A good storefront that makes you want to open the door. The nice counter seats are bustling with local regulars. The ingredients for oden are simmering on the counter, waiting to be ordered. The atmosphere is great with a friendly female owner and an older man. This is an adult's bar. Exploring local foods across the country ☆ Kushiro oden edition

In March 2022, I visited Oden no Osho for the first time after seeing their videos on YouTube. As soon as I entered, I was asked by the lady if I was dining alone. Since I didn't plan on staying long, I mentioned that I would just have a drink and leave quickly. She kindly seated me at the counter. I ordered a glass of Fukushi sake and some oden with daikon, takenoko, tsubu, and ganmo, all of which were delicious. The place quickly filled up with regular customers, creating a cozy atmosphere. The staff were friendly and left me to enjoy my meal. I felt a bit like an outsider, but I appreciated being able to relax. The menu also included grilled dishes, and I could see myself becoming a regular here. I look forward to coming back when it's less crowded. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

At night in Kushiro, the second stop was a long-established local oden restaurant. Despite skipping lunch due to a long-distance bus journey, I unexpectedly ate a lot at the first stop (I underestimated the portion size in Hokkaido) so I was quite full. I intended to go easy on alcohol, but when the owner and a regular customer recommended Classic, I couldn't resist ordering it (beer can be heavy on the stomach). As I couldn't eat oden separately, I had to be selective in my choices. So, I ordered daikon, clams, egg, shirataki, burdock, and tempura as my first order. The oden broth was a familiar Kanto-style taste with a traditional kombu dashi base. The ingredients were well infused with the broth and tasted delicious. There were no particularly rare ingredients, but scallops and surf clams seemed to be unique to Kushiro. The simple oden here is the opposite of creative oden, but it gives a good sense of the history from the Showa era. I was envious of the person eating hokke (Okhotsk atka mackerel) but the size was too big for one person, so I ended up ordering more oden. The meatball and ganmodoki in the oden were delicious as expected. The fillings inside the ganmodoki spread in the mouth. It's a common thing, but the prices at this restaurant are not written anywhere. I felt reassured by the clientele, but when I paid the bill, I vaguely remember it was on the cheaper side, but I regret not remembering the exact amount. It was probably in the 3000 yen range.

The oden season is coming soon, but the oden here is delicious anytime. The parents are still busy running the place, but the customers all wait patiently for their turn. There was only pork skewers for yakitori, but the sauce was delicious! The hidden menu is limited in quantity, so it's first come, first served. The usual oden has tasty daikon and all the processed foods are good! It's the best. I didn't eat it, but the rice balls here are also super tasty!

Whenever I visit, my parents welcome me with a smile. They always work hard. The reliable oden and pork skewers! It warms up my body. Cheap, delicious, and the best. I wish it was closer to my house. The daikon is juicy, and the kamaboko is exquisite. The pork skewers are perfect with the sauce! Definitely worth looking forward to again.

When I came to Kushiro, I couldn't miss this place. I don't go to sketchy robatayaki places because I might get scammed as a tourist. The reliable oden here is always delicious with a gentle taste. The soup is very mild, I almost wanted to just order the broth. The meatballs looked delicious even though I didn't order them. The egg and daikon are soaked and tasty. Today they also had grilled fish like kohada, but I confidently ordered yakitori and pork skewers. The sauce is amazing! So delicious, I could eat as many as I want. The sight of the parents working hard to run the shop is comical yet inspiring. It's heartwarming to see regular customers helping out. My body is warmed up and I feel good, time to pay. Good value for money! I have to come back again!

When I went to cheer for my child's participation in the Inter-High (ice hockey), I stopped by this restaurant. The oden, yakitori, grilled fish, everything was delicious. The owner used to play ice hockey in the past, so we had a great time talking about hockey. I definitely want to visit again.

A wonderful couple-run Oden restaurant in Kushiro. The Oden is very delicious. The eggs and daikon are soaked in flavor and tasty! But the best part is the pork skewers recommended by the owner. Not too sweet, not too spicy. The pork is so tender, thick, and juicy because they don't use frozen meat. I was surprised that it rivals the taste of a yakitori shop. They also have a variety of grilled dishes, so even if you get tired of Oden, just ask the owner for a recommendation and they will delight you with their choices. I hope they continue to thrive. Very satisfied!

