I had the daily set meal. The taste was as described in the review, with a mild home-cooked flavor. It was gentle and not lacking in flavor, and I enjoyed it. The set included rice, miso soup with clams, grilled fish and omelette, salad, a side dish of pickled vegetables, tempura, and pickles. The rice portion was quite generous even for a regular serving, and they offer extra-large portions as well. The only downside is that there is no parking, so it can be difficult to go by car.

Visit date 11th July 18, First day of camping at Nakafurano. Arrived in Furano and had lunch at Bachan-ya, recommended by my wife through a search. It was our first visit. Upon entering, the mother welcomed us from inside, and as there was only one other group of customers, it felt like returning to a family home. I ordered the Chinese rice bowl with plenty of Chinese cabbage, and my wife ordered the chef's special set meal. Shortly after, our food arrived - Chinese rice bowl, salad, sweet potato simmered in sugar, chijimi, pickles, and miso soup, all with a comforting home-cooked taste. The portions might be slightly small for men. The chef's special set meal my wife ordered included fish, squid, and other small dishes similar to those served with the Chinese rice bowl. As a dessert, we were served sweet melon as a service. Both meals were priced at 700 yen each, so I believe it offers good value for money. The atmosphere was more like a mother's home rather than a grandmother's home, making it a cozy place to dine.

Sodane Japan has been buzzing not only in Hokkaido but throughout Japan in February, which is about to end soon. I wonder if "sodane" is a Hokkaido dialect? I guess I'm a Hokkaido native. So, for today's lunch, I decided to go to "Baachan-ya"! This restaurant opened in the summer of 2017. I didn't have many opportunities to visit, but I happened to pass by at a good time, so I went in! The exterior looks like a regular house. I thought the atmosphere inside might be different, but when I entered, it felt like... a shop?... a house? It's like a living dining room. It's exactly like a residential house, following the concept (laughs). There are three tables, totaling about 12 seats. The seats are low chairs often used by grandmothers! I sat down, but the table is low and a bit awkward to use. I think it would be easier to eat sitting on the floor (laughs). I received the menu, which seems to change daily based on the date on the menu. Maybe there are some dishes that can't be made depending on the preparation. Since I didn't know what to order, I left it to the grandmothers. So, I got the chef's special set meal! The food was heartwarming and the dishes kept coming. They asked if the rice portion was okay, and I said normal! Thank you for considering my body shape! (laughs) The dishes that came out are as shown in the photo. Rice, miso soup with clams, grilled fish, side dish of potato croquettes, egg and vinegar sauce for pork cutlets, marinated smelt, salad, pickles x2 (obviously homemade! Overall, it has a gentle taste! The strong umami taste you get in restaurants is not there, but it really tastes like something your grandmother would make. With so many types of side dishes, it seems healthy and well-balanced! When you eat various foods every day, you tend to end up with a diet of ramen, curry, and fried food, so restaurants like this are appreciated. It's a heartwarming deliciousness. If this costs 650 yen, it's reasonable! I would like to visit again, but the worrying factor is that there were no customers in the restaurant. If you want a comforting meal, please visit this place.

Furano was really cold on this day. It was snowing mixed with rain since morning. After finishing work, I went to my grandma's house for a late lunch. She had promised to make me omurice last time I visited her. Omurice, omurice. Brrr, it's so cold... Excuse me, can you turn up the heat? Inside the restaurant, there was only one grandma who didn't seem to be a senior citizen yet. (By the way, I'm a grandpa now, damn it) I placed my order for omurice, and another grandma was called on the phone to make it. The omurice arrived. It wasn't just the omurice, it was an omurice set meal. Omurice set meal... Omurice, miso soup, raw ham salad, seaweed salad, and fukujinzuke. The omurice was a firm omelette wrapped around ketchup rice. I wish they had put a bit more ketchup on it. You can adjust the ketchup to your liking, though. (Oh, sorry. I got a bit cheeky with the grandma...) Sometimes you come across omurice with meat that's not chicken, like pork belly or ham, but here it was a proper chicken ketchup rice. A true representation of omurice. The miso soup, raw ham salad, and other sides made it a healthy meal. (And the omurice was a regular portion... Thank you for considering my chubby body.) It seems that when you go on long business trips, your body craves this kind of meal. Phew, I'm full. Thank you, grandma. That was delicious. From the damn grandpa.

This summer, the town of Furano is bustling with tourists. I am on a business trip. About 5-6 minutes walk from Furano Station, across from a motorcycle shop, I found a restaurant with a lunch sign. I visit Furano every year, but I never noticed this shop before. The name of the shop is "Baachan-ya" which means "Grandma's House". It has a simple and straightforward name. The shop looks like a regular house, and when you enter, you take off your shoes and say excuse me. There were two elderly women running the shop. It's a cozy place, just like being at someone's home. The menu is like a casual dining place. They offer a daily special lunch set with rice and miso soup, along with 8 side dishes. The main dish is grilled fish, and there are also salad, pickles, vinegared dishes, and cold noodles. Oh, I almost forgot, they also served zucchini tempura, so it became 9 side dishes in total! It was a well-balanced and delicious meal. The price for the lunch set was only 650 yen, which was a great value. They also have omurice on the menu, and the grandma at the shop explained to me how they make it. Next time, I will try the omurice. Furano has lost some of its traditional dining places like "Sengoku Shokudo" and "Kamachan" which have already closed down. It's a rare find to have a place like "Baachan-ya" where you can enjoy a good meal. I hope they continue to run their shop for a long time. Thank you for the meal.
