Travel in Hokkaido. Night in Hakodate. Started with a drink at a sushi restaurant feeling good. It's still early, so let's go to the second place. Hakodate Dock Station, the terminal station of the Hakodate Streetcar Main Line. There was a shop that caught my eye when I was riding the Hakodate Streetcar the day before. The shop is located just a short walk from Hakodate Dock Station. It feels like the ground floor of a house. It has a fairly old atmosphere, which caught my attention. The interior of the shop is quite spacious. It feels more like an izakaya than a sushi restaurant. There are counter seats and tatami seats. I was seated at the counter as a solo guest. I looked at the menu. Since I had already eaten a bit, I was looking for a light menu and found the perfect option - the Evening Set (1800 yen). It includes an appetizer, sashimi, sushi, and a drink. I ordered a draft beer with it. The appetizer was squid and leek nuta. It had a strong flavor, perfect for drinking. The sashimi included tuna, salmon, and mackerel. The mackerel was quite well marinated. The sushi consisted of tuna, mackerel, squid, and salmon, totaling 5 pieces. It overlapped a bit with the sashimi, but considering the price, it was decent. I switched to sake halfway through. I tried a sake from Okushiri Island. The shop was run by one chef. He had a great sense of hospitality, creating a cozy and friendly atmosphere, perfect for leisurely drinking. It has the atmosphere of a casual izakaya but also serves sushi. It's reasonably priced and seems to be a convenient place to visit. It may not be a typical tourist spot, but personally, I really like this place.

I visited Hokkai in Bentencho, Hakodate City. I went there on a weekday afternoon. I was the only customer. I ordered the lunch sushi set for 1,000 yen. The local Hokkigai, buri, and squid were especially delicious. There is parking space for two cars.

Reasonably priced and delicious restaurant. The master, who is a living dictionary of Hakodate, was incredibly entertaining. The stories about the thriving Hakodate during the shipbuilding era were very educational. The sushi, made quickly and skillfully, was excellent.

I visited Sushi Izakaya Hokkai near the Hakodate Dock tram stop. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant. When you enter, you can feel the atmosphere of a sushi restaurant. There are counter seats on the left and tatami seating on the right. This time, I had a 10-piece nigiri set, which came with salad and miso soup. The sushi pieces were thick and the price was comparable to conveyor belt sushi. The chef was friendly and provided excellent service. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant.

I went to a sushi izakaya called "Hokkai" on this day. The location is right near the tram stop "Hakodate Dock-mae". When I arrived at 11:06, I noticed that the shop was not open yet. Since it is rare for shops in Hakodate to open right on time, I decided to wait at a nearby convenience store. I went back before 11:30 and saw the lunch sign was out. I was the first customer of the day and sat at the counter seat. The interior of the restaurant was surprisingly spacious with a large raised seating area. I ordered the "10-piece nigiri" and a "draft beer" from the lunch menu. The draft beer, Kirin Ichiban, arrived quickly. As I drank and waited, the salad was served and the master, who was friendly and talkative, started making the nigiri in front of me. Soon after, the 10-piece nigiri and miso soup arrived. Everything was delicious, especially the tuna and scallop. The miso soup had a strong shrimp flavor and was tasty. I was very satisfied with the quality of the meal for only ¥900! I am looking forward to trying the evening drinking set next time I visit in the evening.

It's delicious. It's cheap. The rice portion is small. It's sushi with a small rice ball and easy to eat with the topping. The tuna has a slight acidity that I like. Thank you for the meal, haha.

The friendly owner skillfully prepares the sushi. They have been in business for 54 years. There are two parking spaces next to the shop. For 10 pieces of sushi, miso soup, and salad, it's a great deal at 900 yen.

