In Nakano, there is a street called Fureai Road, which is densely packed with restaurants. There is a Vietnamese restaurant located on this street, but with its entrance set quite far back, it's easy to miss. To illustrate how hidden it is, even Lady Gaga forgot to write a review about it on her first visit! As I entered the restaurant, I checked the beer section of the menu and saw that a 330ml can of 333 beer was priced at 610 yen, which seemed quite expensive, even considering the added shipping costs for imported beers. The bottled beer was listed at 650 yen. I was prepared to forgo a drink if it turned out to be a small bottle, but upon asking the staff, I learned it was actually a medium bottle of Hartland beer. I quickly decided to order the Hartland medium bottle (650 yen). With that settled, I changed my food choice; I had initially planned to get the signature dish, beef tendon pho (950 yen), but pho isn't really a great pairing with beer since it's a broth-based dish and quite mild in flavor. So, somewhat apologetically to the shop name "Nacchan Pho," I ordered the grilled pork banh mi (690 yen) instead. The bread used for the banh mi had a light and crispy texture. Personally, I prefer a chewier bread for banh mi, but this was still pretty good. The filling included chunky pieces of grilled pork, pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber, and cilantro. The chili sauce offered wasn't too spicy, so for those like me who enjoy banh mi as a beer snack, I recommend slathering it on generously. As mentioned earlier, the restaurant is a bit tricky to find, so I wanted to include an exterior photo to help others discover it. However, just as I was about to take a photo, a Kirin beer salesman arrived and began chatting with the owner, Nacchan, right at the entrance. As a result, I had to abandon my plan for an exterior photo, opting instead to upload a picture of the food menu. So if you have trouble finding this place, blame the Kirin beer salesman! *I narrowly missed being the first to review this restaurant, so I've removed the "<First Review>" from the title.
