This is a hotel I stayed at during my trip to Hokkaido. It's not related to a certain Akutagawa Prize-winning work, but I booked it because I found the same title as a novel I read, so in a way, this visit isn't completely unrelated, right? It's less than a 15-minute walk from Date Monbetsu Station. You pass by a Lawson next to AEON, across the national highway. It seems like a decent business here. The bed was comfortable despite showing some signs of age. If it's under 5000 yen, I'm happy. Moving on, breakfast offered a choice between Japanese and Western options, and I chose Japanese. Around 8 o'clock, I headed to the dining area on the first floor, where there were no other guests. Most were probably already checked out and done with breakfast. I sat at a table alone and had a Japanese breakfast. Grilled fish, rolled omelette, dried radish, spinach with soy sauce, natto, raw egg, nameko mushrooms, pickled plums, pickled radish, seaweed, rice, miso soup. Plus, yogurt. While it didn't have a local feel, there were a good variety of items, making it quite a healthy meal. Overall, the flavors were light on salt and not overly sweet, which I liked. The fish was small but well-cooked, and the rice was delicious. The plum-like thing was more like a "pickled plum" with a balanced taste of sweetness and juiciness. After reading "Hotel Royal," I was hoping for a bit more run-down atmosphere. Anyway, the title is from another work by Shino Sakuragi. In any case, I enjoyed a decent breakfast at a decent hotel. Let's continue to enjoy the journey today as well.
