On October 25, 2024, I visited a restaurant near Tabata Station. After exiting the "North Exit" and turning right, I crossed the "Tabata Fureai Bridge" and took a left turn to go down a slope towards Oji. Instead of continuing down, I chose to descend a set of stairs nearby. At the bottom, I crossed the intersection and walked along "Tabata Station Nakanaka Street." The restaurant caught my eye because of a sign advertising a "One-Year Anniversary Special," where a normally 1,050-yen menu was available for 800 yen! Since I had been craving negitoro (chopped green onion and tuna) that day, I immediately decided to order the "Negitoro Donburi."
I arrived around 1 PM on a weekday, and there was just one customer inside. After placing my order, it took about five minutes for my meal to arrive. Along with the Negitoro Donburi, I received a miso soup with shrimp heads, simmered pumpkin, and pickles, making it a well-rounded set meal. The bowl was filled generously with rice and covered with negitoro. It also came with a fluffy omelet, pickled ginger, and a shell of wasabi on the side. I mixed the wasabi with soy sauce and combined it with the negitoro before digging in.
While the negitoro wasn't exceptionally delicious, it was enough to ensure that the rice didn't go uneaten. I appreciated the balance; a bowl that’s predominantly rice loses its value in my opinion. For 800 yen, this was quite a bargain! The restaurant also offered a separate menu featuring natural Indo tuna for those looking for a more premium taste. For someone looking for a quick lunch, this dish was perfectly adequate.
The omelet was wonderfully soft, encouraging me to keep eating. The miso soup stood out because of the shrimp heads, which added a delightful shellfish flavor. It was evident that the restaurant made good use of the shrimp heads from other dishes, as they contributed a rich broth even without the meat. The simmered pumpkin was slightly overcooked, almost mushy, but it was sweet and flavorful without being overwhelming.
Overall, while the meal would have been reasonably priced at the usual cost, the special price made it feel like an excellent deal, and I finished everything happily! The restaurant had an interesting menu; while there were high-end seafood items like "Ezo Bafun Uni" (sea urchin), there were also beef dishes featuring A5 rank meat, surprisingly at reasonable prices. After the first customer left, I was alone in the restaurant, with only one couple coming in afterward. I couldn’t help but wonder if the quiet atmosphere was a concern for the place. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my meal. Thank you!
