A wandering rookie curry maniac, dining alone middle-aged man here. Rarely with a companion after Saturday lunch, we were strolling around near the Hokkaido Government Office when a big sign for "GODIVA" caught our eye. It's located on the first floor of the Japan Life Sapporo Building (next to the Red Brick Terrace), occupying quite a spacious area. I remember hearing a few months ago about a "Mega Parfait" being offered for a limited time here. I usually focus on exploring soup curry restaurants in Sapporo, but I have a sweet tooth... (so medium spicy curry is my go-to) (my companion, who I share information with, loves super spicy!). This time, since I have a companion, it's easier to enter the restaurant. We stopped by for dessert and a post-meal break. When we looked at the huge menu at the entrance, we saw that they were still selling the "Mega Parfait" - lucky us! The types available were chocolate, strawberry, and caramel, with three different sizes: 1.6 times, 2 times, and 3.4 times. The 1.6 times and 2 times were the same price, so of course, we chose the 2 times option. Since it's "GODIVA," we went with the chocolate flavor. My companion chose the "Chocolate Drink 85%" as well. It wasn't a liqueur (as expected) since there was no cream on top. I tried a bit and surprisingly found it quite sweet for 85%. It was easy to drink. We entered the store, ordered at the counter next to the showcase, and received a paper with our order number. Perhaps due to the impact of the new coronavirus or competition from "miredo," there were thankfully empty seats, and we waited for about 10 minutes. When our number was called, we went to pick up our order - the Mega Parfait. It was surprisingly heavy! Whether it was due to the quality of the chocolate soft serve or the fact that we ordered the 2 times size, it was significantly heavier than regular soft serve ice cream. The staff handed it over carefully, probably because of the high position of the serving area and the weight, so I nervously accepted it. Excitedly, we sat down and started eating with plastic spoons. The chocolate soft serve was incredibly rich and heavy. It truly lived up to the GODIVA name. In contrast, the white fluffiness was not vanilla soft serve or rich cream but light whipped cream. Perhaps it was meant to balance out the heaviness of the chocolate? The richness made it hard to scoop up large amounts at once, so we had to eat it slowly, which made it seem like it was not decreasing much. Honestly, maybe the 2 times size was too much, even for someone with a sweet tooth like me. Despite being called a parfait, it had a cone-shaped waffle base, so I thought it would be nice if they set it up like a soft serve stand for eating in the store or mixed in a few small sponge cakes to prevent getting tired of it. Considering it's the "GODIVA brand," it's quite pricey, but why not enjoy a bit of luxury every now and then?
