Last year, I had heard about "dodora" and had always wanted to try it someday. Finally, I had the chance to ride my bike past the shop and decided to stop by. The shop sells them for ¥200 each, which seemed a bit cheaper than I had seen elsewhere. I bought two and brought them home to enjoy with some coffee. The dodora had a thick layer of sweet bean paste and was quite different from other sweets. It's a type of dorayaki, but it doesn't really taste like one. When I tried it, it had a subtly sweet flavor, not overwhelmingly sugary. It was actually quite nice. If it had been too sweet, it would have been difficult to finish. I could also taste the deliciousness of the red beans, and if it's always available for ¥200, I might want to eat it regularly.

On this day, I went to the food and Japanese-Western confectionery floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store. I couldn't find the Japanese confectionery I was looking for, so I stopped by "Famous Brand Japanese Flavors" on the same floor and came across a dorayaki called "Dodora." Personally, dorayaki is a snack that I find it hard to distinguish differences in taste and quality no matter where I buy it. However, this time, the dorayaki "Dodora" (270 yen including tax) exceeded my expectations with a satisfying taste. It uses Hokkaido red beans for the filling, and the flavor of the dough is enhanced by ingredients such as sugar, water candy, and honey listed on the label. The size is small, but it is filled with plenty of red bean paste. It was more satisfying than the ordinary dorayaki you can buy at supermarkets. The manufacturer "Wakasaya Honpo" was new to me, so I decided to look it up and found out that it is a long-established store from Hokkaido founded in 1919. In addition to "Dodora," their representative sweets include sweet potato snacks called "Imo Aji." I would like to try it if I come across it at Hankyu or somewhere else.

This is a long-established confectionery shop in Sapporo, founded in 1919. I tried their Hokkaido Butter Rich, a confectionery that sandwiches rum-soaked raisins mixed with cream between cookies. I really like this kind of treat. The crispy cookie, rich buttercream, and the aroma and flavor of rum raisins are all very good. It was delicious.

Footprint Leaving Squad Anywhere "Jaga Butter Sweet Potato" uses Hokkaido-grown Inca no Mezame and fermented butter. Inca no Mezame is sweet and delicious, right? I was surprised by the deliciousness of the Jaga Butter. Well, the price at that izakaya was also surprising (;^_^) A cup of sweet potato that you eat with a spoon. It was moist and had a sophisticated taste like cheesecake (?)

One of the classic souvenirs from Hokkaido is the butter sand from Rokkatei. A more affordable option similar to the butter sand is the "Butter Rich" for 842 yen. It features moist cookie dough with raisin butter that has a hint of rum flavor. The cookie dough is likely made with shortening. It can be considered as a budget version of the original butter sand.

"Wakasaya Honpo" has truly stopped its activities. I have stopped engaging in activities just for the sake of being active. Although I can't give up on Tabelog, if I find it, I will pick it up. It was just to pass the time when I entered the supermarket in Shari, but I doubt anyone besides someone who uses Tabelog would seek entertainment in a supermarket. I can't seem to shake that habit. So, I end up finding it. I immediately check the back of the package for snacks and search for them. That's how I end up adding items to my basket. I won't buy anything that I have to register myself. I won't do anything troublesome anymore. "Wakasaya Honpo" was there, in Sapporo. I will gladly write about places in Hokkaido. I need to eat it quickly before it gets buried, so I open it right away. It's breakfast... Eating dorayaki in the morning? When I used to eat ramen every morning since I was young, eating dorayaki in the morning seems like nothing. The branding is quite nostalgic. The texture of the dough has changed. It's not moist like before. It's not too dry, but it's not soft either. The filling is sweet, but overall it's delicious. The dough is thick, and it's more like a dorayaki that focuses on the dough. It's a bit different, but I can't explain it well.

