☆Special recommendation for food: "Drinkable Genghis Khan"
This dish emphasizes freshness, serving non-frozen lamb meat cut fresh, which makes the meat's quality outstanding and incredibly delicious. The vegetables, such as Hokkaido onions, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms, absorb the fat of the Genghis Khan, enhancing their flavor.
☆Special recommendation for drink: "Genghis Khan-specific highball"
This highball is infused with ginger, resulting in a refreshing taste that pairs exceptionally well with Genghis Khan.
【Reference Information】I visited on a weekday evening. We made a reservation, but the place quickly filled up. The non-frozen lamb was incredibly tasty, changing my perception of Genghis Khan. The vegetables from Hokkaido, including onions, asparagus, and shiitake mushrooms, also tasted great after absorbing the meat's fat. The staff were friendly, and the food was served quickly, making for a very comfortable experience. I recommend visiting during happy hour, which runs from 5 PM to 6 PM, Monday through Thursday! Thank you for a lovely time!

Thank you for always checking out my posts! If you find a restaurant of interest, I'd be happy if you could save it and visit! ✨ I strive to convey the charm of these places, so I'd appreciate any follows as motivation!

I apologize for the long title! I’m a native of Hokkaido who spent my life there until high school and absolutely love lamb. I’ve finally discovered a specialty restaurant in Tokyo that serves fresh lamb and I dare say it’s even better than the Jingisukan (lamb barbecue) I had in Hokkaido (just my personal opinion).
Here are the dishes I tried:
- **Lamb Sashimi**: My first time! It's so refreshing and tender.
- **Fresh Lamb Roast**: The best I’ve ever had!
- **Fresh Mutton**: Full of flavor and powerful.
- **Kimchi**: My favorite kind, crunchy and homemade.
- **Fresh Lamb Tongue**: My first time! So plump and juicy!
- **Fresh Flank Steak**: Light and chewy, just perfect.
- **Wild Field Grilled Lamb**: Check out the pictures, it’s amazing!
- **Drinkable Jingisukan**: Yes, you can drink it!
- **Miso Corn Tsukemen**: A taste of Hokkaido all packed in.
Each dish was an emotional experience for me. While preferences vary, this place easily ranks as my top choice. If you want Jingisukan, you definitely have to go to Sangenjaya! The manager is from Kitami in Hokkaido.
They even provided bags to prevent the smell from sticking to clothing or bags. Plus, after leaving the restaurant, the staff spray us with air freshener. The service was so energetic and charming, I fell in love with it. I felt truly happy to enjoy my favorite lamb at such an affordable price, unlike beef.
If you’re craving Jingisukan, I wholeheartedly recommend Sheep Hachi! Thank you so much!!!
At around 7 PM, there were three groups waiting at this popular restaurant. I had somehow developed a preconceived notion that lamb dishes would smell quite strong, so I wasn't really excited about trying it. However, once I tasted it, especially the mutton, it was incredibly delicious. Dipping it into a light soy sauce was a game changer. What surprised me most was that even after eating quite a bit, I didn't feel heavy or weighed down like I do after beef. Thanks to this experience, I’ve come to love Jingisukan (grilled mutton). Thank you very much!

It's a narrow place, but the deliciousness of the jingisukan (grilled lamb) makes it worthwhile. I've eaten jingisukan in various places, including Sapporo, but so far, this is my favorite. Many places offer fake garlic, but here, you can find real garlic, ginger, and shichimi pepper. The meat has very little gamey flavor, which might not satisfy those who enjoy the strong taste of lamb, but I recommend the mutton for them. The staff are also very efficient and have a high level of friendliness.

I had been curious about this place for a long time, and I finally got to go! I didn't make a reservation, and when I called, they told me that same-day reservations weren't accepted. However, when I visited, they said it was okay to come in as long as there were no reservations, so they were able to seat me within an hour! The taste and service were both excellent! I will definitely go back!

