On September 17, 2023 (Sunday), I had lunch at a Chinese restaurant called "Takahashi" in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It had been 4 years since my last visit. The restaurant is located at 19-1-1 Kita 8-jo Nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido.
The restaurant's contact number is not disclosed, and they do not have fixed operating hours. They also do not have regular closing days. There is a parking lot available with space for 3 cars next to the restaurant.
Overall, the atmosphere around the restaurant in the vicinity of Nishi 20-chome in Sapporo seems quite nice. The food was delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the ramen and fried rice. I recommend this place for ramen lovers like me.

Chinatown Takahashi @ Ankake Yakisoba ¥850
I had some time before the theoretical course for obtaining a regular motorcycle license, so I left the driving school for lunch. It's such a hassle to return the training logbook every time, you know (´ε`;). When I arrived at the intended restaurant, the building itself was under renovation or something? There were no signs of it being open with scaffolding on the exterior... So, I decided to visit this place nearby for the first time instead! It was close to 2:00 PM, and I had the place to myself with no other customers. I pondered for a moment and ordered the "Ankake Yakisoba" Bang! The noodles were well-cooked with plenty of toppings and a separate serving of thick sauce. The sauce had just the right amount of saltiness and thickness (*^^)v. However, the noodles were extremely firm. I had to struggle a bit to chew through them, but eventually, they softened up towards the end. I was intrigued by their straightforward menu, and I would like to try their Mapo Tofu and Shoyu Ramen next time. Thank you for the meal! \(^o^)/ #Chinatown Takahashi #Ankake Yakisoba #Ankake Club #AKB #Noodle Crunchy #Bin Ramen 2023

Finally managed to come. Chuka Takahashi. Huh? Something feels off from the appearance. The menu that was pasted everywhere is now nowhere to be seen. Upon entering, there was only one customer. No one else in sight. The menu was limited, and various items were left abandoned on the raised seating area. Although the dish I wanted to eat was no longer available, I ordered the "Ankake Yakisoba" and the "Mapo Tofu Set Meal." Perhaps due to being short-staffed, I waited for over 20 minutes for the food to arrive. It wasn't clear if the service was meticulous or laid-back, as there was no sense of urgency. The Ankake Yakisoba that arrived had crispy noodles and the sauce was a bit salty but still tasty. It was a shame that there was no vinegar provided. The Mapo Tofu Set Meal, although not spicy, was said to be delicious. Hmm, everything is an experience, isn't it? As for revisiting... it's up in the air.

The restaurant was still in the process of opening, as the curtain was still down when I entered. I ordered the sweet and sour pork set meal. The dish had a lot of vegetables and less meat. The flavor was slightly strong, but satisfying. The soup was also delicious. The only downside was that the rice was a bit mushy.

Located near the Sapporo Central Wholesale Market in the Kita Maruyama area, this restaurant has a few parking spaces on the side of the building. I was drawn to the delicious-looking fried rice in a photo I saw, so I decided to visit for lunch. The interior has a retro Showa-era atmosphere with counter seats and raised tatami seating. The restaurant is run by a male owner alone. The menu isn't extensive, featuring ramen, fried rice, and a few Chinese set meals. I ordered the "fried rice (700 yen)" I had my eye on. Since I arrived for a late lunch and there were no other customers, my order was ready in about 6 minutes. The fried rice was a perfect balance of fluffy and moist, with a light salt and pepper flavor that was easy to eat, although the portion was a bit small for me. I'm curious about the mapo tofu noodles, so I'd like to try them if I have the chance.

Visited for the first time in October 2020, the 32nd restaurant of the year, "Holy Papa," made it onto my list. As a big fan of "Chuka" (Chinese food), if a restaurant proudly labels itself as "Chuka," then I must pay a visit. Although another Chinese restaurant opened nearby, I chose to stick to my original plan and visit this place. The interior of the restaurant had a rather cheap design, with only one male staff member, presumably the owner, handling everything. Despite the back and forth between the kitchen and the dining area, there were few customers, so there were no issues.
I ordered the "Fried Rice" for 700 yen, opting for the free large portion. However, the large portion was not as big as I had expected. The flavor was based on salt and pepper, with a mild seasoning that I appreciated, but it was a bit monotonous and I started to get bored of it. The dish lacked any distinctive features and felt a bit bland.
Next, I tried the "Mapo Tofu Set Meal" for 800 yen. It had a moderate level of spiciness, but lacked depth of flavor, also lacking any distinctive features. Overall, I didn't feel the skill of a "Chinese cuisine artisan" in this restaurant.
The term "Chuka" in Japanese refers to Chinese cuisine, but "Machichuka" (town Chinese food) is a step below that, catering more to the general public. Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't quite match my idea of a "Machichuka" place that I enjoy.

