It seems to be one of the popular soba restaurants in Hakodate, judging by my first visit in September 2019. The city has a rich history, and it seems that there are many soba restaurants with a long history as well, as indicated by the building of this particular restaurant. Looking at the menu, prices are quite affordable with items like "Mori Soba" for 530 yen and "Tenzaru" for 1300 yen. Only two items, "Tenzaru" and "Extra Large Shrimp Tempura Soba," are priced over 1000 yen, making it a restaurant catering to the general public with its affordable prices. The menu is quite extensive, with over 30 soba options including both hot and cold varieties. While there are no particularly unique items, dishes like "Katsu Curry Soba" may be considered relatively rare. I was curious about some of the rice dishes, such as the "Dango Set Meal" and the "Iwanori Bento Set." For this visit, I ordered the "Cold Zaru Soba," as I often do when visiting a new soba restaurant. The price for the "Cold Zaru Soba" here is 750 yen, which is 220 yen more than the "Mori Soba." The toppings included tempura scraps, kamaboko, thin omelette, finely sliced cucumber, and chopped nori, which was decent. Personally, I consider a 50 yen increase per topping as a fair standard, with tempura scraps typically costing 50 yen. This restaurant charges 220 yen for five toppings, which I believe is reasonable. However, the quality of the toppings was disappointing. The tempura scraps were not crispy and were rather tough, while the kamaboko slices were too thick, giving a mediocre impression. These factors led to a deduction of 0.5 points in the taste evaluation. On the other hand, the lack of providing soba broth was the main negative aspect in terms of service. Despite waiting after finishing my meal, there was no indication that soba broth would be served, suggesting that this restaurant may not offer it with their zaru soba. If it were nearby, I would consider revisiting this restaurant, but for a trip to Hakodate specifically, I would like to try other restaurants next time.