In the family tree, there is a connection to "Wakasaimo" with "Wakasaya Honpo" shop. For more details, please refer to the review by "Eating Too Much, Getting Fat" at https://tabelog.com/hokkaido/A0101/A010204/1044078/dtlrvwlst/B92934470/?use_type=0&smp=1. Although the product names are different, there are similar items to "Wakasaimo" called "Imo flavor" being sold, but the taste is completely different from "Wakasaimo" and the price is only 50 yen each, which is a bargain factory direct sales price. The sales are conducted at "Kasho Okina" on the premises, and there is no direct sales outlet at the headquarters. It may be a bit unsatisfactory to have two separate registrations... I purchased items like the ones in the photo, and they are all of good quality, priced at about half the market price. If you like this type of snack, I recommend visiting at least once. It's a 7-minute walk from Subway Miyanosawa Station, crossing the Shinmichi road. Even with transportation costs, I think it's worth it. Thank you for the meal.

I received a sweet potato souvenir. The design of the box is cute and makes you think it must be delicious. The package says "Made with Hokkaido fermented butter, and Hokkaido red beans," which is like a guarantee of deliciousness. Just the sweet potato paste and fermented butter sound delicious enough. Having a cup of coffee while enjoying it. Mmm, it's good as I thought!

Near the Miyanozawa subway station in April 2021, there is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop called Jalan, established in Taisho 8. I visited after seeing it on the website and was able to purchase freshly fried sweet potatoes and discounted B-grade items on the same day. The store offers great deals on all items, such as 30 yen for a hot spring manju and 200 yen for a bag of dorayaki skins. I bought a bag of self-packed fried sweet potatoes for 30 yen. Although I missed out on getting piping hot ones, they were still delicious at room temperature. I felt that they were tastier than the ones you wait in line for at a regular store! Thank you for the meal!

I had this snack at home, which was placed on the Buddhist altar. It looks similar to a sweet potato but it is fried and has a completely different texture when eaten. It is very sweet and has a salty skin when you break it. It has a unique taste that I quite like. It mimics the fibers of a sweet potato but you can tell it's not real sweet potato fibers. It has a rural snack feel to it, but it's quite delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This is a confectionery manufacturer founded in 1919 in Hokkaido. Their signature product is "Imo flavor", but this time I bought "Sweet Potato". It is made with Hokkaido fermented butter, and the dough is kneaded with Tokachi red beans. It is baked moist and the red beans are a nice accent.

I tried the "Jagabata Sweet Potato" from Wakasaya Honpo. According to their website, it is made with Hokkaido potatoes and Hokkaido fermented butter. This sweet potato has a very moist and soft texture, with a rich flavor of fermented butter that sets it apart from other sweet potatoes I have tried. It reminded me of a financier cake. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it as a gift due to its individual packaging and long shelf life of about 2 months. I would love to try it again if given the chance.

I'm happy that this product can be brought as a souvenir at room temperature, unlike Rokkatei's butter sandwich. It has become a staple Hokkaido confectionery, so I highly recommend buying it!

When it comes to Hokkaido butter-rich raisin sandwiches, Rokkatei is famous. I tried this for the first time. The package is red and has a somewhat Chinese feel to it. It was also available at the Hokkaido product exhibition. The taste is moist and light, with a buttery richness but not much flavor. The texture of the raisins is there, but the flavor is lacking. I still think Rokkatei's raisin sandwich is the best.

I bought a dorayaki from Wakasaya Honpo at New Chitose Airport for 246 yen. It was filled with plenty of red bean paste, and although the website says they have reduced the sweetness of the filling, I found it to be a bit on the sweeter side. The pancake part of the dorayaki was thin, but I prefer it to be a bit more moist.

Today, I had the opportunity to purchase the "3 o'clock snack set" from this confectionery shop. It's convenient because it includes a variety of sweets without having to choose. It's from the long-established "Wakasaya Honpo" in Sapporo, so it's delicious.

My husband bought one of the souvenirs from his company trip to Hokkaido on November 4, 2022. "Imo flavor" was not my requested item, but he bought it on the recommendation of a local. When I first tried it, I was confused by the taste - "What is this? (Sweet? Not sweet? Which is it?)" But gradually, its mysterious deliciousness grew on me and became addictive. Despite their small size, they have a satisfying texture, so after eating 2-3 pieces, I felt content. I thought that "Imo flavor" would make a great souvenir from Hokkaido that I would be happy to give or receive. It costs 798 yen + tax at Kashizaki Shoten.

