On a typical day around 10:00 PM, I was busy and hadn't eaten dinner, so tonight I am having a solo drink in Kushiro (^^)/ I wandered around the Susukino area looking for something Kushiro-like to eat, and ended up at "Ogawa Suisan" restaurant. The owner greeted me warmly and I sat at the counter. I started with a classic Hokkaido beer! The owner recommended the herring sashimi, the skewers with skin sauce (a specialty of the restaurant), as well as "zangi" and "deep-fried shrimp". All the dishes were delicious, but the skin sauce was a bit sweet, so it might be a matter of personal preference. I especially enjoyed the zangi and deep-fried shrimp (^^)/ The person next to me was having steamed oysters from Senpoushi, but I couldn't bring myself to order it alone (tears). For drinks, they offer the "Kushiro Sunset Highball", inspired by one of the world's three greatest sunsets at Kushiro Port, and the "Kushiro Kaikon Lemon Sour", made with salt harvested in Eastern Hokkaido to accentuate the freshness of lemon juice. The Kushiro Sunset Highball is a whiskey (Tris) mixed with grenadine syrup, which pairs well with Kushiro's flavors. The Kushiro Kaikon Lemon Sour is said to be slightly sweet and easy to drink, making it suitable as a drink to accompany any type of cuisine. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the owner is friendly, making it a good place for a solo or duo drink at the counter. Thank you for the meal ('◇')ゞ

The shop is small and can get very crowded at times, but depending on the time of day, it's easy to get in even by yourself. The staff and the master are friendly, so they occasionally interact with you, creating a nice and relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to that, I ended up eating too much. They gave me a little extra because the steamed oysters were a bit small, and the sashimi was fresh and delicious!

On my business trip to Kushiro this month, I went to the reliable Ogawa Suisan for dinner. I love this restaurant because the food is delicious. I ordered Kushiro Zangi and today's recommended tuna chu-toro. For drinks, I had two large jockeys of beer and a bottle of Funachu Hassen. I like to eat Zangi with Worcestershire sauce and lots of black pepper - it's the best! It goes perfectly with beer. The chu-toro was fresh, with large pieces and delicious fatty flavor. It paired well with the dry sake. Once again, I had a delicious meal. Thank you!

It's been a while since I visited Kushiro. Tonight's dinner was unplanned, so I ended up at "Ogawa Suisan." Although I had never been there before, it is related to "Kushirokko" and "Hamakko," two popular robatayaki restaurants in the city. I initially thought it might be a cheap izakaya for salarymen due to its casual appearance, but it turned out to be a nice place with delicious seafood, delicacies, and a wide variety of food and sake options. We had pork simmered in soy sauce and potato salad as appetizers, followed by herring sashimi, tuna head meat, homemade salmon kidney in soy sauce, marinated spear squid, and pork skewers with Hokkaido wasabi. Except for the tough pork skewers, everything was delicious. The total bill for tonight was 4,870 yen. I am satisfied!

Hokkaido Trip 2022 8th stop! On the 3rd day, we traveled from Obihiro to Kushiro. Since we had a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we skipped lunch and headed to Kushiro via Lake Akan. We had some time before our reservation at the desired restaurant, so we stopped by a small restaurant called "0次回利用" (Zero Jikai Riyou). The interior had a few table seats and counter seats. There is a nearby shop called "Kushirokko," which seems to be a related store (I will review Kushirokko later). They offer local specialties such as grilled tsubugai, zangi, and Kushiro grilled fish. The manager was very friendly and even talked to first-time visitors, which was very welcoming. Introverted people might find this off-putting. Depending on the time, they seem to hold interesting events, so it's worth stopping by. We tried the zangi, which came in a set of 5 pieces with a strong seasoning. The grilled tsubugai came in a set of 5 pieces, varying in size. The wasabi soy sauce dip was a nice touch, adding a spicy kick to the snack. It tasted great when paired with the flavorful zangi. The manager cheerfully bid us farewell as we headed to the next restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

[March 14, 2022] I went on a business trip to Kushiro and visited Ogawa Suisan at night. Last time, I had delicious Kushiro-style marinated salmon skin, so this time I decided to try this restaurant. I ordered 3 pieces of marinated salmon skin and herring namero. The marinated salmon skin had a very strong flavor, so I preferred the Kushiro-style one. The herring namero was excellent! I definitely want to eat it again! Thank you for the meal! ☆

I discovered this restaurant's curry on Instagram and the katsu curry looked really delicious, so I decided to visit for lunch. In front of the shop, there was an article in the local free paper introducing the Zangi Curry as their signature menu. It looked delicious too, but since I had Zangi yesterday, I stuck to my original plan and ordered the 150g Katsu Curry. It was served in about 10 minutes and the portion was huge! The curry came in a large plate filled with meat and vegetables, along with side dishes like vegetable salad, macaroni salad, and wakame soup. The curry had chunks of meat and vegetables, making it very hearty, and when combined with the katsu, it was a meaty delight. The curry was mildly spicy and easy to eat, with a rich flavor from the meat and vegetables. The katsu, made with crispy pork loin, added a sweet and savory touch to the curry. Whoever came up with the idea of katsu curry is a genius. I was completely satisfied and full after finishing the dish. The owner mentioned that due to the low number of customers because of the pandemic, they have shortened their evening business hours. I hope they continue to do their best and overcome this challenging time.

