It is actually difficult to eat Genghis Khan for lunch in Sapporo. This is because many restaurants only open at night. Is it meant to be eaten with alcohol rather than as a meal accompaniment? Even at Shibe BBQ, which I visited twice during lunch hours, the affordable lunch sets are limited to weekdays, and on weekends you have to choose from the regular meat menu, with no flavored Genghis Khan available. However, I found a great lunch menu that is available on Sundays at a place located at the end of Tanuki Koji street. It is a set meal where you can choose two types of meat for only 980 yen! I checked out of my accommodation at 11 am and arrived a bit earlier than my reservation, feeling a bit lost, but I was able to enter the restaurant right away. There is a coat rack right at the entrance to prevent clothes from getting smoky. The two floor staff were very cheerful and kind, which lifted my mood and made me feel excited. However, my body temperature didn't register when they checked it. It's always low. "I want the special lunch, but I only want the flavored Genghis Khan," I said. "In that case, we can double the flavored Genghis Khan for you," they advised. I also ordered the lamb shoulder loin for 680 yen to compare the flavors. A grill and set were brought to the table. The meal included seaweed soup, Korean seaweed and kimchi, bean sprout namul, and several other dishes. I started grilling the lamb shoulder loin. The meat was thick, just the way I like it! Even if the meat is cut nicely, if it's too thin, it will cook quickly on the charcoal and you won't be able to enjoy it medium rare. The thickness helps retain the meat juices. I grilled it to a nice crispy outside, rolled it in butter as advised, and seasoned it with salt and pepper. The meat was delicious and had a great texture. Next, I tried the flavored Genghis Khan. The cuts were rough and thick, and grilling it was a bit underwhelming at first. But when I dipped it in the sauce provided, the flavor was complete. It had a two-step flavor profile! I was so focused on eating the meat. It was easily over 200 grams. I finished the meal with seaweed and kimchi. They gave me a complimentary soft drink since I mentioned I found them on a food review website. I chose tomato juice. The charcoal grill was at the perfect temperature, allowing me to grill the meat at my own pace. The overall dining experience is greatly influenced by how you are treated. The staff were attentive and provided great service, making my experience even better. I even took a photo to remember the moment. The bill came out to 1780 yen. Amazing deal. As I left, I made sure to recommend the place to a man who was looking at the signboard.
