I ate it in several sittings and wrote my impressions each time, so my review may seem repetitive. But hey, if it gets too annoying, people can just choose not to read it, right? I visited New Sapporo after a while and saw that they had done a major renovation, with lots of new shops like a department store basement in San Plaza. Among them was a shop called Tanaka Seika, which I thought was a vegetable and fruit store, but turned out to be a pickle shop. Interesting, good for pairing with sake. I tried their colorful assortment for 648 yen and their popular herring pickles for 248 yen per 100g. It was a nice setup, with cucumbers, daikon, two types of nagaimo, and salmon sandwiched in pickles. I wanted to go camping, but when I mentioned that it was going to rain tomorrow, my friend suggested having a meal on their bench at home. So, it turned into a Saturday meal with a slight breeze and five mosquito coils burning, but no mosquitoes in sight. My wife suggested having red wine with the egg shop's side dishes, pickles, and grilled chicken. Red wine with pickles and grilled chicken? Well, she has a unique way of thinking. The pickles here have a tangy taste. I used to dislike pickles because of the sourness, but I can handle this level of tanginess now. The cucumbers in sake lees are something I absolutely detest, but apparently, they taste good. I wonder if I actually ate them? The eggplant pickles are something I despise as much as standing in line. The pink nagaimo pickles were surprisingly delicious. My wife said that the cut pickles are similar to the ones served at our favorite yakiniku restaurant and are tasty. But is that a compliment? These are not your typical pickles. The pickled turnip is fancy and has a nice flavor. I used to hate pickles because of the smell, and everyone knew not to put them near me. But that changed after I started using Tabelog. There are quite a few things like that. This is a new beginning from here. I could delete it, but I guess I forgot that I wrote it while drunk. I would never eat cucumbers, especially pickled ones. But these are surprisingly sweet. The salt content is moderate, and they are not too salty. Did I actually eat them? The soy sauce pickles with nagaimo are okay for pickles, but they are salty. I used to swell up just from the smell of pickles, but that was a long time ago. I still don't like the smell, though. The daikon pickles are not bad, but the eggplant pickles are something I would never eat. They are terrible, awful, yikes, terrible. What's with the pink nagaimo? Salty, but tasty. It has a strong flavor of white cabbage and kombu. Is it pickled kombu? The person who bought the popular assortment pack seemed to talk about it as if it was someone else's business.
