When I go to the convenience store, my eyes are always drawn to the hot snacks next to the register. There are items like fried chicken, spring rolls, frankfurters, and American dogs. Among them, I really like the "Cheese-filled Rice Cake". When I think of rice cakes, I remember the ones my grandmother used to make with sugar soy sauce, but this one is not sweet at all. It's like a snack version of rice cakes, and the cheese inside has a good amount of saltiness. You can see them frying in the back, but they don't have that greasy feeling like supermarket fried foods, which is great. When I eat them, I lightly warm them up in the toaster. The surface of the rice cake becomes crispy, the cheese melts, and it creates a crunchy, chewy, and gooey texture. Today, I enjoyed them with a Mitsuya Cider. They go so well together, like a perfect match for this kind of junk food.

I tend to buy sweet treats whenever I go to the convenience store, but today I decided to choose two items from the frozen section: [Items purchased] - Char siu tsukemen (dipping noodles) / 270 yen - Sumire fried rice / 267 yen Char siu tsukemen: I love tsukemen, and I have a favorite shop where I usually go. I wanted to be able to enjoy tsukemen at home easily, so I bought this. First, the char siu was not good. It had a strong gamey smell and I couldn't eat it. The noodles come in a 300g serving, which is equivalent to a "large" size at the restaurant. The texture is chewy. The soup has a slight thickness to it. It is made with a base of pork and chicken, with added dried fish broth. It's milder compared to a seafood pork bone broth. It's light and not really my preference, but for this price (270 yen), it's decent. Sumire fried rice: This is the fried rice from the famous ramen shop "Sumire" in Sapporo. I've only had Sumire's fried rice once in the past, and that was a long time ago, so I can't remember the taste. The ingredients include egg, char siu, and green peas. Looking at a photo of the fried rice I had at Sumire in the past, it seems like they have reproduced it accurately. The only difference is that the original has pickled ginger on top, which this one doesn't. So, I added pickled ginger as a topping myself. The aroma of the soy sauce stir-fry is appetizing. The texture is more moist than "fluffy." When you cover it with plastic wrap and heat it up, it tends to get moist due to the steam. I think this is just the nature of frozen fried rice, so I'm not too bothered by it. I actually don't mind moist fried rice, so it's okay for me. The flavor is strong and it was delicious. With 300g at this price, it's quite satisfying. Frozen foods are convenient because you can thaw and eat the amount you want. I saved half for later, and I plan to eat the rest with ramen. I use Seven Eleven when I want a little bit of bread but don't feel like going to a bakery. A small croissant (custard) 5-pack for 116 yen. When you open the bag, a nice buttery smell wafts out. It's a slightly sweet croissant, not actually filled with custard cream. It may not compare to the flaky croissants from a bakery, but I still crave it from time to time. I ended up buying snacks instead of just bread. I love browsing through the snack section at convenience stores and supermarkets. I bought two boxes of the limited edition Bitte (sakura) for 365 yen each. I also got the Morinaga DARS (oshiruko) for 198 yen, which tastes just like red bean soup. Lastly, I tried the new Chiroru chocolate (florantin) for 33 yen, which has a caramel flavor and crunchy almonds inside. Convenience store snacks are always fun to try out because new products are constantly being released. I'll definitely be back soon to see what's new.

After finishing my errands, I felt like having something sweet, so I stopped by Seven-Eleven. Here's what I bought: - Strawberry sandwich / 298 yen - White mochi taiyaki / 138 yen - Bitte (Sakura) / 365 yen Strawberry Sandwich: It's a sandwich with strawberries, whipped cream, and custard cream sandwiched between bread. There are visible strawberries, but not many hidden ones. I added some extra strawberries at home. White Mochi Taiyaki: This one is delicious. It's super chewy and probably has tapioca flour in it for that chewy texture. The custard cream is also tasty. It's made by Tokachi Daifuku Honpo. I wish they would make an azuki bean version too. Bitte (Sakura): Among all the biscuits sold in supermarkets and convenience stores, Bitte is my favorite. This "Sakura" flavor seems to be a Seven-Eleven exclusive, so I thought I'd review it. The biscuit has fermented butter mixed in, with sakura-flavored cream sandwiched between them and coated with sakura-flavored chocolate. It's pink and cute. I personally like the scent of fermented butter more than the sakura flavor, but this is my favorite flavor of Bitte so far. I'll definitely buy it again before it's no longer available. By the way, there's also a Sakura-flavored Pocky available exclusively at Seven-Eleven. It's exciting when sakura-themed products start coming out, isn't it? Spring is almost here!

The other day, when I stopped by Seven to buy a drink, I saw that this product had just arrived and was on display. I couldn't resist picking it up and decided to try it. This cup noodle from Mokotanmen Nakamoto at Seven Eleven Sapporo Atsubetsu Chuo 1-jo store, I used to eat it quite a bit before, but it didn't quite compare to the impact of eating the real thing at the "Hokkyoku" restaurant, so I haven't been eating it recently. On August 25, 2014 at 9pm, I visited a standing soba and gyudon restaurant in My Town, Shin-Sapporo Station. I had a small udon as well. When I got off at the station, I was feeling a bit hungry, so I stopped by the nearby Seven Eleven for a light snack. I usually only buy sweet Chinese buns at this shop throughout the year, but once in a while I try something different. I got two pieces of zangi for 72 yen, which were on sale at 10% off for hot snacks. They were really delicious. (ω)

On New Year's Day, I watched Job Chune on TV and they were really harsh judges, so I decided to grab some cigarettes at Seven Eleven and ended up getting a pizza as well. It's been a while since I tried making an open-range pizza. Margherita was pretty good, especially the dough was delicious. Personally, I prefer Siciliana though. I'll keep some in the freezer for next time.

This time, I bought Koopa's super spicy fried chicken roll and Yoshi's melon bread. The Koopa's super spicy fried chicken roll is extremely spicy! I was prepared, but the chili sauce is incredibly hot. It's spicy but quite delicious. Milk is a must! Yoshi's melon bread is sweet and delicious.
