The chef at this restaurant is from the famous Reimon Sushi. When you leave it up to him, he sometimes serves dishes that are also available at Reimon Sushi. The chef is good at communicating, so you can have a fun time. I tried the live squid sushi for the first time and it was very delicious.

During my visit back home, I made a reservation at a sushi restaurant that caught my eye in a residential area. It's near the Bibinba Hut with flashy decorations, next to the Mihara Kitashima Comprehensive Promotion Bureau. We arrived around 8 pm, and there were a few empty seats at the 5-seat counter. The owner mentioned that it's rare for the private rooms to be fully booked like today, as the counter is quite small. We started with ordering beer and some assorted sashimi. The beer, served in a large tumbler, was satisfactory in taste and temperature. There was a beautiful display of fresh fish in the case in front of the counter, which raised our expectations. The appetizers included simmered sea snail, seasoned mountain vegetables with wasabi, and marinated squid. The sea snail was tender and flavorful, the mountain vegetables had a nice spiciness, and the squid was lightly marinated. After a short wait, our sashimi platter arrived with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, surf clam, scallop, squid, and saury. The surf clam was sweet and firm, the tuna had a nice balance of lean and fatty meat, and the scallop was cut in a unique way for an interesting texture. We also tried grilled squid liver, which was fresh and didn't melt when cooked. Impressed by the quality of the sashimi, we decided to leave the nigiri selection to the chef. The nigiri included fatty tuna, yellowtail, lean tuna, surf clam, abalone, button shrimp, scallop, tamagoyaki, salmon roe, and sea urchin. The chef included some premium items in the omakase selection, like fatty tuna with wasabi on top for comparison. Everything was delicious, with the fatty tuna, sea urchin, and king crab standing out as the top three. The sushi rice was slightly less vinegary than preferred but it was still enjoyable. We had three rounds of drinks each and the total bill came out to 7,500 yen per person. Considering the quality and quantity of the dishes, the price was reasonable and competitive with famous sushi restaurants in Hakodate. The only downside is that the location might be a bit inconvenient to access, but we had a great experience enjoying affordable and delicious sushi.

I visited this sushi restaurant the other day at night, and I think it's a great place. It is located near the Mihara Hokkaido General Promotion Bureau, in a residential area. The interior of the restaurant is new and has a cozy atmosphere with a counter and private rooms with low-legged chairs. This time, I visited for lunch. The prices are as follows: Regular [1,200 yen], Special [1,600 yen], Extra special [2,000 yen], and Premium selection [3,000 yen]. I ordered the Special sushi set for 2,000 yen (excluding tax) this time. It included tuna, Tokishirazu (scallop), North Yesso scallop, flounder, sea urchin, salmon roe, and more, with a salad and soup. The sushi pieces were thick and the soup was full of ingredients. It's hard to find a place where you can get all of this for 2,000 yen. It seems like they are considering raising prices, and due to sourcing reasons, it may not be possible to have a perfect sushi lunch like today every day. However, it is a highly recommended restaurant worth visiting.

I'm in Hakodate looking for delicious sushi. I checked photos and prices of popular and Michelin-starred sushi restaurants, but couldn't find any that caught my interest. Spending 15,000 yen for this quality, I might as well eat in Ginza. Instead, I'm determined to find a place with good value, quality ingredients, and most importantly, a fun dining experience. After narrowing down my options based on photos and prices, I confirmed my choice and checked the location on a map. I found a map with all Hakodate bus stops and identified the nearest one to the restaurant. Taking a bus is my preferred choice over a taxi to maintain the high value for money. The journey from Hakodate Station to the restaurant takes 30 minutes by bus, followed by a short walk. I made a reservation in advance and was greeted by the young chef at the counter. The restaurant is new and has a fresh atmosphere. I was impressed by the display of ingredients in a wooden box in front of the counter. The chef's dedication is evident in the presentation. The highlight was the black abalone, which was larger than my fist. I started with a beer and appetizers, including crab and deep-fried tofu with crab miso. The sashimi platter was impressive, featuring black abalone, button shrimp, octopus, cured mackerel, flounder, and scallop. The sushi selection was outstanding, with highlights like fatty tuna, sea urchin, abalone, red snapper, scallop, snow crab, and more. The chef also served recommended items, including live firefly squid and black abalone upon request. The quality of the ingredients was exceptional, attracting local regulars who shared recommendations for other dining spots. I ended the meal with a refreshing beer and the restaurant's recommended plum steamed egg custard. Overall, it was a delicious and enjoyable dining experience that made my trip worthwhile. Just be mindful of the bus schedule for the return journey.

"Sushi Takan" is located on a small road at the corner of the Kameda Junior High School ground on Sanko-doro. Turn left at the next traffic signal at the intersection with Japan's most famous hardware store, then turn onto Mihara Gakuen Street, passing the Hakodate Shoko Shinko Credit Union. Turn left onto the road and a little further down on the right side, you will find "Sushi Takan". The exterior of the shop is like a private house, with no sign on the building, so look for the noren curtain with the shop name and the sign placed on the road in front of the shop. Inside the small shop with a counter seating for 5, you will notice a wooden sushi case. I ordered the premium course for 2000 yen, which includes 10 pieces of sushi such as Hokkigai, maguro, salmon, awabi, sweet shrimp, crab, uni, and ikura. The kanpachi and hirame were fresh and delicious, and I especially enjoyed the awabi and uni. The other sushi pieces were also fresh and tasty, providing good value for the price."

The location is facing a one-lane city road with parking for 3 cars. Access by car is not great. I paid 2,000 yen for the premium course. 1. The abalone sashimi was firm and delicious. 2. The purple clam had a unique taste. 3. The scallop was thick and juicy with a rich sweetness. 4. The sea urchin was excellent, fresh without any off-putting smell. The portion was decent. 5. The crab leg was tender without any dryness. 6. The shrimp was creamy. 7. The lean tuna was standard. 8. The yellowtail was also good. 9. The salmon roe was soft without any fishy smell. 10. I forgot to mention that the lunch comes with a salad. The sushi pieces were small but the rice and vinegar seasoning were good. Good quality ingredients, good taste, and good value for money. I didn't confirm if they use premium rice, but I have a feeling this is a popular place.