The restaurant environment has dramatically improved. It has become non-smoking and the air is clean due to good ventilation, allowing for a comfortable stay. The energetic and cheerful owner of the Chinese restaurant Takahashi left a good impression. I was torn between fried rice and sweet and sour pork set, but ended up choosing the fried rice. It was a generous portion of fried rice served with egg drop soup. The distinct flavors of the fried rice gradually grew on me as I ate. The fried rice had a basic yet delicious taste, with the rice perfectly separated and shiny. It's the kind of dish that you crave from time to time. It had been a while since I last had fried rice as the main dish, probably since I last visited En Garu, a fried rice restaurant in Nishi Ward Yamate, exactly a year ago in September. Since En Garu's fried rice was not available, I might just have to come back to Takahashi for my fried rice fix. Also, as a side note, I saw a customer enjoying the mapo tofu set nearby, and it looked so appetizing that I suddenly felt the urge to have it after my meal.

During a weekend stroll on a sunny day, with most days spent at home, I stumbled upon a restaurant called "Town Chinese" that caught my eye. With only one other customer present, I sat at the counter and ordered the sweet and sour pork. The dish arrived promptly, with a generous portion of cabbage and a flavorful sauce. The texture of the cabbage was just right, and the bean sprout and glass noodle namul on the side provided a nice contrast. However, the rice was a bit too firm for my liking, lacking the usual sweetness. Perhaps the lack of bustling activity in the restaurant due to the current situation affected the overall experience. Nonetheless, it was a satisfying meal.

Social distancing and ventilation were strict at the town Chinese restaurant Takahashi that I was curious about. I decided to try the ankake yakisoba with great interest. However, the poor air quality while waiting and eating was due to the high concentration of chemicals, which actually affected me even after leaving the restaurant. The ankake yakisoba looked delicious with its crispy noodles. The presentation had a rushed feeling, but the consistency of the sauce and ingredients seemed basic. However, there were no shrimp in it, and the texture and taste were not satisfying. There are various aspects that need improvement, including the overall environment of the restaurant. I have many points for improvement in mind, so I'll keep it short to avoid potential influence from writing a long text...

On a certain weekday, I passed by this Chinese restaurant that I had tried to visit multiple times before, but it was always closed. To my surprise, it was open this time, so I decided to go in. It is located in Chuo-ku, Kitaku 8-jo Nishi 19-chome. The restaurant has a small parking lot with space for about 3 cars. Inside, there are 5 counter seats and 2 small tables. The atmosphere seemed to be the same as when it was a pub before. The background music was a daytime TV show. I ordered the "Mapo Tofu Set Meal (800 yen)" from the menu, which caught my attention. The dish had a rich color and a strong miso flavor, with a good balance of sweetness and spiciness. The texture was moderate, and I added some crunchy Sichuan pepper for extra flavor. The dish included minced meat and square-cut silky tofu. There was also a side dish of bean sprouts and glass noodles in sesame oil, a chicken broth egg soup, and hot rice served in a bowl. Overall, the food was good, and the owner seemed to be putting in a lot of effort. However, the fact that the restaurant has irregular opening hours is a bit risky for me, so I might not be able to visit again if it's closed. Thank you for the meal.

"Soba Matsudai" for soba noodles, then "Machichuka Takahashi" for a change. I had been wanting to visit this place since it opened in January 2019, but timing never seemed right as they were closed on those occasions. It used to be an izakaya, but not much has changed layout-wise with a counter, raised seating area with 3 tables, and a new monitor on the wall. The owner runs the place alone but provides friendly and attentive service. The menu offers fried rice, set meals, and a note saying that rice can be served in larger portions for free. I was initially thinking of getting ramen, but already full from the soba noodles, I ordered "Gyoza (6 pieces) for 400 yen" and a "Draft beer for 300 yen." The beer arrived first in a glass, which was surprising for the low price. The frozen gyoza arrived after about 8 minutes, with a thick and chewy skin filled with meaty ingredients that had a slightly off-putting smell. I prefer simple gyoza with a light vinegar soy sauce dip. I am curious about their soy sauce ramen, so I might revisit in the future. Thank you for the meal.