I don't often get the chance to eat jingisukan, but I went based on a friend's recommendation. The meat had no unpleasant smell, and it was delicious with just the right amount of fat without being heavy. Between mutton and lamb, I personally found lamb to be more tender and my favorite.

Please note that same-day reservations are not available. We arrived at the restaurant at 7:00 PM and were able to enter right away! The restaurant is quite smoky, so be prepared to wear clothes that you don't mind getting a bit of an odor. There are 45-liter bags at the table for placing your clothes and bags.
To start, we ordered the Jingisukan set (mutton roast and vegetables) which included onion, lotus root, eggplant, and potato for 1,350 yen. There were two pieces each of the lotus root and eggplant, which was great for a starter kit!
Next, we tried the lamb tongue for 1,180 yen. It's rare to find lamb tongue, and the size here was impressive! It hardly had any gamey smell and was incredibly tender and delicious!
We also had lamb sashimi for 1,200 yen, which I highly recommend! If you weren’t told it was lamb, you might not even guess. It was fresh and very tender, easy to bite into! Eating it with the sauce and egg yolk was heavenly!
The salt-flavored harami (skirt steak) was 1,380 yen and the tarako butter rice was 550 yen. The rice was good but could probably stand alone without the other dishes!
Lastly, we ordered lamb roast for 850 yen. In the end, the standard option turned out to be the best! After trying various dishes the first time, I think focusing on lamb roast in subsequent visits might be a good idea. It’s fantastic to enjoy such delicious lamb at reasonable prices!

The drinkable genghis khan and mutton were absolutely delicious. I didn't really enjoy the lamb, potatoes, and lean cuts much; they didn't offer much in terms of portion size and felt a bit overpriced. Next time, I might just stick with the mutton and drinkable genghis khan. It costs about 4,000 yen per person. The atmosphere is exactly like Sapporo, which I really like.

I entered the restaurant during dinner time on a holiday. I didn't have a reservation, but luckily I was able to get a table. The interior was mostly full of reserved guests, so I recommend making a reservation. It seems that you cannot make a reservation on the same day. I ordered a variety of dishes including lamb, mutton, lean cuts, and tongue, and each one was fresh and delicious. The sauces can be customized with condiments, and adding garlic or chili powder lets you enjoy a change in flavor. They are already very tasty on their own. Personally, I recommend the lamb and mutton as they're quintessential for Jingisukan (grilled lamb dish). Although they have a good amount of fat, they feel quite light when eating. However, a bit disappointing was that the place was too crowded, making it quite noisy, so it didn't feel like a relaxed dining experience. The atmosphere is more akin to a pub, focusing on eating and drinking, which felt a bit wasted given how delicious the food was.

This is a famous restaurant where you can enjoy fresh lamb and lamb barbecue! For an additional 300 yen (if I remember correctly), you can upgrade your drinks to a mega size, which is very reasonable. I had both lamb and mutton, and the lamb was tender and had no gamey taste, making it easy to eat. The mutton, on the other hand, had a rich flavor that was reminiscent of steak. Both were delicious. I finished off with the "sougen yaki," which is a fantastic dish featuring lamb and shungiku (chrysanthemum leaves) cooked with the oil from the grilled meat and a special sauce! Although I said I was finishing up, it was so delicious that it sparked my appetite, and I ended up ordering the miso butter corn dipping noodles as well, haha!