This is an oden restaurant located in Suehirocho, Kushiro. Suehirocho has changed a lot from the past, and I couldn't figure out where to go, so I started to panic a little. I jumped into this shop with an old exterior. It was past 10 pm, but the counter was about 50% full. What troubled me a little was that the menu at this shop didn't have any prices listed. I thought it might be a dodgy place, but looking at the regular customers drinking, it seemed like a normal shop, so I felt a bit relieved. I ordered a draft beer, oden (egg, fish cake, daikon radish, konjac), and two shochu highballs, totaling 1800 yen. The oden had a good flavor. Especially the fish cake was not made with rice cake, but with ground meat, dried shiitake mushrooms, and shirataki noodles, similar to the type at my parents' house. It was delicious. I actually wanted to order more than just oden, but since I didn't know the portion sizes or prices, I didn't go that far. As a first-time customer, it would be helpful if the prices were listed.

I visited the third restaurant in the Kushiro food binge night, following Torizan Zangi. The place is located about a 2-minute walk from Torizan. Upon entering the restaurant, there is a tatami area on the right and a counter on the left, which is occupied by regular customers. They recommended the local Kushiro sake, Fukushi's original sake "Oushou". I ordered daikon, takenoko (bamboo shoots), egg, hanpen (fish cake), and kombu. Starting with the daikon, it absorbed the broth well and tasted delicious. The kombu was also simmered just right and paired well with the sake! Although the oden pouch did not contain mochi, it was full of ingredients and enjoyable. Feeling adventurous, I also ordered cabbage rolls and konjac. The head chef mentioned that the cabbage rolls are also a specialty, and indeed, the broth and the minced meat flavor blended well together, and even though it was the third stop, I ended up opening a bottle of sake. The restaurant not only managed to balance out the greasiness of the Zangi, but also served delicious oden on its own.

Now, just about to get drunk, 5 seconds before ♡, I stroll through the bustling entertainment district of Suehiro, the best in Kushiro, with a suspicious gait. Guided by my companions, we entered this Oden Oshogatsu. The store's appearance and name are filled with a Showa-era charm and are quite appealing. If there were a national competition for izakayas called "Oshogatsu," this place would definitely be a top contender. Upon entering, you'll find a counter seat surrounding a large Oden pot and raised seating, giving the place a sophisticated atmosphere. Despite its age, the place is well-maintained, creating a comfortable and cozy environment where you can enjoy getting drunk every day. I sat down at the raised seating area and ordered a shochu highball to continue drinking. For snacks, we were served a large plate of assorted Oden. The lineup included hanpen, daikon radish, egg, tsubugai, kombu, satsuma-age, fried fish balls, shirataki noodles, tofu, fuki, atsuage tofu pouches, rolled cabbage, and baby bamboo shoots. The plating of the Oden on a large rectangular plate was truly spectacular. The daikon radish and egg had subtly different shades, probably due to the cooking time. It's possible to enjoy subtle differences in taste on one large plate. However, even in my current condition, I grabbed some Oden and started eating while gulping down my drink. I took a bite of the baby bamboo shoots and fuki, which I hadn't eaten much before, and the unique flavor and complexity of the Oden broth were refreshing. I then nibbled on the tsubugai and gulped down the egg. Later, I ordered the house original sake, named Oshogatsu, and poured a glass. The label also mentioned it was a local sake from Fukushi. The small menu also included ochazuke and onigiri, but I ordered the grilled pork skewer. The sweet and savory sauce on the pork belly was delicious. I continued to savor the Oden in Kushiro. It was a bit chilly outside, making it perfect for enjoying Oden. I didn't see chikuwa (fish cake) in the Oden, but perhaps it's been removed from the regular lineup here in Kushiro... I muttered about being a chikuwa purist as I finished my meal and prepared for the final battle.

I often go to this restaurant for business meetings. When colleagues from Sapporo come to Kushiro for work, they usually stay overnight in Kushiro. If they don't stay, they end up staying anyway for dinner and drinks. The food is a bit heavy, like zangi and fried food, so I prefer to have oden and chat about work. The restaurant is run by a couple, so when it gets busy, the food can be delayed. The oden here has a rich flavor and includes Hokkaido ingredients like bamboo shoots. The grilled pork skewers with sauce are also delicious. I always order them first before getting oden. The restaurant can get crowded, so I help myself to sake from the fridge while waiting. It's a great place to enjoy a slightly tipsy atmosphere.
