グルメハンター・酔いどれ天使
New Sapporo Building, 1st floor, located at 8-2-5 Higashi 10-jo, Kita, Higashi Ward, Sapporo City, Hokkaido. A curry restaurant with a Showa retro atmosphere that evokes a sense of nostalgia and melancholy. I have visited several times, and at first, I thought it was closed or not in operation, but the business days were posted at the entrance of the store. I visited around 12 PM on a weekday. The door was open, and they were open for business. I was relieved. There was a signboard in front of the entrance, stating that due to being operated by a single staff member, service might take some time. This kind of information is essential to know in advance. Fortunately, there were no other customers this time, which was helpful. The interior of the restaurant has a bar-like atmosphere, with only counter seats and clear partitions for a tidy and organized feel. In the back, there is a drum set, and the walls are adorned with many American graffiti-style photos, including Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Surprisingly, this place has been operating as a bar for about 15 years, and the owner's daughter has been serving curry for lunch for the past 2 years.
- Spice Chicken Curry: 700 yen
- Soft-boiled Seasoned Egg: 80 yen
- Fried Broccoli: 120 yen
The curry sauce base is the same for all dishes. The chicken curry includes chicken thigh, while the rest have only the sauce with different ingredients. You can choose the spiciness level from none, medium, to extra spicy. I ordered the extra spicy. After a short wait, the dishes arrived. The fried broccoli topping was generous, much more than expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The soft-boiled seasoned egg was also a nice touch. There were fried green beans and onion fry sprinkled on top. First, I tried the sauce, which had a rich flavor with a good balance of spices, making it a very delicious curry. It was thick and creamy, making me briefly think it was a dry curry, but the menu mentioned the use of Hokkaido kelp and tomatoes, so it's not entirely dry. I chose extra spicy, and the level of spiciness was perfect. It's impressive that the curry was developed entirely through self-taught methods, not from training at a famous Tokyo restaurant. It's so delicious and perfect that I find myself wanting to go back and eat it again while writing this article. Additionally, at night, they operate as a shot bar, offering drinks for only 500 yen per shot. I'm curious about their nighttime offerings too!