On August 22, 2019 (Thursday), I had the Shoyu Ramen + Small Fried Rice Set at Chukas Takahashi. It seemed tough for the staff to handle everything alone. Next time, I will try the set meal. Nice to meet you again! So, just casually chatting (since it won't count anyway). But I think the restaurant might have a problem with this no-count revisit, haha. I ordered the light soy sauce ramen for 700 yen and added a small fried rice set for a total of 950 yen. And I even changed the small fried rice to small shrimp fried rice, making it 1050 yen in total. Now, the soy sauce ramen was light and easy to eat. The noodles and soy sauce seemed slightly different this time, but it was still delicious as it is. However, I also like spicy food, so I added some chili oil to the soy sauce ramen. It gave it a bit of a kick and made it even more delicious. I also sprinkled some shichimi pepper on top, and the spiciness increased, making it even more delicious. I'm such a demanding customer, haha. The small shrimp fried rice set was delicious too, with the rice being fluffy and tasty. Even without shrimp, it would still be delicious. But eating it with the shrimp made it even tastier. I'm thinking of trying to make the fried rice spicy next time.

Located at North 8 West 19, Kuoen District, this Chinese restaurant caught the attention of me and my colleague, so we decided to check it out. It was closed last time we tried to visit, so this time we made sure it was open. When we arrived, there was one customer already there and four more came in after us. It seemed to be quite busy during lunchtime. The owner mentioned that they operate alone and are willing to accommodate any requests. I ordered the large portion of fried rice for 700 yen, and the extra portion was free. It was served in a bowl, and the taste was a bit light and oily. The portion size was generous, which was satisfying. The egg soup in the miso soup bowl was a nice touch. Despite the simple presentation, I think it suits the style of a local Chinese eatery. Mixing in the pickled ginger helped enhance the flavor. Overall, it was reasonably tasty. Adding some chili oil for extra flavor made it even better. I plan to visit again for dinner next time. Thank you for the meal!

My wife and eldest son are visiting Obihiro, so there's no dinner waiting for me at home. I decided to go to "Chukasoba Takahashi" for dinner. I thought it was just an act, but Mr. Takahashi really kissed me. Is he serious? Just kidding! (laughs) There was one other customer at the counter when I arrived. I sat at the counter as well, leaving some space as is the Japanese custom. They also have raised tatami seating available. I ordered the Ankake Yakisoba for 850 yen. The savory sauce had a refined taste, and the noodles were lightly fried. Personally, I prefer them a bit more crispy, but the way they were cooked matched well with the sauce. The dish included pork, shrimp, squid, Chinese cabbage, carrots, bamboo shoots, and quail eggs. I'm not a fan of quail eggs, so I left them aside. The taste was quite good, but I wonder if this place gets many customers around here. There's a tire shop across the street, so maybe it gets busy during tire change season...

I tried the miso ramen. It was not cheap at 700 yen, but also not expensive. Surprisingly, it was the most delicious item I tried. I also ordered the shoyu ramen, which looked like salt ramen but was actually made with white soy sauce. It was saltier than expected with a sweet aftertaste. The mapo tofu was good with just the right amount of spiciness, but I wished it came with rice. Overall, it was a good value, but the taste was comparable to Marumiya instant mapo tofu.