I got off at the last stop "Hakodate Dock-mae" by streetcar. It was lunchtime and there were few dining options, so I had limited choices. Luckily, I found a restaurant that was serving lunch, with only one other customer present. It was a sushi izakaya, and although they had sushi, I decided to go with the "Nama Chirashi Don" (raw seafood bowl). It came with miso soup made with shrimp broth and a side salad. The bowl looked like the photo, with kazunoko (herring roe) included. The cucumber was a bit lacking, but overall, the seafood was fresh compared to what you might find in a typical lunch seafood bowl in Tokyo. I would like to come back for dinner sometime, as they seem to have a good evening menu. I wonder if they don't get many tourists here? I had a pleasant conversation with the other customer and the chef while enjoying my lunch. It's a great restaurant.

The restaurant is located a little back from the last stop of the Hakodate streetcar, just two doors down from the "Tenoji Sushi" that I visited before. The sushi starts at 1000 yen for a regular set and goes up to 2500 yen for a super deluxe set, so it's quite affordable. I ordered the special deluxe set for 2000 yen, which included scallop, tuna, sea urchin, salmon roe, shirako, squid, shrimp, crab, salmon, and yellowtail, totaling 10 pieces. The squid was firm, the tuna had a nice red color and was delicious, and the crab meat was large and good. The miso soup also had a great shrimp broth and was tasty. I would like to come back next time for the sushi lunch. While chatting with the chef about local sushi restaurants, he mentioned that "Bina Aji" in Suehirocho is run by his son, so I became interested and decided to visit "Bina Aji" as well.

Recommended by a colleague from work, my wife and I decided to visit this cozy little restaurant for a casual evening drink. The friendly owner greeted us warmly as we took our seats at the counter. The atmosphere was laid-back, with only three other customers at the counter. We ordered shochu and umeshu with hot water, along with some sashimi as our first round of dishes. The owner, who was running the place by himself that day, was efficient and quick despite the presence of other customers. It's hard to believe that he has been running this place for 50 years since he was 24 years old...wait, that means he's 76 years old?! He looked much younger with his smooth skin, quick movements, and lively demeanor. The restaurant used to be a sushi place before turning into an izakaya two years ago. The recommended dish, fried oysters, was incredibly delicious, with a rich flavor that my wife and I couldn't stop praising. And then came the highlight of the meal - the "gindara" (sablefish) that was incredibly tender and flavorful. My wife couldn't stop wondering how they managed to cook it so perfectly. From the sashimi to the fried dishes to the sushi, every dish left us satisfied and impressed. We were also charmed by the owner's cheerful personality. It turns out his son is a renowned chef at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Hakodate, which explains the exceptional quality of the food. Considering the delicious food and the warm hospitality, we felt that the prices were quite reasonable. The restaurant is conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from the tram station. We will definitely be visiting again.

I went to a sushi restaurant for lunch yesterday. It was a small place with about 7 seats at the counter and 4 tables in the tatami area. I ordered the lunch set which came with tea, salad, miso soup with shrimp, and a plate of 10 pieces of sushi. The wasabi was a bit strong, maybe because it's summer. The quality of the fish was good, and the price was surprisingly cheap at only 800 yen. I will definitely go back for lunch again.

I discovered this place about two months ago when I had lunch here. I had miso soup, salad, and 10 pieces of sushi for 800 yen. The sushi was really good, with a variety of toppings like salmon, tuna, shrimp, and ikura. It was a great deal! So, I decided to come back for dinner this time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice, so I thought dinner would be a hit too. There are counter seats and tatami seats, and both offer a great view of the restaurant. At night, you can enjoy delicious sushi at a reasonable price. The chirashi bowl was around 1000 yen and they have a good selection of shochu and other drinks. The staff are friendly and the menu offers a variety of options besides sushi. I highly recommend trying the miso soup with shrimp, it's delicious. The simmered hokke fish was also amazing, I had never tasted anything like it. The scallop butter and grilled scallops were also impressive. Even though I'm not a fan of scallops, I really enjoyed these ones. The way they cook the dishes here is really skillful. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. Thank you!
