Today, I'm going to enjoy Saturday to the fullest by heading to 2cafe in Omori for a snack! Actually, I tried to visit last week, but when I arrived, I noticed there was no sign outside... As I was checking the café's Instagram, the owner came running out! I found out that on that day, they were closed for the "Oota Recommended Marche" and had a booth at Atre Omori instead. I felt disappointed but followed them to Atre and ended up buying a set of baked goods.
Then yesterday, I tried again to visit the café, but when I entered, something seemed off. It turned out they were not open for regular service that day, but rather offering a dessert course by reservation at 12 PM and 7 PM. I was disheartened after being turned down two weeks in a row, but just as I was about to leave, they graciously welcomed me in! I felt a bit guilty, but I was incredibly grateful!
I really wanted to try a specific menu item, and here’s what I had that day:
- Hoegaarden White Beer 800 yen
- Lemon Tea Soda 800 yen
- 2cafe Special Set 4300 yen
- Cake Sale, Chilled White Corn Soup, Tomato with Tomato Jelly
- Melon Dessert
- Mango and Passionfruit Bäschler
- Three small sweets (Raspberry Meringue Cookie, Hojicha Chocolate, and Tea Pound Cake)
Since it wasn't regular service, I was told I could order anything, so I opted for the special set! The first plate that came out only listed "Cake Sale" on the menu, but I also received the chilled white corn soup and tomato jelly, which I assumed were part of the dessert course. I felt quite lucky to be able to enjoy these!
I knew the Cake Sale was delicious from my previous visit, but the soup and tomato dish were surprisingly good as well. It's incredible how tomatoes can become clear when strained — where does that vibrant red color come from?
The melon dessert was also from the dessert course and was incredibly delicious with tea jelly, melon pieces, semifreddo, and yogurt espuma. I thought to myself, I could eat a whole bowl of this!
Then came the dish I was most eager to try, the Mango and Passionfruit Bäschler. It looked beautiful and really lifted my spirits! The ingredients were:
- Miyazaki mango panna cotta
- Passionfruit mousse
- Coconut ice cream
- Coconut meringue
- Mint jelly
- Timut pepper
It was absolutely amazing! I kept feeling overwhelmed with emotion while eating it. I wondered about the mint jelly and pepper, but every component was essential to the dish. I had always chosen savory items over sweets when at a café, but I felt like my world had opened up.
Finally, the small sweets were individually delightful, making for a happy moment. That day, the mother of the owner, who had also helped at the Marché, was present. The owner is such a cute person, and her mother is beautiful as well; both were cheerful and fun, which made my time delightful.
I was worried it might have been too forward to ask for a spot, but I'm glad I did! I’ll definitely visit again soon!
