After finishing meetings with about three clients around the Hamamatsucho area, it was just past noon. I knew there were many delicious lunch spots around Hamamatsucho, but I decided to try a new place I hadn't been to before. I searched on my smartphone and found a top result saying "Delicious Tai Chazuke!" which made my mouth water with the thought of the flavorful broth (laughs). However, I also thought that ramen and Western cuisine sounded tempting too. In the end, I decided to trust my initial inspiration and headed to the restaurant… only to find a long line! Well, it was lunchtime, so that was to be expected. Seeing lineups of salarymen and office workers confirmed that the place must be really good!
While hoping for the line to shorten, I decided to walk around and check out other places. However, every restaurant had a waiting line of about 4 to 7 people, so I figured it was fine to wait. I stood in line in front of the restaurant, and just when I got there, a single seat opened up, so I was quickly shown inside. The restaurant had five tables and about four counter seats. I ended up sitting at the very front of the counter, near the exit.
The setup felt more like a drinking place, as the dinner menu was written on the wall, and the lunch menu was placed on the table. When I looked through the lunch menu… huh?? I didn’t see any mention of Tai Chazuke (TдT). Oh no?! I came here specifically for Tai Chazuke… wait, I remembered that the sign outside had listed a few lunch options. From that, I decided to order the “Market 3-Species Bowl.” The lunch menu changes depending on the day's fresh ingredients, so there wasn’t much I could do about that! (By the way… I actually ended up eating at a different restaurant than the one I searched for! Am I really that forgetful? ( ノД`)シクシク…)
Anyway, the "Market 3-Species Bowl" turned out to be delicious because it used fresh fish sourced from the market that morning! In the photo, you can see the sardine under the ginger in the front, and the thick-cut yellowtail in the upper left, while the white fish on the right is black throat sea perch. The black perch was light yet had a nice crunchy texture, making it pretty tasty! Along with the bowl, I got a soup made from fish bones, and it was incredibly delicious! Just drinking that soup made me feel it was worth it!
Despite my mistake in choosing the wrong restaurant, I was grateful to have enjoyed a delicious bowl and fish soup, experiencing my own version of a “Solitary Gourmet” moment like Inogashira Goro (laughs). Next time, I might try the “Simmered Dish with Seafood Small Bowl,” “Saikyo Grilled Dish with Seafood Small Bowl,” or maybe even “Today’s Fry & Cream Croquette with Seafood Small Bowl.” I’m excited about all those options and plan to go back for sure! !(^^)!
