I visited a shop on a cold snowy evening in the north, where the harsh snow chilled my cheeks. People hurried back home with white breath. Tired and hungry, those seeking comfort rushed into the shop. "Katsuya" is a shop I usually frequent. However, their limited menu items are often too adventurous for me to keep up with. This time, they had a special menu item called "Beef Cutlet and Beef Yakiniku Bowl." I couldn't resist ordering it, even though I have been disappointed by their special items in the past.
Today's order:
- Beef Cutlet and Beef Yakiniku Bowl: 759 yen (tax included)
There is also a set menu option where the main dish and rice are served separately for an additional 100 yen.
The shop was quite busy, with regular customers enjoying their usual pork soup set meals or pork cutlet bowls. I was curious about the beef cutlet. While there are beef cutlet specialty shops in Hokkaido, they are not very common, so I was interested to see how Katsuya, known for their tonkatsu, would prepare it.
The bowl arrived in about 7 minutes. The beef cutlets were not as big as I had expected, about 50-60g each, cut into three pieces. The beef cutlet turned out to be thin and tough, not the type made from steak meat. It seemed like they folded thin, tough meat to make it about 1cm thick. The beef yakiniku, on the other hand, had a subtle beef aroma. However, the taste and value did not match up to beef specialty chains. The beef cutlet and beef yakiniku were meant to be enjoyed in two different ways, but in reality, they both tasted like the same sauce. The abundance of onions and cabbage on the side helped prevent heartburn, and I managed to finish the meal without any issues.
While ordering their regular items is safe, sometimes I feel the urge to try something new. The beef-themed promotion was interesting, but the end result was a bit monotonous. They mentioned a discount on popular and regular items for the next visit, so it seems like it will be crowded again. The bill came to 759 yen, but with a discount, it was reduced to 659 yen. Thank you for the meal.
