I wonder how many years it has been. It's my 7th visit. For lunch, we borrowed the storefront for a BBQ. We had prosciutto, beef, raw sausages, and raw mushrooms in garlic oil. After that, we enjoyed some sake while soaking in the outdoor bath. For dinner, we had the usual Hitobiro hamburger. It was delicious with Hitobiro soy sauce. Just recording for memory.

I was finally able to visit the Lodge Nutapukaushipe, a hidden gem, for the first time at 13:20 on Sunday, July 9, 2023. The log house, painstakingly built by the late owner, with its handmade open-air and indoor baths, is truly amazing. I called in advance at 9:30 on the day of the visit to confirm acceptance. Day trips are only accepted from 13:00 to 16:00, as the lodge itself operates seasonally from June to October, making it truly a hidden hot spring. The owner's wife, who manages the lodge, is elderly and has health issues, so it's uncertain how many more years they will continue to operate. Therefore, if you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting. The outdoor bath is mixed gender, but the owner's wife ensures that men and women do not run into each other by coordinating access through the dining room where she is always present. In front of the outdoor bath, there is a dressing room made of logs. As you walk along the river from the outdoor bath, you will come across another small bathing area that feels like a hidden hot spring. This one is a lukewarm bath where you could stay forever! After changing clothes, I replenished my fluids at the water server in the dining room before heading to the indoor bath. The indoor bath also offers a picturesque and serene setting. On this day, the indoor bath was pleasantly warm, allowing me to soak slowly and leisurely. The spring water is rich in calcium and magnesium, with a slight bluish tint, giving it a very clear and smooth texture. After soaking, I returned to the dining room and took a break with a Valencia orange (150 yen). This place is a space frozen in time, surrounded by mementos and photos of the late owner. I enjoyed a simple conversation with the owner's wife over a 10oz tumbler and a few ice cubes. When I shared my impressions of the visit, she was extremely pleased. "Next time, you'll stay overnight, right?" This lodge is amazing. I can't wait to fully enjoy the owner's home-cooked meals next time. I'll definitely be back again! On my second visit on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 13:30, and my third visit on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 14:00, I finally brought my wife and three sons to visit as a family. The experience of all three of us soaking in the outdoor bath was a wonderful memory! My wife and three sons really loved it!

2016.10 In the clouds, we arrived at 10:30 and joined the advance party that had arrived the day before. First, we celebrated our safe arrival. This year there are 10 of us. Every year, the inside of the inn seems to change, or rather, evolve little by little. This year, the women's indoor bath has been significantly updated. As we toured the facilities, it was already past 11 o'clock and time to start preparing for the BBQ. Due to the rough weather, there were occasional large hailstones falling. Only the person in charge of grilling was cooking outdoors, while the rest of us warmed ourselves by the coke stove and enjoyed the delicious parts inside. The freshly caught trout from the stream next to us. The main dishes were a 5cm thick triangle steak, sausages, and freshly smoked jerky chicken. We made a lot of garlic aioli and cooked it on the indoor coke stove. (I was in charge of grilling, so I have no photos). As it started snowing heavily, we decided to cancel the afternoon walk. We soaked in the open-air bath, but our upper bodies were too cold. Even with the help of hot sake, our cheeks were still cold. We moved to the hot indoor bath and relaxed in the warm water. By the time we were chatting with other guests, it was time for dinner. The main dish was a hamburger. It seems that there are members who request this every time. The dishes here, both meat and fish, are delicious. However, since we had a meat and fish BBQ for lunch, it was just right. The potato fries were made with new potatoes, also delicious! The simmered dish, fish, everything was locally caught. It was a blissful moment enjoying warm sake. Until 2008, they used to serve ramen here, but now they only offer accommodation and bathing services. I come here every year around the time of Health and Sports Day. It's perfect for refreshing!

Sometimes I feel like taking a spontaneous dip in Nakanotake Onsen or the wild hot springs around here, and when I do, the first thing I do is call here. If I'm lucky enough to get a reservation, I'm all set. The food is simple, like something you'd find at a mountain lodge. The owner sources local ingredients by visiting the producers. I could taste the sweetness and umami of the ingredients and enjoyed it. The chopsticks were slim and easy to use. They also have soy sauce-marinated wild garlic, so I always put it on my rice. The lack of ramen slightly lowered the food rating. The bath is handmade with its own spring source. The outdoor bath is separate from the indoor bath, so you need to change. The fresh water is full of calcium, magnesium, sodium sulfate, and chloride. The "outdoor rock bath" isn't very large, but it feels good as it gradually slopes towards the small river in the back. There are only a few washing areas in the mixed-gender bath, but there is also a roofed area where you can relax. The "indoor lumber bath" is separated by gender, and while I like the outdoor bath, the indoor bath is even better. It's not very spacious, but it's a simple and relaxing bath that soothes tiredness. In winter, the outdoor bath may not be usable, but the indoor bath alone is still satisfying. The binoculars casually placed by the dining room window are usually facing the mountains and occasionally birds. Take a look after a brief word of caution. The owner couple may not be the most outgoing in terms of customer service, and some may find them a bit difficult to approach at first, but don't worry! It's a popular inn with many repeat customers, including from overseas.

It is a simple inn. The owner's love for nature is reflected here. You can relax quietly in the hot spring. The lack of flashiness and spaciousness actually adds to the tranquility. After a day of hiking in the mountains, soaking in the hot spring while reminiscing about the views seen along the way, you feel healed. You wish it could stay like this forever. If you want luxurious facilities and a large hot spring, it might be better to visit a different hot spring resort.
