I waited for about 5 minutes at 12:25 on a regular day. I used the "Tabelog Wagashi and Amami-dokoro WEST Top 100 Stores 2023" located in a alley about a 3-minute walk from the subway "Kitahama Station". It is a renowned shop selected as the 4th best in the Kansai region in the "Magic Restaurant: Sweets Ranking by Food Professionals in Kansai, Kyoto, and Kobe" broadcasted in August 2023. Established in 1830 (Bunsei 13), the shop has a retro atmosphere as if it has slipped back to the Showa era, with a total of 12 seats. The shop is run by one person in the kitchen and one person in customer service, showing the management style of a long-established store. This time, I ordered the "Korean Rice Cake for 800 yen". Here is the content and evaluation. [◎, ○, △] Korean Rice Cake 8th generation - a refined taste inspired by Ise's famous Akafuku mochi Matcha bean paste ◎◎ Gabeeenmamamaiwoo! The perfect matcha flavor! Red bean paste ◎◎ This is the essence of sweetness White bean paste ◎◎ This has an elegant sweetness Chunky red bean paste ◎ The red bean paste melts in the mouth Sesame bean paste ◎ The sesame adds a nice touch Green tea ◎ Served at the right temperature, it has a slightly astringent and deep flavor that goes perfectly with the Korean rice cake! There is no background music. The customers are regulars, solo diners, and veteran female groups. The occupancy rate is about 80%. The female ratio is about 70%. The Tabelog rating at the time of the visit is 3.66. The vintage interior is charming. The natural service typical of a long-established store is a plus. It was a timeless top 100 store in Osaka loved by people of all ages and genders. Thank you for the meal!

I think that most customers here are getting takeout of Korean rice cakes, and I have never encountered any other type of customer. However, I decided to dine in. I tried three different seasonal sweets: Korean rice cake ice zenzai, yam moon cakes, and another type of sweet. The Korean rice cake ice zenzai had a subtle sweetness with the quality of the red beans dominating the flavor. On the other hand, the Korean rice cake was quite sweet. As for the sweets, they were just okay compared to the many top-notch shops in the Kyoto-Osaka area.

I found this shop that sells delicious Japanese sweets. Even though I used a map app to get there, I somehow kept passing by without noticing the shop. When I finally entered, the friendly staff guided me to a seat. I mentioned it was my first time there, and they explained the menu to me in detail. I ordered the shaved ice dessert and the assorted rice cakes. The shaved ice dessert was refreshing and cool, perfect for the hot weather. The rice cakes came in five flavors - red bean paste, sweet bean paste, white bean paste, sesame, and matcha. They had a sophisticated level of sweetness that I really enjoyed. The rice cakes were served with tea, which was a nice touch. I would love to visit this shop again.

Today was the day for exploring cafes in Osaka, and my friend Kikujudo Yoshinobu planned out the tour schedule for us! When we looked at the map, we arrived at the location... but wait, where's the cafe!? There were no signs or curtains outside. You could faintly see a light shining from inside. I gently opened the sliding door and found a cozy space with 3 tables and 12 seats. Two tables were already occupied. After informing them that we didn't have a reservation but wanted to dine in, they kindly guided us to the third table. It seems that the cafe was featured on TV, as there were constant customers coming in to buy traditional Japanese sweets. The popular item was the "Korean Rice Cake" that was showcased, but we decided to try the "Uji Kinato" shaved ice. It was priced at ¥750 and was a refined treat with plenty of sweet red bean paste inside and a delicate sprinkle of matcha on top. The matcha wasn't too bitter, and it paired perfectly with the red bean paste. It was a delightful treat that I wish I could have every day. Even though it was scorching hot outside, we were so absorbed in eating that we didn't notice the warm tea that was served on the side, which was comforting. If it was our last day, I would have loved to buy some traditional Japanese confections as well. Apparently, it's best to make a reservation for them, but if they have any available, they will gladly sell them to you right away. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I took a day off on a weekday, so I decided to make the most of it by visiting the café around 11 am on Friday. I tried their famous Korean rice cake and cold sweet red bean soup. The Korean rice cake was not too sweet and very easy to eat. I'm usually not a fan of sweet red bean soup, but the cold version here was surprisingly delicious. The café has only two table seats, with the rest being for takeout. Many customers were coming in for takeout orders, and it seemed like there were a lot of pre-orders, so they mentioned that it might take some time. I recommend making a reservation if you plan to order takeout.

I wandered around Kitahama and finally found the shop, but it seemed closed today. I had come all this way, so I checked on social media and found out it was open. I called to ask when they would open, and they said they were open. I went inside and bought some Goryeo rice cakes. They were elegant, with five different types of light sweet red bean paste inside. They were delicious rice cakes that would go well with matcha.

