Last time it was freezing cold, this time it was Otaru under the summer sky. Visiting without an appointment was a mistake. On this day and the next day, there was a concert by Chiharu Matsuyama in Sapporo, and the number of customers was like a pilgrimage. We enjoyed the first set in a tatami room. The dishes during this season are amazing! Especially the fresh sea urchin from Otaru! It wasn't frozen, and it wasn't soaked in alum or saltwater. I was impressed by how fresh it was. After the counter became available, we added more sea urchin and salmon, and also enjoyed a parent and child sushi of herring and shad roe, fatty tuna, and another type of salmon that was served. On the last day in Hokkaido, I left feeling very satisfied. Otaru sea urchin is available from the end of June until around the Bon Festival in August, so if you visit Hokkaido during that time, be sure to stop by Otaru.

There is a sushi restaurant located about 7-8 minutes walk from Otaru Station towards the canal. This restaurant, named by Chiharu Matsuyama, was packed with customers on the day we visited, possibly due to Matsuyama's concert in Sapporo. We ordered the lunch sushi set, which was amazingly voluminous with about 14 pieces. The sushi rice was relatively large with red vinegar, but it was delicious. After finishing our lunch, my companion, who has known the chef for over 20 years, moved to the counter for more sushi. We enjoyed chatting with the chef while indulging in more sushi, including Otaru uni, Shakotan tuna, parent and child tuna, salmon, and even the tail fin part of the salmon. Despite feeling full, the sushi was too delicious to resist. I will definitely visit again when I come to Otaru! Thank you for the wonderful meal.

This restaurant, which was named by Chiharu Matsuyama, is where I first ate sushi in Hokkaido when I was 19 years old, and it is also the place where I fell in love with Hokkaido. This restaurant has had a significant impact on my life, as without it, I wouldn't be working in the travel industry or have obtained my certification as a Hokkaido Food Master. During this trip to Hokkaido, I also visited Otaru for the first time in three years. I underestimated Otaru in February, as it was snowing heavily all day. I quickly sought refuge in the restaurant, which is located right by the canal. The warm tea was comforting. The chef entertained us with his usual lively conversations, and the tourists seemed to relax as they enjoyed their meal. I had a variety of sushi, including Hokkaido scallop, octopus, button shrimp, amberjack, salmon, fatty tuna, lean tuna, scallop, snow crab, salmon roe, sea urchin, flying fish roe, and raw octopus. I left feeling satisfied and full.

At first glance, the head chef looks like a stern sushi master! But he is actually a very friendly person. I had a great time with the head chef, enjoying delicious sake and sushi. He seems to like it when customers have a good time, as he mentioned wanting to post photos on Facebook. I also posted a picture. It was a wonderful memory. Of course, the sushi and sake are of high quality, so they are delicious.

"Senchun Sushi" is a restaurant located near the Otaru Canal, named after Matsuyama Chiharu. I ordered the 12-piece set instead of a la carte. It may be a bit lacking for men, but my female friend couldn't finish her meal. The chef is friendly and talkative, sharing interesting stories with customers. As the conversation flowed, he brought out herring and cod sushi as a complimentary treat, which was a pleasant surprise for the men who felt the portion was a bit small. The taste was delicious, much better than another restaurant I visited the day before. If you want to enjoy your meal and drinks slowly, just let the chef know, as he won't talk your ear off unnecessarily. The staff were also very polite and attentive. I visited twice and each time I was impressed by the wide variety of drinks available. I look forward to coming back to "Senchun Sushi" the next time I visit Otaru. When I stopped by Otaru and felt like having sushi, I happened to visit this restaurant. There were only two seats available at the counter, so I was able to sit down. The rest seemed to be reserved. The master behind the counter looked a bit intimidating, and I ordered the recommended sushi assortment. After a brief silence, the master who was making sushi suddenly said, "Feel free to take a picture." I was surprised by his character! But from then on, we had a fun interaction throughout the meal, following the master's lead. He was a very lively and entertaining master. Finally, the sushi was delicious, of course. The vinegared rice used red vinegar, giving the rice a red color. This vinegared rice paired well with the toppings. As expected of Otaru, the toppings were all excellent! One sushi that I had never tried before was herring. I had only ever had herring cooked in a sweet and salty sauce, so trying it raw was surprisingly flavorful and delicious! I noticed halfway through that the restaurant had a connection to the very famous person from Hokkaido, Chiharu Matsuyama. The restaurant was called "Chiharu Sushi," and now that I think about it, the name makes sense! It was a great experience to stumble upon such a memorable restaurant.

Hello♪ During Golden Week, I spontaneously decided to visit Hokkaido♪ I wanted to stop by a standing-style sushi restaurant inside Chitose Airport, but since I had children with me and there was a long line, I headed straight to Otaru instead! We enjoyed the aquarium and when I searched on Tabelog, I found Chiharu Sushi♪ It was named by singer Chiharu Matsuyama♪ We started with a toast with beer as usual♪ We ordered some appetizers and enjoyed the sushi♪ Thank you for the meal.

I took a late breakfast at Takinami Shokudo in Otaru during my trip to Hokkaido. Feeling a bit hungry while sightseeing, I decided to search for sushi, and found Chiharu Sushi. I trusted in Chiharu-san and entered the restaurant. The atmosphere was great, and I was excited. I ordered some sushi and took a bite. It was delicious. I definitely want to stay in Otaru next time and enjoy seafood from morning onwards.

Near the hotel where I was staying, there was this shop. I had been to a shop with the same name in Sapporo before, and I had high expectations because of the sense of value there. I was satisfied with the sense of value here as well. I didn't have much time, so I had the chef's choice sushi and two glasses of draft beer. The colorful gunkan sushi caught my eye. It was delicious. It was early evening after New Year's, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed. I enjoyed listening to the owner's stories while eating sushi. His slightly edgy stories were entertaining. I don't mind that kind of thing. I would like to visit again slowly next time, starting with some appetizers.

I also visited "Chiharu Sushi," where singer Chiharu Matsuyama serves as the chairman. The sushi here is big and luxurious! There are shrimp miso, salmon roe, sea urchin, fatty tuna, salmon, crab, scallops, and prawns, among others. The sushi at this restaurant has a sharp vinegar flavor in the rice, making it truly sushi-like sushi. In Hokkaido, sushi is both affordable and delicious everywhere. The lunch course was 3240 yen, but the toppings were so luxurious. Sushi is best enjoyed at the counter. I sat up straight a little nervously, enjoying conversations with the staff, and savoring the chef's "individuality" in the freshly made sushi. The toppings were carefully prepared, and the rice melts in your mouth. It's a refined experience for adults. The chef was quite funny, so I didn't feel nervous at all while enjoying the sushi.

You should definitely try the sushi at Otaru Sushi. It is delicious with large, voluminous shari rice. The head chef is a nice person and even gave us some herring as a service. It costs around 3500 yen.

The sushi made by the master was very delicious. The egg roll had a strong dashi flavor and was amazing. The seafood chawanmushi was also great. Whenever I go to Otaru, I always make sure to visit this place.
