I will visit Otaru on my day off, with no special reason, just to eat and drink with my wife. For lunch, we went to "Kaiten Sushi Uzushio Takashima Store," a sushi restaurant operated by the famous "Naruto" half-fried fish. There were two groups of four customers ahead of us, with about 10 counter seats and five table seats. There were 3-4 young and old female staff members on the floor, and 2-3 staff members in the kitchen, which was not clearly visible. We sat at the counter and made tea in a hot water pot. The conveyor belt was moving, but instead of sushi, menu cards were rotating. We ordered the "Uzushio Set @1,500," "Shime Nishin @216, Anago Nigiri @486, Maguro Nigiri (Akami, Chutoro, Negitoro) @486, Grilled Squid @216, Grilled Tsubu @216, Shellfish Assortment (Akagai, Hokkigai, Hotate) @421, Engawa @216, Shime Saba @270." The "Uzushio Set" included "7 pieces of sushi (Akami, Whitefish, Hotate, Salmon, Tsubu, Kojika, Shrimp), 2 pieces of fried chicken, miso soup with rock seaweed, chawanmushi." The sushi in the set lacked enthusiasm and freshness, and the fried chicken was crispy, hot, and juicy, as expected from their specialty. The miso soup with rock seaweed had a good flavor. The highlight was the "Anago"... thick and boneless, tender, with a strong saltiness from the skin, which was within an acceptable range. The Engawa was also delicious. The Tsubu was a bit disappointing, not what I had imagined from a festival food stall. The "Shime Nishin" had a bad freshness, with a hint of odor. This rotating sushi restaurant gave the impression of being run by a business from a different industry, as a side project. I have been visiting major rotating sushi restaurants recently, and I couldn't help but compare the content. Coming to this restaurant made me realize the greatness of modern rotating sushi restaurants. Lastly, visiting a sushi restaurant in Otaru at this time of year without "Shako" felt a bit lonely. Thank you for the meal.