There is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop in Kitahama. Since there was no signboard, I had no idea it was here. I found out about the shop on TV and decided to buy some right away. I went right when it opened so there was no line, but when I left the shop, there was already a queue forming. I recommend going early. There is also a café attached to the shop. I bought a sweet called "Mizubutton" and some red bean rice cakes. Both have a shelf life of 1-2 days. It seems they use high-quality ingredients, and the taste was excellent. Thank you for the meal.

Yodoyabashi's business district has many old and atmospheric buildings. It's enjoyable just to walk around here. However, it's too hot to walk around during the day in this season. I've always wanted to visit this shop. The shop's atmosphere is lovely. I was originally planning to get shaved ice, but I decided on the sweet red bean soup with ice instead because I prefer having whole red beans in it. The ice mixed with the sweet red bean soup was just right for the hot weather, with a mild sweetness. The three pieces of mochi were chewy and delicious. The staff at the shop spoke in a pleasant Kansai dialect, which was soft and wonderful. It was a very good shop.

A historic traditional Japanese confectionery shop with nearly 200 years of history, located in the business district. Open only on weekdays, the shop opens at 10 am, but the tea room opens at 11 am. There are three tables in the tea room, with a display case showcasing various sweets and samples of umeboshi. The menu on the wall lists items such as oshiruko, zenzai, and kouraibou, which change depending on the season. I decided to order the kouraibou, which is made fresh upon ordering and comes in five different flavors: smooth red bean paste, coarse red bean paste, white bean paste, matcha bean paste, and sesame. The unique shape of the kouraibou resembles a finger, similar to Akafuku. It has a refined sweetness and a light texture, making it easy to finish in one bite. I particularly enjoyed the rich flavor of the matcha and the fragrant sesame. The staff recommended green tea to accompany the kouraibou, as it is made with matcha. I also tried the daifuku, uguisumochi (during my February visit), and kuzumochi (during my July visit), all of which had elegant flavors. The coarse red bean paste had a crispy texture, and the aroma of the kinako on the uguisumochi was delightful. The kuzumochi had a refreshing taste perfect for summer. I also made a reservation for some sweets to take home the next day. When I returned, the seasonal sweets in the display case had changed. I purchased the kouraibou, the July sweet kuzumochi, and the August sweet, a white bean paste confection shaped like a plum. My family was delighted with the treats. The staff at the shop were very friendly, and this has become one of my favorite spots to visit whenever I'm in Osaka.

After having lunch at Mimiu, I felt like having something sweet. Therefore, I decided to try the Goryeo rice cakes at Kikujudo Yoshinobu, which is within walking distance from Honmachi. I was a bit worried about it being crowded, but luckily there was no one else there when I arrived. It's been a few years since I last had Goryeo rice cakes, and I must say, the red bean paste is delicious.

The reservation was canceled... I was planning to buy a unique banana leaf bento box for dinner at a top Asian ethnic restaurant, but they are closed irregularly and I can't reach them by phone. Let's head north to find a good sweets shop... This place has chairs and tables where you can eat in... There were no customers around 1:00 PM, so I decided to get takeout. They had interesting items like pickled plums, but I chose the red yokan with shiso leaves on top... I paid 750 yen for a piece of Korean rice cake with my phone and headed back towards Osaka Castle. I enjoyed it at home, it had 5 different types of sweet bean paste which were subtly different in texture but all equally delicious with a refined sweetness.

Kikujudo Yoshinobu in Kitahama offers Korean rice cakes for ¥750. Located in the middle of an office district, it may be easy to miss. I visited on a weekday morning and there were already a few customers. I ordered the Korean rice cakes, which come in five different fillings: white bean paste, coarse bean paste, red bean paste, matcha bean paste, and sesame bean paste. The rice cakes were beautifully presented, and I followed the recommended order of white → coarse → red → sesame → matcha. The rice cakes were on the smaller side, with the focus more on the filling than the rice cake itself. Personally, I found the white bean paste and sesame bean paste to be the most delicious. The white bean paste was elegantly sweet, while the sesame bean paste had a subtle sweetness with a rich sesame flavor. It was a comforting and calming sweetness. While I tend to gravitate towards Western sweets, after trying these traditional Japanese sweets, I may actually prefer them. If you enjoy bean paste fillings, I recommend giving them a try.

