On May 10, 2024, I had a curry lunch at Great India Restaurant in Koto Ward, located in Tatsumi. The Tatsumi Housing Complex (Tatsumi Apartments) was developed between 1967 and 1969 and is an area lacking lunch options. About half of the restaurants on the first floor are shuttered, leaving limited choices, but I found "Great India Restaurant" and decided to give it a try. After I entered, more customers followed, and it quickly filled up, indicating it's quite a competitive spot.
The sign at the entrance advertised a "Daily Special Set" for 790 yen, which includes one curry, naan or rice (no refills), salad, and a soft drink. The regular Lunch A set is 1,050 yen with one free refill of naan or rice (50 yen for the second refill). The Lunch B set is 1,280 yen and includes two types of curry (the rest is the same as A). I opted for the Lunch B set at 1,280 yen, choosing "Keema Curry" and "Mutton Curry," with a drink of "Lassi" and the spice level set to "Hot."
When the set arrived, it was served in a small stainless steel bowl with both curries. The keema had a good amount of minced meat. The mutton also had chunks of meat the size of Tirol chocolates, though you can’t see that from the picture. After completing my vegetable intake, I took my first bite. It was quite spicy, bordering at the upper limit of what I could enjoy, and spicier than I had expected. The naan was piping hot, making it quite the challenge to hold. There's nothing quite like freshly baked naan. The keema and mutton had distinctly different flavors, with the mutton having a slight tanginess.
Of course, I had a second helping of naan and thoroughly enjoyed my lassi, leaving me completely satisfied. It was truly delicious!
