This is a local izakaya in Lake Toya, Hokkaido, popular among local employees. It is open from 9 pm to 3 am, a time when tired tourists can enjoy a delicious beer after finishing their sightseeing duties. I visited after working late into the night, around midnight. The daughter of a ramen shop and the daughter of a snack bar were chatting with the owner about local gossip. I enjoyed a beer and then switched to hot sake as it was getting cold. The menu isn't extensive, but everything is delicious. The izakaya is located a few blocks inland from the hot spring town. The building looks old from the Showa era, but the owners, a couple, are working hard. They are also enjoying their beer. The grilled chicken, specifically the thigh meat, was delicious. The grilled eggplant was also well-cooked and tasty. This modest izakaya fits perfectly with the early autumn chill. I later realized I had drunk too much hot sake, a common occurrence for me.