On June 16th, which is "Wagashi Day," the red bean paste lover couldn't wait and headed to a wagashi shop a day early! After a 10-minute bike ride, they arrived at "Kikusudo Yoshinobu" in Kita-ku, Osaka. This traditional wagashi shop, established in 1830, was open early with TV crew bustling inside. Although dine-in was not possible, they quickly ordered the "Korean Mochi" set with 5 different fillings. Back home, they took photos and videos for Instagram before indulging in the bite-sized mochi with various fillings. The mochi was surrounded by a generous amount of red bean paste, and the small size made it easy to enjoy the flavors without feeling too heavy. The red bean paste lover quickly devoured all 5 pieces. Delicious!

This is a very well-established shop. It was founded during the Tenpo era (1830-1844), dating back to the beginning of the Edo period! The treat I had was "Korean rice cake." It was created around 1959 with the idea of having a snack that you can eat the sweet bean paste as it is. It was named by the kabuki actor Matsumoto Koshiro VIII. There are five flavors: sesame, sweet bean paste, matcha, white bean paste, and whole bean paste. The hand-shaped appearance is very simple and charming. You can enjoy the original taste of sweet bean paste, perfect for a snack time with green tea! It was really delicious! The price is reasonable, making it a great souvenir from Osaka! Thank you for the meal.

I purchased some Korean rice cakes for 750 yen including tax. They come in various flavors like smooth red bean paste, chunky red bean paste, white bean paste, matcha bean paste, and sesame (white bean paste with ground sesame on top). The rice cakes have a beautiful shape and a refined taste. They are bite-sized and delicious. They are perfect for personal enjoyment or as a gift, and will surely be appreciated by anyone! Kikujudo Yoshinobu is the best!

Perfect for souvenirs! There are 5 different flavors, not too sweet or heavy, and I finished them all in no time. They are all delicious, but personally, I recommend the sesame flavor. The only downside is that you can only buy them on weekdays, but I definitely want to go buy them again.

I made a same-day reservation and went to pick it up in the early afternoon. There were customers both before and after me. The food was light and easy to eat. The fresh scent of matcha in the Korean rice cake was delightful. As I get older, I appreciate good quality and simple ingredients for both my mind and body.

At the Hina Matsuri event at Funabashi, I made a reservation for two "Itadaki" sets on 03/02 and visited for takeout on 03/03 at 14:30. Unfortunately, the sakura mochi that I didn't reserve was already sold out. Inside the store, there were many small candies that looked like petit tomatoes, and I wondered what they were. When I checked on Tabelog later, I found out they were called Umeboshi. I ordered two "Itadaki" sets with five different varieties, and it was a combination not shown in the pictures. The anko was light and suited my taste. Next time, I want to try eating in at the restaurant.

I visited Kikusuido in Kitahama, Osaka. It's a shop that only opens during weekdays in the daytime. When I opened the sliding door, there was no one inside. The son of the shop owner came out and explained that they are not allowing dining inside due to the pandemic. They only had "Benibume" and "Ezo Nishiki" left, as other sweets were sold out. I bought 6 pieces and brought them as a gift to a shop in Shinchi that I visited at night. "Benibume" was made with Bitchu Azuki beans, and "Ezo Nishiki" with Tanba Azuki beans. It had been a while since I last had them, and they were delicious with a mild sweetness. It's a shop that is hard to visit often, but I would like to go again. Thank you for the meal.

Located in Takarabashi in Chuo-ku, Osaka, the long-established Japanese confectionery shop "Kikujudo Yoshinobu" is famous for its "Korean mochi" which is a sweet made of mochi filled with five different types of fillings. The shop was founded during the Tenpo era (1830-1844), but it is said to have origins dating back to the beginning of the Edo period. Originally located around Shinsaibashi, the shop was relocated to its current location after being destroyed during World War II. The shop is currently run by the 17th and 18th generations who continue to make traditional sweets using old-fashioned methods. The renowned "Korean mochi" was created around 1959 by the 15th generation who wanted to offer a sweet that allows customers to taste the same red bean paste used in their products. It is said that the name was given by the kabuki actor 8th generation Matsumoto Koshiro. The fillings include smooth red bean paste, chunky red bean paste, white bean paste, matcha bean paste, and sesame bean paste. The colorful and unique shapes, with fingerprints from being hand-pressed, make them visually appealing. The shop does not have a curtain or signboard, and the number of sweets sold each day is limited, so it is not always easy to find. The shop also offers seating for about three tables, and serves shaved ice in the summer and sweet red bean soup in the winter. Apart from "Korean mochi," they also offer seasonal sweets, traditional daifuku, and a unique sweet with white bean paste wrapped in red agar with plum flavor. I purchased a box of "Korean mochi" for 750 yen, and enjoyed each filling one by one - white bean paste, smooth red bean paste, chunky red bean paste, matcha bean paste, and sesame bean paste. Each filling had its own distinct flavor and texture, ranging from mild and sweet to rich and nutty. Overall, it was a delightful experience.
