mamegoma
Rarely had a lunch break in Morokuchi. After leaving the station a little past lunchtime, I got into my car. I had to decide whether to go straight home or have lunch nearby. Intrigued by the name "Kamogama Udon", I decided to have lunch at this restaurant! The parking lot had space for 6 cars behind the store, and luckily there was space available, probably because it was past lunchtime. The lunch set menu was around a thousand yen, offering good value. Although the tempura chicken rice bowl looked delicious, I stuck to my initial choice and ordered the Kamogama Udon set. The interior of the restaurant, while not new, was clean. There was only seating at the counter for one person, with other tables available and seating on the second floor, making it surprisingly spacious. I waited for about 10 minutes before my food arrived. I was asked, "Do you know how to eat this?" and when I mentioned it was my first time, I was instructed to put the condiments and onsen egg into the broth to eat, and to pour the remaining broth into the sauce when finished. The set included Kamogama Udon, broth with duck, rice with toppings, and pickles. The condiments included an onsen egg, green onions, ginger, and thinly sliced deep-fried burdock. I started by eating without adding condiments. The broth, infused with the flavor of duck, contained watercress. The udon noodles were not as firm as Sanuki udon, but rather closer to the old-fashioned udon of Osaka. The gentle kamogama was delicious. The broth was not too strong, and I found it just right when dipping the noodles. Adding the condiments, the ginger provided a nice touch, and the deep-fried burdock added a change in texture. The duck had no unpleasant smell and was delicious. Personally, I prefer not to add the onsen egg to the broth, so I ate it separately. The rice with toppings had finely chopped ingredients and a mild flavor. Carrots, burdock, simple yet tasty. Finally, I poured the remaining broth into the sauce. It was like soba soup? It's a fun bonus. It doesn't have the flavor of soba soup, so it's a nice extra treat. I later thought it might be a good idea to add the onsen egg at this point. The amount of duck was sufficient, and it felt like a good deal. I would like to visit again if I'm nearby.