■ Genghis Khan Yaki Hachi Sangenjaya is one of the top 3 Genghis Khan spots! Zero odor, super fresh meat that has never been frozen. @youhachi_sangenchaya Address: 2-14-1 Sangenjaya, Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, 1F Sancha Dining Building Business Hours: Monday to Friday, and day before and after holidays 17:00 - 00:00; Saturday, Sunday, and holidays 12:00 - 15:00 / 17:00 - 23:59 Phone: 03-6303-2728
We went to Yaki Hachi with six people craving Genghis Khan. This restaurant has been popular without a moment's respite since my time living in Sangenjaya, and it’s hard to get a table without a reservation, so this was my first experience here. The decor is simple, with about 30 seats and backless round chairs, reminiscent of a restaurant in Hokkaido. With all of us keen eaters present, our goal was to try every item on the menu.
**Raw Lamb Yukke:** A dish that absolutely requires freshness, and Yaki Hachi delivers.
**Lamb Loin:** This is a basic cut of lamb, and it has no smell at all. The tenderness of meat that has never been frozen is truly impressive.
**Mutton Loin:** The unique characteristics vary by restaurant for mutton over two years old, but the distinct odor of mutton is absent, leaving only the concentrated good flavor of lamb.
**Lamb Lean Meat:** Zero fat content, this is perfect for fitness enthusiasts as it’s purely muscle.
**Salted Lamb Belly:** Offers a wonderful chewiness and perfect texture – absolutely delicious.
**Lamb with Spring Greens:** Lamb surrounded by shungiku (spring greens) grilled with butter and salt sauce. Eating the lamb combined with the greens soaked in lamb fat and butter is incredibly tasty; visually and flavor-wise, this is a highly recommended dish.
**Drinkable Genghis Khan:** Super thinly sliced meat quickly grilled and served over raw egg on rice. It definitely qualifies as a 'drinkable' option!
**Lamb Sausages:** Many lamb sausages tend to be overly smelly, but these are packed with flavor that completely changed my previous preconceived notions.
These three dishes are a must-try! The portions aren’t huge, so I suggest that if you go with three or more people, order one of each to share.
**Battered Corn, Ume Shiso Cold Noodles, and Yaki Hachi Curry** – all delicious!
With truly fresh and amazing Genghis Khan, there’s a trade-off: your clothes will smell like lamb. Many patrons take the train back, so prepare yourself for that. While the restaurant offers Febreze, it’s unlikely to be enough, so it's a good idea to bring your own from the convenience store!

Both lamb loin and mutton loin are delicious. The fact that they are served without being soaked in sauce is highly appreciated. From the same perspective, the red meat is also tasty. It is seasoned with rock salt and pepper, but that's not an issue. Of course, there is the unique smell of lamb, but it is hardly noticeable. One could say the meat quality is good. On the other hand, the lamb tongue is seasoned with a salty marinade that has a somewhat chemical seasoning scent, so I recommend skipping that if you're sensitive to it. They suggest mixing garlic, ginger, shichimi (Japanese seven-spice), and sesame into the dipping sauce, but I recommend using shichimi as it provides a great accent against the richness of the lamb fat. As for garlic, it's best to keep it mild and use more ginger. Other side menu items were not very appealing, and from what I observed around, many seemed to lack good cost performance, perhaps aiming for visual appeal. The vegetable lineup is a bit unique, including onion, lotus root, eggplant, and Kita Akari (a type of potato). I might recommend adding bean sprouts. The fat that comes to the table is beef fat, not lamb fat. I wonder if this is normal. Since I'm not too knowledgeable about jingisukan (grilled lamb), I'm not sure. Payment should be possible with a card, but I couldn't use mine due to some issues, so be cautious. I think it’s best to enter during the first round. As is common in barbecue places, they provide plastic bags to prevent odors and grease from flying around, but they are reused in the second round and onward. Bringing your own bag is also an option.

The lamb and mutton were incredibly fresh and had no strong odor at all! I could eat this forever. The grassland grill with spring greens and butter made the lamb refreshing and delicious! It's rare to find a place where they grill for you and explain everything—this restaurant provided such attentive service. It was my first time trying "drinking jingisukan," and even though it’s semi-raw, the lamb was odorless, combined with the egg and rice, creating a perfect trio that couldn’t possibly taste bad! It's addicting. I ordered the ramen as a closing dish after being recommended, and I’m so glad I did!!! Both the broth and noodles were amazing! This is definitely something I should order every time! It’s a place with high satisfaction! ❣️