This is my third visit to this restaurant haha. Since it's in the neighborhood, I wanted to know more about it. The Twice-Cooked Pork is 800 yen and has a slightly spicy sweet and savory flavor. The cabbage is cooked just right. However, I wish there was a bit more pork, maybe another slice of pork belly would be nice. Overall, I feel like the portion size is a bit small for the price of 800 yen. For customers who just want a beer and this dish, it might be enough, but for those who want to support the restaurant, it might be a bit lacking haha. The Stir-Fried Leek and Liver is 800 yen, and the bean sprouts could be a bit more crisp. There's plenty of liver, which is nice, but the seasoning is just average. Also, I got the Chinese-style Fried Chicken for takeout at 900 yen. The thinly seasoned fried chicken with a sweet and savory sauce is delicious. The sauce complements the fried chicken well. The next day, I had the Sweet and Sour Pork Set for 900 yen. It comes with bamboo shoots, carrots, onions, and pork. The carrots were a bit hard haha. I prefer a richer taste. The soup was tasty though! I'm interested in trying the soy sauce ramen next time. Overall, I feel like the flavors of the dishes here are a bit light. But since I was able to share my feedback with the owner, I'm looking forward to seeing if they can cater to my preferences next time. Despite sounding a bit self-important, I think it's important to strive for making delicious food even more delicious. Becoming a regular at a restaurant doesn't happen after just one or two visits, so if I can support a restaurant and see it grow, I would be happy. Next time, I'll try the ramen section.

Due to a computer malfunction caused by a virus, the migration process to a new desktop computer has been completed. It took longer than expected due to it being my first time using Windows 10 and also because of health reasons. I am now back to liking and commenting. Thank you for your understanding. [January 2019] "Machichuka Takahashi" opened in the Sapporo Chuo Ward Kuwanon area. Originally scheduled for January 15th, the opening was delayed to January 27th. A pre-opening was held on January 26th at 5 pm, followed by the grand opening on January 27th at 5 pm. I visited for dinner with my usual companion. The restaurant is located near Kuwanon Park in Sapporo Chuo Ward. For the exact location, please check on Tabelog. The restaurant is a renovated former izakaya with parking space for three cars. The operating hours are planned from 11 am to 9 pm, with the regular holiday yet to be decided. On the opening day, it opens from 5 pm. Inside, there are counter seats and table seats. There was one customer before us, and many customers arrived after us. We sat at the counter seats and ordered the "Ankake Yakisoba" and "Shrimp in Chili Sauce" from the menu. The dishes arrived after a 10-minute wait. ■ Ankake Yakisoba The noodles were slightly firm, medium-thick, and slightly curly with a chewy texture, different from the typical Sapporo noodles. The base flavor was well-balanced in saltiness, with a good taste. The yakisoba was cooked with a moderate amount of oil and had a nice charred surface. The sauce was strong. Ingredients included pork, cabbage, wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts, green onions, shrimp, squid, and bamboo shoots. Price: 850 yen (tax included) ■ Shrimp in Chili Sauce Large, plump shrimp with a total of 17 pieces. It had a delicious Chinese flavor with watercress on the side. Regular price: 1000 yen (tax included) The young owner had trained in Yokohama Chinatown and had met at another restaurant in Sapporo before. It is an authentic and delicious Chinese-style restaurant. Gyoza was served as a complimentary gift for the opening celebration. I plan to try the lunch set next time. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On the night of the pre-opening on 11/27, the first 50 customers will receive 5 free gyoza! However, even though there are only about 16 seats, it will be practically around 30 people haha. Sitting at the counter in the back, I noticed a big shot dining with their usual companion. Due to a missing chef, the place is being run by one person. The big guy handling the front is quite sensitive (like a pro wrestler), so all dishes have a 30-minute wait time. If you ask for a refill, they might not make it in time for your next appointment, so please give me a cola!! In the end, I also had gyoza for 200 yen. The gyoza was quite delicious. I will summarize my next visit. On 1/28, I visited again for lunch the day after. Once again, due to one person handling the cooking, only the Five Ingredient Ankake Noodles for 850 yen were offered for 500 yen. Some customers were disappointed when they found out (゚д゚lll) haha. Rice was also served as a side. The sauce had lots of vegetables and seafood, but it was too lightly seasoned, making the noodles taste slightly sweet due to the cabbage. Adding plenty of chili oil made it tasty! I accidentally added vinegar as if it were yakisoba haha. It was still delicious! I took out some fried rice during a lull in customers (*^^)v. When I ate it at home, it was a bit bland. I'll have to give some guidance to make it more to my liking haha. Hopefully, by the time everyone else tries it, it will be delicious! Enjoy!

I found a Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I had fried rice and gyoza. The food was average, nothing special, and the staff didn't interfere much. There were some old manga books placed around, which made the atmosphere cozy. It's a hidden gem with not many customers, and I hope it doesn't become too popular.
