Unfortunately, "Daikichi" was fully booked so I had to settle for this place instead. The mama's salty attitude was unchanged. And I ran into an old acquaintance I didn't want to see. Well, the meat and sauce were delicious. But, as expected, behind Kushiro Station is quite deep. 😂

The atmosphere is a bit lethargic, the service is a bit salty, and the clientele is not the most welcoming. The only saving grace is that the meat and sauce are exceptionally delicious. It's best not to expect too much. For first-time visitors, it might be a bit tough... However, once you accept the unique atmosphere and people, it becomes quite intriguing. - Sapporo Black Label beer (bottle) ¥600 - Hormone (organ meat) ¥600 - Senmai (thinly sliced beef tripe) ¥700 - Shochu (distilled spirit) with water ¥450 - Rice (small portion) ¥200 - Beef sagari (hanging tender) ¥850

At the counter seats shaped like the letter "Co," there are shichirin grills emitting smoke, with the atmosphere of a horse racing viewing bar. A couple of older gentlemen and a senior female proprietor manage the place. They cook hormone, liver, miso, and loin on the grill. The taste doesn't matter much because the essence of this place is the experience itself. The bottled beer is delicious. When we grilled pork belly, I thought the shichirin might explode! The restaurant felt like it was on fire. We also grilled kimchi and pork kimchi. It was a feast! Thank you for the meal. Exploring local foods across the country - Kushiro Hormone Edition.

"The horumon (offal) at Bakumanri behind the station is amazing! I received a message from a junior friend on SNS, so I decided to check it out. I took a stroll from the entertainment district of Suehirocho to Kushiro. Upon arrival, I noticed something suspicious - the place seemed open but was dimly lit inside. Nevertheless, I couldn't turn back now. As I entered, two elderly ladies seemed wary of me. I mustered a smile and asked, 'May I?' They gestured me to a seat at the counter, and I felt relieved. I ordered a beer and some horumon. The atmosphere was authentically retro, reminiscent of the Showa era. The horumon was boiled, but I preferred it crispy so I grilled it well. The bottled beer was delicious. The horumon was nicely grilled, with a light saltiness and a hint of fat, making it tender and easy to chew. The sauce, a blend of chicken broth, soy sauce, and mirin, complemented the horumon well. It was a unique and flavorful experience. The place had a charm that appealed to me, and the horumon had a taste that would keep me coming back. It seemed popular among locals, with a few taking some for takeaway. The two elderly ladies appeared to be part-time workers. The ambiance, the food, and the overall experience made me appreciate this hidden gem in Kushiro. It was my third night on my journey, and I found myself back in Kushiro. Now, where to next?"

There is a charming local restaurant that I have been wanting to visit for a while. Normally, I stay at a hotel near the Heiwa Bridge, but this time I chose a hotel near the station so that I could easily walk to the restaurant through the underground passage. The neon lights of the restaurant give it a nice atmosphere, especially when it gets dark. Despite feeling a bit hesitant to enter a place full of regular customers, I noticed there was only one person inside when I peeked through the window. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, they couldn't serve alcohol, which was understandable. The staff kindly suggested a seat near the stove as it was warmer. I ordered hormone, heart, tripe, and kimchi, along with non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy the ambiance. The total bill was around 3100 yen. The boiled hormone didn't produce much smoke when cooked on the grill, and I was advised that it could be eaten just by warming it up, but I preferred a bit of a sear on mine. The miso-based sauce was also quite interesting. A few more customers arrived after me, but some left upon learning that alcohol wasn't being served. The staff mentioned that they heavily rely on takeout orders to sustain the business during these challenging times. As I left, the owner bid me farewell, urging me to visit again when alcohol is available. Please be cautious when visiting during the current restrictions, as the restaurant closes at 8 pm and alcohol service is suspended. It seems that the restrictions in the area may be extended for another two weeks, so stay informed.