In May of the fourth year, I found "Butter Rich 2 pieces (216 yen)" at the drugstore's snack section. I brought it home and tried one while drinking my favorite coffee. The cookie had a moist texture, followed by a subtly sweet butter with white chocolate and soft raisins that provided a pleasant chewiness. It was delicious and perfect to enjoy with coffee or tea, or as a snack when feeling peckish. If you have the chance, I recommend trying "Butter Rich". Thank you for the meal.

Blog ⇒ [Riding on the Flowing Clouds♪] On August 25th, the government decided to expand the state of emergency and priority measures to prevent the spread in response to the new coronavirus infection at the COVID-19 Countermeasures Headquarters. - The following 8 prefectures were added to the areas subject to the state of emergency: Hokkaido, Miyagi, Gifu, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Okayama, Hiroshima - The already designated 13 prefectures are: Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Shizuoka, Hyogo, Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Okinawa - The following 4 prefectures were added to the areas subject to priority measures to prevent the spread: Kochi, Saga, Nagasaki, Miyazaki - The already designated 8 prefectures are: Fukushima, Yamanashi, Toyama, Ishikawa, Kagawa, Ehime, Kumamoto, Kagoshima * All measures are in effect until September 12th A total of 33 prefectures have been included, which is more than two-thirds of the total 47 prefectures. Is the reason for not issuing a nationwide state of emergency due to financial concerns? Surely they wouldn't say that their heads are too full with election matters, right? The government's response to the new coronavirus has been a series of failures, and day by day, the strength and spirit of the people are being slowly drained. No, not just strength, but even lives are being taken away. The country does not offer any help in this abnormal situation. Criticism seems to be endless. We need to take serious measures now! If we continue like this, we will face economic collapse. The travel and restaurant industries are already on the verge of collapse. If the country doesn't help, then we must help each other... There is no other way. Therefore, as much as circumstances allow and as long as our strength holds, we must actively support restaurants more than ever. But this time, I will support by eating in a slightly different way. While in Hyogo Prefecture, I will enjoy delicious food from Hokkaido! I found a Hokkaido Fair being held at the Co-op I visited for shopping. The variety of products there was as good as at a fair held in an event hall! The wide range of products was impressive for a supermarket (^v ^。) From there, I purchased "Butter Rich" from "Wakasaya Honpo" for 750 yen! Wait, haven't I seen this somewhere before... (←pretending) Well, it looks just like "Marusei Butter Sand" from "Rokkatei"! While Rokkatei is famous, Wakasaya Honpo actually has a longer history. Established in 1919, they have over 100 years of history as a confectionery shop. You can feel that history or a deep taste that touches the heart when you eat it. The packaging is colorful but feels familiar and comforting. The nostalgic naming of "Butter Rich" is also great! (^^)/ In any case, once you taste it, you'll understand that it's a universally loved treat...

I found a snack from Wakasaya called "Hokkaido Butter Rich" at my usual supermarket, Komodiiida. I missed buying it during the last Hokkaido sale, so this time I got it without hesitation. Similar snacks like R-tei's M Sand and Oken's R exist, but the butter cream here has a slight brown color with the aroma of Western liquor. The taste is not too sweet and delicious. It's less than 1,000 yen for 8 pieces, making it a great price for souvenirs from the region. The raisins are soft, and despite the aroma of liquor, the flavor is not too strong, making it easy for anyone to enjoy. The cookie sandwich is soft and doesn't crumble or break into small pieces when bitten into. The individual packaging is easy to open, which is also nice. I have been trying various raisin butter sandwiches, but I personally liked this Butter Rich. If I come across it at an event nearby, I would love to buy it again. While it's hard to travel these days, it's fun and exciting to be able to enjoy Hokkaido snacks while in Tokyo. Thank you for the meal.
