[December 2009 revisit, stay]
I couldn't forget the beautiful scenery I saw in the summer, so I decided to stay here at the end of the year. I was really questioning if the price was really worth it! It was a hotel that made me think that way. To be honest, I almost didn't want to share this place (laughs). I even considered not posting a review. The food, compared to high-end French restaurants, may not be as impressive. I can't remember the names of the dishes since some time has passed. But considering the price, the taste was more than satisfying, even leaving change. And the scenery, the service, and most importantly, the tranquility here! It's wonderful. I enjoyed walking around in the heavy snow. The room was spacious and comfortable. The view from the large balcony was amazing. The room is a duplex with the bedroom on the second floor. The bath is not a hot spring, but the bathroom is spacious. The only downside was that the room was very dry, and the humidifier provided was not enough, so I had to wet and hang towels or put hot water in the bathroom and leave the door open. Another thing! The toilet seat was not heated, so it was so cold that I almost had a heart attack (laughs). I wanted to stay during the season when the larch trees turn yellow, but I had to give up this year due to pests affecting the beautiful yellow leaves. I hope to visit again next year.
[First post July 20, visited August 2009]
Title of the first post: "Ezo deer meat cutlet curry eaten in a quiet space in the forest"
When I visited Furano last month (August 2009) and saw the brochure, the area near Lake Kanayama looked interesting, so I came here the next month. For lunch, I chose the "Nampu Ezo Katsukare" that the town of Kami-Furano is promoting, where several shops in the town compete with the same ingredients, cooking method, and price for Ezo deer meat cutlet curry. I chose the restaurant "Le Montagne" located inside the Log Hotel Larch. It's a bit far from places like road stations, but that turned out to be the charm of this restaurant. It's a very quiet place. There are specific rules for the Nampu Ezo Katsukare, such as pounding the Ezo deer meat to a certain thickness and frying it, using carrots for the side dish (this restaurant serves pickles), and serving bamboo grass tea. Other than that, each shop has its own unique touch. This restaurant... the curry is served separately, with a large Ezo deer meat cutlet on top of white rice, surrounded by colorful vegetables from Kami-Furano (bell peppers, paprika, asparagus, eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.), and delicious curry. Of course, it comes with carrot pickles and ice-cold bamboo grass tea. All this for 950 yen is definitely a bargain. Ezo deer meat is delicious, isn't it? Personally, I would prefer to have it as a steak rather than a cutlet (laughs). Well, as an introductory dish to Ezo deer meat, I think cutlet curry is good. The view from the restaurant is fantastic. The service is excellent. I heard that you can enjoy a full-course French meal while admiring this view, so my husband and I stayed here in December 2009 (that's another review). I would like to visit again, preferably during the season when the larch trees turn red. It may not be comparable to "high-end hotel French cuisine in a big city," but with this price, this view, and this hospitality (in a way, it's unrefined, simple, and sincere hospitality), I think it offers something that cannot be found in a big city. The view alone is worth a visit. Start with a budget-friendly lunch and experience the goodness of this hotel restaurant.