Customer service is not something to expect here. The interior is far from clean, with a ceiling covered in years of charcoal grime. The atmosphere in this place behind Kushiro Station is quite lethargic. The standout feature of this restaurant is its sauce, generously sprinkled with versatile green onions for a unique flavor. The meat is cut in a wild manner, offering a satisfying chew. It may take some courage for first-time visitors to enter this establishment. -Ordered Items- ・Horumon (¥550) ・Mino (¥1100) ・Bottled beer (Kirin Lager) (¥600) ・Shochu (Big Man) (¥400)

In August 2021, due to an emergency situation, restaurants cannot serve alcohol after 7:00 PM. Many restaurants are closed, but I felt like having some yakiniku. I decided to visit this restaurant and ordered some hormone yakiniku on the charcoal grill. It was still around 4:30 PM when I arrived, but there were already three groups of customers inside. The old man who seems to be always there was already prepared. I ordered a beer and 2 servings of hormone and 1 serving of sagari. I have been to this restaurant many times, and it has a strong Showa era vibe, which I think is charming. The boiled hormone at this restaurant is cheap and delicious. However, the charcoal grill on this day had weak heat, making it difficult to cook the meat. The sagari had less fat than usual. Maybe focusing on just one type of meat is better at this restaurant. Overall, I was satisfied. With a happy mood, I decided to move on to the next place. Thank you for the meal.

I read an article saying that Kushiro is good for hormone dishes, so I searched for a place to eat and found this place that caught my interest. It's a small shop with only a counter. I sat at an empty seat and ordered a bottle of beer. When asked Kirin or Sapporo, I chose Sapporo. After taking a sip, I thought, "Hmm, tasty." I ordered two servings of hormone. They told me to warm up the boiled hormone before eating. Boiling hormone to grill? I followed their instructions and grilled it before dipping it in sauce and taking a bite. Mmm, it's delicious. It's tender and goes well with the sauce. This shop offers various homemade dishes. The sauce is also homemade, of course. Afterwards, I had kimchi, harami, and finished everything. I had a fun conversation with the lady and learned a lot. Oh, and they also serve Genghis Khan. When I paid and left, it was so cold that I took a taxi home. I definitely want to visit this place again.

Last night, I walked to a restaurant to have dinner, but there was a sign saying they were closed for a while. I wasn't sure what to do since many places in Kushiro are closed on Sundays and it was cold outside. As I was walking, I saw a light and smelled something delicious. I was drawn in. There was only one other group of customers. We ordered bottled beer, non-alcoholic beer, 2 servings of horumon, 2 servings of Genghis Khan, grilled vegetables (large), and rice (large). It had been a while since I had been there, probably about 3 years. The horumon here is always so tasty. The lady running the place is really friendly and chatty. After the other customers left, she kept me company and we chatted about all sorts of things until more customers arrived. I was in a great mood and ended up drinking 3 bottles of beer by myself. The atmosphere is so nostalgic and I love it. This restaurant is really trying their best during the pandemic.

On November 8, 2020 (Sunday), I had a solo lunch drink. I went to a restaurant in a deep area of Kushiro. It's a place that gives off a dangerous vibe at night, so I came during the day. The interior has a strong Showa era atmosphere. I ordered a bottled beer (600 yen) because that's the only option here. I asked for a Kirin Lager. Next, Hormone (550 yen) and Mino (1100 yen) arrived. The meat cuts are bigger here compared to my usual favorite, Takusa. The quality of the meat is similar, with the boiled hormone having a chewy texture. The Mino is a bit tough. It's quite satisfying to eat. The taste of the sauce is a bit sharper and more watery compared to Takusa. There's no white sesame... It feels like I'm in an away game, but the modern building of Hotel Route Inn visible from the entrance exaggerates the atmosphere of this run-down interior. I don't dislike this vibe. After finishing my meal, I headed back home. Now, should I go for a drink nearby... Thanks for the meal.

Yesterday I made a terrible mistake by posting a review for a different restaurant. Today, I will review Wakamatsu-ten! Date of Visit: August 11, 2020. For dinner on this day, my companion and I visited Hyakumanri. This is the last of the four Hyakumanri locations in the city. We arrived around 20:00. There were no customers before us, and only one after us. We ordered: - Hormone (550 yen) - Heart (650 yen) - Pork tongue (650 yen) - Kalbi (800 yen) - Beef sagari (800 yen) - Liver (800 yen) - Korean pickles (300 yen) - Rice, large x2 (300 yen each) - Beer x2 (600 yen each) - Oolong tea (250 yen) The hormone was large and tender, with just the right amount of fat. It was quite delicious and went well with the slightly miso-flavored sauce. The heart was a bit confusing as we couldn't tell where the heart was in some pieces. It didn't have a strong taste of milk, which was good. The pork tongue was seasoned with salt and pepper, but the pepper was a bit overpowering. The kalbi had less fat for kalbi standards. It wasn't large, but it had a decent thickness, giving it a satisfying texture. The beef sagari was a bit tough, and the kalbi was more delicious. The liver was... hmm. The freshness was lacking. The Korean pickles were more salty than spicy. The crunchy texture of the Chinese cabbage was nice. The beer here was bottled beer, either Kirin or Sapporo. The drinks were cold, but the glasses were at room temperature, causing the beer to warm up quickly. Beer needs to be cold. The two waitresses didn't seem unfriendly, but there was a strange sense of distance. If you enjoy being a regular or experiencing a Showa-era vibe, it might be good for you. The door of the restaurant was wide open, probably for COVID-19 measures, but it allowed flies and beetles to fly around, which was not a pleasant experience. And when it comes to Hyakumanri, you can't forget the oolong tea. This was like a trip to Kobe's Foreign Settlement! Just like the other two locations, they served a big can of oolong tea. By the third visit, it was becoming a Hyakumanri visit just for the oolong tea, but I finally completed the set. Each Hyakumanri location had its own unique charm, and I enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal.

