During my visit back home, I made a reservation at a sushi restaurant that caught my eye in a residential area. It's near the Bibinba Hut with flashy decorations, next to the Mihara Kitashima Comprehensive Promotion Bureau. We arrived around 8 pm, and there were a few empty seats at the 5-seat counter. The owner mentioned that it's rare for the private rooms to be fully booked like today, as the counter is quite small. We started with ordering beer and some assorted sashimi. The beer, served in a large tumbler, was satisfactory in taste and temperature. There was a beautiful display of fresh fish in the case in front of the counter, which raised our expectations. The appetizers included simmered sea snail, seasoned mountain vegetables with wasabi, and marinated squid. The sea snail was tender and flavorful, the mountain vegetables had a nice spiciness, and the squid was lightly marinated. After a short wait, our sashimi platter arrived with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, surf clam, scallop, squid, and saury. The surf clam was sweet and firm, the tuna had a nice balance of lean and fatty meat, and the scallop was cut in a unique way for an interesting texture. We also tried grilled squid liver, which was fresh and didn't melt when cooked. Impressed by the quality of the sashimi, we decided to leave the nigiri selection to the chef. The nigiri included fatty tuna, yellowtail, lean tuna, surf clam, abalone, button shrimp, scallop, tamagoyaki, salmon roe, and sea urchin. The chef included some premium items in the omakase selection, like fatty tuna with wasabi on top for comparison. Everything was delicious, with the fatty tuna, sea urchin, and king crab standing out as the top three. The sushi rice was slightly less vinegary than preferred but it was still enjoyable. We had three rounds of drinks each and the total bill came out to 7,500 yen per person. Considering the quality and quantity of the dishes, the price was reasonable and competitive with famous sushi restaurants in Hakodate. The only downside is that the location might be a bit inconvenient to access, but we had a great experience enjoying affordable and delicious sushi.