On April 24, 2021 (Saturday), we went to a restaurant that we saw in a free paper and the curry looked delicious. I ordered the Zangi Curry (1080 yen) and my wife ordered the Seafood Curry (1180 yen). The meal came with a vegetable salad, macaroni salad, and seaweed soup, and it was quite a generous portion. The curry had a rich flavor with a good balance of vegetables and meat, not too spicy. The Zangi was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, seasoned perfectly. I even tried a bit of the Seafood Curry, and it had a nice seafood flavor. Overall, we were very satisfied with the meal at this restaurant. Both the Zangi and seafood curry were delicious. Restaurants like Akebono and Ogawa Suisan really set a high standard for lunch options. Highly recommended!

Visit date: November 29, 2020 On this day, dinner was with a companion at Ogawa Suisan. We arrived around 19:20 with no customers before or after us. Our order included: - Tachi Tempura 700 yen - Mega Skewer Assortment 980 yen - Whale "Saezuri" 700 yen - Crab Fried Rice 780 yen - Assorted Sashimi 1000 yen - Rice 200 yen - Sapporo Classic Beer 550 yen - Kita no Katsu Daikai 500 yen - Oolong Tea 380 yen x2 - Cola 380 yen We were served macaroni salad and fried white fish as appetizers. The Tachi Tempura was good, especially when eaten with salt instead of the grated daikon sauce. The Mega Skewer Assortment included large pork skewers, chicken skewers, shrimp skewers, ponpochi skewers, and chicken skin skewers. The flavors were well-balanced and the quality was decent, offering good value for the price. The Whale "Saezuri" lacked sweetness in the fat and tasted a bit bland. However, we received a complimentary dish of the restaurant's signature chicken skin skewers, which were crispy and delicious. The Crab Fried Rice was generously filled with crab meat, although the texture was a bit dry. The Assorted Sashimi platter included red shrimp, medium fatty tuna, salmon, mackerel, and tsubu, with the tuna and salmon standing out as particularly tasty. To top it off, we were served a complimentary dish of simmered saury, which was slightly salty but still enjoyable. The seating at the four-person table was a bit uncomfortable for my companion due to the distance between the table and chairs. The restaurant manager was working alone during our visit but provided excellent service, making us feel very welcome. It was refreshing to find a non-smoking restaurant in Kushiro, and the manager's hospitality was truly commendable. Overall, a great dining experience at Ogawa Suisan.

This is from November. I didn't have the phone number, so I asked the staff to register it, but it still hasn't been posted. Well, I'll post it myself. I'm drinking at "Ogawa Suisan," the fourth place in Kushiro, alone. I try to avoid danger while drinking, but well, that's just an excuse. I drank at three places before coming here, so I thought I'd stop after the fourth place. I was thinking of a bar-like atmosphere, but the GO TO Eat Hokkaido voucher was used up at the third place, so I didn't care if the voucher could be used anymore. I found a place that seemed nice and just went in. It's the opposite of a bar, a place called "Ogawa Suisan." I never thought it wasn't registered. I couldn't find any information about the place. The entrance area had table seats, and two people in uniforms were chatting about work. The fourth place was sake, so I ordered "Fukushi." I thought it had gotten better, but when I tried it, it felt like I was drinking water. Not tasty at all. The set menu was cheap fish fry and a simple macaroni salad. But it was delicious. The guy I thought was the owner seemed like a staff member. He's a really nice guy. The lady was also nice. I wonder if they're still there. It's a place with a good atmosphere. I didn't mean that you can't expect good food. I was recommended the "Garlic Soy Sauce Pickles," so I tried it. They have it all year round. The taste was normal, but it was salty and made the sake go down smoothly. I was recommended the "Mefun," but it was terrible. I was impressed by how well it was recommended. I couldn't eat it after just one bite. I didn't hesitate to leave it. The two guys who came after work left, and the cleanup started. It would have been nice if they had told me a little earlier, but it's understandable since the cleanup had started and no customers were coming in. I had no choice but to leave. It felt a bit incomplete, so I thought of going to one more place, but I told myself strongly to "stop and go home." I bought beer and snacks at the convenience store and went home. Today's four places in Kushiro were good. I had a fun time drinking.

I tried to eat tsukudani at Kadoya-san, but it was full. So, I entered this slightly flashy store in front of me. I ordered a mega jug. I was recommended fried skewered skin, which was delicious as it was fried. The seafood dishes like tachipon and grilled fish were also delicious, and the person who seemed to be the manager was nice. There was also a menu for tsukudani similar to Kadoya-san, but it doesn't compare. I would like to go there again. *I don't have any photos as I used it for work.

I bought two 100g packs of Ezo abalone, which were refrigerated and had a smooth texture with no fishy smell. However, I noticed on the Rakuten Furusato tax payment site that the origin could be either Hokkaido or Russia, so I decided not to purchase it anymore. I wish they would only offer Hokkaido-produced abalone.
