During my first visit to the Michikawa Station in October 2016, I found some delicious tofu on display, so I decided to stop by. It was a new tofu shop called "Momen Tofu" priced at 200 yen at the roadside station. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it contains a solid 400 grams and is made from 100% Hokkaido soybeans, so the price is understandable. Personally, I prefer firmer tofu like "Momen" which has a rich soybean flavor and tastes great even when added to hot pot. The "Oage" tofu, priced at 130 yen, is thinner and more ordinary, suitable for miso soup or mixed rice. Tofu shops used to be found in every town, but they are slowly disappearing due to competition from supermarkets. We should support local tofu shops that make delicious tofu.