I feel like entering a place with "hormone" written on the sign. This time, I wanted to eat hormone in Shimacho, so I entered, but here they have a system of boiling the hormone and then grilling it. I also ordered sagari, but it wasn't that great. However, dipping the hormone in the sauce was delicious! They also sell the sauce separately, and it must be popular.

The storefront is impressive! The hormone (offal) is boiled so it doesn't have a strong taste. The Genghis Khan (grilled mutton) is thick and satisfying. They sell shochu by weight, which is a mysterious system, but it doesn't seem expensive. I drank it by adding lemon juice and soda.

In the back of Kushiro Station, there is a deep yakiniku restaurant that I have been curious about for a while. I finally gathered the courage to step in this time. It has a Showa era atmosphere, reminiscent of a horumon (offal) restaurant in Honshu. It seems to be run by two older sisters. The restaurant mainly consists of counter tables, where the staff can move around inside the counter area like at Yoshinoya. Their specialty is boiled horumon grilled over charcoal, which is incredibly delicious. The boiled horumon becomes tenderer the more you grill it, giving it a nostalgic and tasty flavor. I also tried their Genghis Khan (grilled lamb), which surprisingly tasty even though it's frozen slices. They offer bottled Sapporo and Kirin beer, and ask if you want a double or single highball. Customers can be seen enjoying horumon and rice alone, or having a lively drinking session with friends. This place offers a cozy atmosphere that is hard to find in modern yakiniku restaurants. It may be intimidating for a woman to enter alone, but I believe it's a must-visit for horumon lovers.

On July 15, 2011 (Friday), a little before 7 pm, I visited a yakiniku restaurant called "Hyakumanri" near the north exit of Kushiro Station for the first time. Three years ago, when I stayed in Kushiro, I had passed by the restaurant and thought it had a nostalgic Showa era vibe. This time, staying nearby again, I decided to finally go in. Inside, there were several local customers enjoying grilled meat and offal cooked over charcoal. The atmosphere had a nostalgic Showa feel, which I liked. The restaurant was run by two older sisters. I ordered a beer and some side dishes, then decided to try their offal and sagari. The offal had a unique appearance and was delicious, with a soft initial texture and a satisfying chewiness. The offal was boiled, which was uncommon in Kushiro. The whiskey was served in a bottle for customers to pour themselves, and I enjoyed it with hot tea. The sagari was average, but the juicy kimchi and cold tofu were tasty. The warm somen noodles served as a special treat were flavorful and a perfect way to end the meal. The friendly atmosphere and delicious food made for a pleasant dining experience.

When you come out of Kushiro Station North Exit and cross the road running east to west, you will see a red neon sign that says "Horumon". The interior of the restaurant has a nostalgic atmosphere from the Showa era. It can get cold in areas without a stove during winter. The restroom, although old, is clean. When you order grilled meat, a shichirin (small charcoal grill) is brought to your table. I always order the horumon, which is very popular. It seems to be boiled, so I grill it over charcoal without burning it, then dip it in the special sauce and eat it. The taste can be summed up in one word: delicious. The prices are reasonable, making it a perfect spot for a casual drink after work.

I love the exterior of this place, it has a nice atmosphere. The interior is also great. I ordered hormone and yakiniku. The boiled hormone cooked on charcoal was surprisingly tender the more it cooked, and the sauce was delicious. It may not compare to raw hormone, but it was still good in its own way. The texture was nice and it was a pleasant discovery. I also ordered Genghis Khan, and some kind of beef dish (I forgot the name). The prices were reasonable considering the appearance of the restaurant. The Sapporo Black Label beer was cold and delicious. It helped cool down the atmosphere and put me in a slightly tipsy mood.
