I was curious about the boiled tripe version at Yudetaro. That day, my dinner plans were all disappointing, so I decided to go to Motsu Jiro. I ordered the Double Motsu Set with customizable toppings for 1080 yen. I chose deep-fried horse mackerel as the topping. First, the boiled tripe was not as rich and heavy as expected, but it had a light taste. The tripe was tender and there was a good amount of it. Adding some shichimi spice enhanced the flavor even more. The other dish was stir-fried tripe, which had a spicy gochujang-based seasoning that went well with rice. The horse mackerel was unexpectedly thick and juicy, and very delicious. The set also came with cold tofu and miso soup. Eating all of these dishes made for a satisfying meal with a good amount of food. Personally, I wish the boiled tripe had a bit more richness, but overall, I think it was well done.

One weekend, I had lunch at a restaurant bookmarked in Higashi-Kari 9-jo, Higashi Ward. It is a restaurant that serves motsu (offal) dishes alongside soba, which seems to be gaining popularity recently. The parking lot seems to have enough space for parking. The interior of the restaurant is of average size, with small and large table seats. Even before lunchtime, quite a few customers were already visiting. The BGM playing is specific to the restaurant. On this day, I ordered the "Motsu Mix Set Meal (980 yen)" from the ticket vending machine. I requested rice to be served in a regular portion. The motsu stir-fry looked slightly red and seemed to have a miso base. It was slightly sweet and salty, with a moderate amount of motsu flavor. The saltiness was a bit high, making the rice go down smoothly. It also included finely chopped onions, carrots, and chives. Next, the motsu stew was served piping hot and tasted good. It had a strong miso flavor, complemented by a balanced amount of motsu flavor. The konnyaku and leeks worked well together. As both dishes were quite generous in portion, I recommend getting a large serving of rice. The meal also included cold tofu, sweet and sour pickled radish and greens, miso soup with leeks and seaweed, and rice. Personally, I love motsu, so my motsu cravings were satisfied. However, I noticed that everyone around me seemed to be choosing soba dishes. Perhaps it's due to the price? Oh, I just realized that they no longer have discount coupons available. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

The set meal with motsu (tripe) stew includes motsu stew and fried chicken for 800 yen. You can choose between fried horse mackerel and fried chicken. Rice can be served in a large portion. The motsu stew only contains motsu, cooked tenderly in miso flavor. I was expecting more ingredients like tofu, konnyaku, or vegetables. It was not as I imagined. It lacks a rich flavor. It may not be satisfying as a main dish with rice, but it could be a good appetizer with alcohol. The fried chicken was average, but it was served hot. I received a coupon for Yudetarou, so I might try that next time. Thank you for the meal.

Visited for the first time on May 5, Mother's Day today. Saw a sign for my "Yudetaro" shop nearby, but decided to have lunch at the first Hokkaido branch of "Motsu Jiro" to give a gift to my mother-in-law who is nearby. The Yudetaro shop in Sapporo's Kawashita store nearby closed down, and the Shiroishi Hondori store apparently became a combined store with "Motsu Jiro" on the same day, April 29. I ordered the "Motsu Nitsuke Teishoku" for 680 yen, which came with "Motsu Nitsuke," cold tofu, wakame miso soup, and takana pickles. Honestly, it doesn't feel as good value as the menu at Yudetaro. I later noticed that they also have a "Motsu Stir-fry Teishoku." I made a mistake ordering the same thing as my family. The "Motsu Nitsuke" only had pork intestines, with no vegetables like daikon or burdock, tofu, or konjac. While "Motsu Nitsuke" is good as a side dish for alcohol, it may not be suitable as a main dish in a set meal. It seems to be a second brand as part of the Yudetaro renewal, but I honestly don't see the point of combining stores and expanding the menu. I still think that soba is the best at Yudetaro.

Yudetaro's store has a joint store called Motsu Jiro. I don't mind this simple naming! The prices are relatively high. I ordered the standard set meal. Waited for 5 minutes. Huh? Can't they serve it quickly if all they have to do is pour it? Upon closer inspection, I noticed that they have packs of simmered motsu for takeout... Oh, I see. It takes time because they have to heat it up from scratch. To be honest, the seasoning, or rather the depth of flavor, is lacking. It's a lightly simmered dish, but if it's a set meal, I want something more rich and thick. It lacks impact. Also, the rice! Why are chain stores like this with such low quality? Japanese rice is supposed to be tastier! It's dry and lacks stickiness, not much flavor, just like "consume your carbs." I think if you're looking for quality, don't go to a chain store, but these kinds of places are for getting a quick and satisfying meal. Motsu is the main dish, but I want some vegetables too. It felt too specialized. Motsu stew is meant to be enjoyed with alcohol. Just my two cents...

The simmered pork belly set meal costs 760 yen. You can get extra rice for free. It was simply delicious.
