It's lunch at Yoshiko-chan's place. Probably run by an elderly man who seems to be Yoshiko-chan and a quiet woman. There is a counter with a stove, where you can enjoy Genghis Khan or yakiniku by yourself. So, this is not a typical set meal shop but mainly a yakiniku restaurant. It was a mystery until now. It gives the impression of a set meal shop with many regular customers. I ordered the oyakodon. It was a generous portion for only 600 yen. Very reasonable. However, the taste was a bit too ordinary. I know I shouldn't expect too much. Thank you for the meal.

I had been curious about the restaurant called "Yoshi-chan" for a while. After work, my partner and I decided to visit for the first time. The parking lot was in front and on the side of the restaurant, covered with a lot of snow. We were struggling to find a spot, but the owner came out to help us, which was very kind of them. The restaurant had a counter and three raised seating areas, with an old gas stove placed by the window, giving it a nostalgic feel.
After much deliberation, we ordered the Hormone Set and the Chicken Thigh Set (each 700 yen excluding tax). When asked if we wanted to cook the food ourselves, we opted to have them cooked by the staff for the best timing. The dishes arrived promptly, but I realized my mistake - the meat was served on plates, so it cooled down quickly as we ate (haha). Next time, I'll cook it myself.
The Chicken Thigh Set came with cabbage and chicken thighs on a plate. It was a set meal that included rice, miso soup, and pickles. The chicken thighs marinated in soy sauce were delicious! When dipped in the accompanying sauce, it made me crave more rice. Also, I usually don't drink miso soup, but the one here was surprisingly tasty (haha).
The Hormone Set was served on a metal plate, which caused it to cool down quickly as well. However, it had no unpleasant smell and was delicious! I found myself wanting more rice again. I seriously considered adding fried rice, but decided to save it for next time. With its affordability and deliciousness, I will definitely be coming back!

Next to a famous set meal restaurant in Hakodate is Yakiniku and Teishoku restaurant called Yoi-chan. I decided to check it out based on someone's blog recommendation. The exterior of the restaurant may seem a bit intimidating for first-time visitors. The interior is like a typical independently-owned izakaya, with counter seats on the left as you enter, the kitchen in front, and three raised tables on the right. The menu includes yakiniku, set meals, rice bowls, and ramen, all at affordable prices which is great. I ordered the Hinano Momoniku Teishoku for 700 yen excluding tax. You can choose to grill it yourself or have the owner grill it for you. Since it was unusually warm in Hakodate that day, I opted to have it grilled by the owner. After a short wait, the delicious set meal arrived. It looked so appetizing with plenty of cabbage and chicken thigh meat. The rice was perfectly cooked and shiny. The meat was pre-seasoned and grilled, with a flavor close to teriyaki. It was delicious even without any additional side dishes. When I added mayonnaise, it became the perfect combination with rice. The spicy condiment given with the yakiniku sauce added a different flavor dimension, making it even more delicious. The harmony between the taste of the meat itself and the sauce was amazing. The owner, Yoi-chan, also provided great service. It was a delightful lunch experience at this hidden gem of a restaurant. I'm already looking forward to trying their Genghis Khan or Chicken Cutlet next time. Yoi-chan is doing a great job!
