Located just a short walk from Tsukishima Station, "PASTA tesio" is a pasta specialty restaurant that opened in September and is open only on Sundays. It is situated one minute from Tsukishima Station, facing the Monjayaki Street, on the first floor of a tower apartment building, operating in the space of "Suan Hanare," which is normally an izakaya. The interior, featuring a counter, tables, and private rooms, has a traditional Japanese ambiance and is run by three staff members, including a female chef, who ensure attentive service.
The main menu features the following items:
- Tesio Tuna Kimchi Cream: 1,350 yen
- Shrimp and Avocado Genovese: 1,250 yen
- Carbonara: 1,250 yen
- Bacon and Mushroom Peperoncino: 1,200 yen
- Pasta of the Day: 1,350 yen
You can also add drinks, wine, and a mini salad. There are seven varieties of side dishes that pair well with sparkling wine and other wines. Here’s what I tried:
- Pasta of the Day: 1,350 yen
- Octopus and Anchovy Lemon Cream
- Garlic Toast (2 pieces): 300 yen
As the pleasant aroma of frying pasta wafted through the air, it stimulated my appetite. After about 12 minutes, my dish was served. In the white bowl, the deep yellow pasta was topped with octopus and herbs. The first bite revealed a smooth creamy texture complemented by a hint of acidity and citrus aroma. The pasta had a firm texture yet felt fresh and complemented the cream beautifully. The octopus was exceptionally tender, delivering a delightful bounce that highlighted the rich flavor of the sauce. The slight saltiness of the anchovy and the acidity of the lemon melded beautifully, enhancing the underlying deliciousness of garlic.
The unique flavors and accents offered a delightful experience, showcasing a changing dish that offers something different each week. The garlic toast was lighter than expected, and with each bite, the rich, garlicky flavor became more pronounced. The accompanying soup had a gentle flavor that didn’t overpower the pasta.
The chef's recommended signature dish is the "Tesio Tuna Kimchi Cream," which promises to be well-balanced and potentially addictive. Additionally, the wine set is likely to enhance the enjoyment of the pasta. The counter area felt like a gathering place for local regulars, so being seated at a table alone slightly diminished the atmosphere.
Despite being a Sunday-only venture, the "Pasta of the Day" changes weekly, making me curious about the upcoming menu items. If you’re in Tsukishima, how about enjoying a delicious pasta lunch on a Sunday afternoon?
