[2013.08 Let's start by tidying up seafood with shopping here] Usually I go alone to buy souvenirs for my family, but this time my family of four joined me: lol. Even though we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, we ended up buying the following lineup: striped Hokke, salted sea urchin, smoked scallops (2 types), autumn salmon delicacies (2 types), white shrimp something, crab miso, etc. As we were enthusiastically shopping, the shop lady suddenly appeared and offered us a taste of something new, which turned out to be the highlight of our shopping trip - salted scallops! They were fresh and lacked the typical ocean smell, earning them a perfect score. In any case, when it comes to seafood at Chitose Airport, this place is the go-to for us.
[2012.11 Is this the place to buy with peace of mind despite the higher prices at the airport?] When it comes to Hokkaido souvenirs, seafood cannot be left out. If you have enough time for shopping, you might consider a market or something. However, for those like me who are here on a business trip and don't have that luxury, the only option is to buy souvenirs in bulk at New Chitose Airport. While the standard priced sweets are fine, seafood can vary in freshness and quality, with prices all over the place. Even though Sato Suisan is a bit pricey, this place seems more reasonable to me. That's why I almost always buy seafood here at New Chitose Airport: lol. The must-buy items include salmon roe, available all year round, but be sure to try the new ones in autumn. Hokke, which is usually thick and recommended over the mainland's regular Hokke. Salted sea urchin, a different kind of sweetness from the disinfected uni with alum, a bit expensive but worth it if you can afford it. Smoked scallops, not the hard ones but the soft type that makes for a great appetizer. Other processed products like squid and soy sauce-marinated salmon are also worth trying. Once you start shopping, it's hard to stop, so self-control is necessary at this store: lol. And with that, this November Sapporo business trip series comes to a temporary end: lol.
