "Ponshu @500" served cold... Without asking about the brand, it was probably "Hokkaido no Katsu." This sake suits the air of Eastern Hokkaido, and it tastes better when drunk in this area. Served in a slightly unusual large cup (see photo), it seems like a lot? It looks like a good deal. The bill is about 1,600 yen... The cost performance and taste are not bad. I didn't know that this restaurant owns the trademark "Sanmanma," I've seen a few other places using that name, but if you make it without permission and use that name, you'll get in trouble~ lol Thank you for the meal. * From the fourth seat from the end on the left side facing the shop, you can see the TV.

My wife says she will be late on Saturday and Sunday too. It's lonely to drink alone at home on weekends. I decided to leave Abashiri and explore the world of Ozaki Yutaka. I rode my bike all the way to Kushiro, even though it's a Cub, my body is completely cold now. I wrote down the names of the places I wanted to visit, but ended up going to a different place first out of curiosity. The second place was MOO. It's quite empty for a Saturday, not many customers around. I ordered a beer and got pickled vegetables as a side dish. I'm not a fan, but I ate it anyway. I asked about the difference between "thigh" and "breast" skewers and ordered the thigh, but they said they were out of it. I ended up ordering "chicken cartilage" and "silver skin (gizzard skin)" instead. The gizzard skin was salty, and the chicken cartilage was decent for 220 yen. The owner was managing everything alone, and the previous customers were talking about a Jimny car. I didn't care about the conversation. Thank you for giving me a reason to move on to the next place. Until June: Ramen - 84 bowls, Soba - 27 bowls, Ice cream - 38 items. I was actually ranked 2nd in the Hokkaido ramen rankings until 2 months ago. Now there's only an annual ranking, and I'm still 2nd. The 1st place has changed to Tori Log. I don't think I'll be able to catch up. The 4th place is Papa, 5th is Obatan, 8th is Zaby, and 10th is Satochina.

I ordered yakitori at Torimasa-san! But on the wall it said "sanmanma"??? During the day, I bought sanma at the first floor's Uomasa-san, ate it cold at the hotel, but I found out I could get a warm one here (>_<) I wanted to eat something warm! Regaining composure, I ordered the yakitori! Both the ones with yuzu pepper and the regular ones were juicy and delicious!

It seems that each family member is running their own shop, but each shop has different suppliers. The food stall village of "moo" is very quiet on weekdays, so you can easily choose where to eat. I went there wanting to eat yakitori, but it was just average yakitori... I wasn't sure about it, so I left quickly.

I ended up visiting the second-floor food stall village at Fisherman's Wharf Mu for several days in a row. I started by ordering the Sanmanma, which is made by skewering rice and saury, grilling them carefully with eel sauce. The saury is sandwiched between the rice and shiso leaves, so there is no fishy smell at all, and it is very delicious when eaten hot. The yakitori can be ordered starting from 2 skewers, with options like Ponpochi and Yuzu Pepper Chicken, each costing 220 yen per skewer. They go perfectly with cold beer.

For lunch, I ate "sanmanma" at Torimasa in Fisherman's Wharf. It's a dish where the headless sanma is opened up, bones removed, tied with rice, and then grilled. I was worried it might smell fishy, but I tried it anyway. When I cut the string with scissors, I realized I had to cut the rice and sanma with scissors too! It's a bit tricky to cut the rice and sanma with scissors because of the fibers, so maybe using a knife would be better. But when I took a bite, I was pleasantly surprised. The sanma had a slightly sweet and savory marinade that made it delicious. The okra between the rice and sanma helped eliminate any fishy taste. The carefully grilled skin was also tasty. It was quite a well-thought-out dish.

I had eaten grilled saury at Uozushi yesterday, but I had no memory of it at all, so I went to Kushiro Fisherman's MOO to buy it again. It cost 850 yen per piece. After buying the meal ticket, they packed the grilled fish directly from the net for me. I brought it home, which took about 8 hours. When I got home, I ate it right away. The rice part was also grilled, giving it a texture similar to grilled rice balls. The sweet and savory soy sauce seasoning was delicious on its own, but it was also tasty with a little sweet soy sauce. This time, I savored it properly. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

I tried the "sanmanma" at the Kushiro Port Festival, which I had always wanted to eat. It is rice with seasoned grilled saury wrapped around it. The fish was fairly tasty as it was grilled over charcoal, but the seasoning was similar to canned saury. The rice was chewy, maybe it had sticky rice in it? Considering the price, I don't feel like eating it again at that price.
