Visited in April 2022. I had always been curious about the tower I saw on the way to Hakodate. When I mentioned it to my mother and nephew on our way to Hakodate for cherry blossom viewing, my nephew quickly looked it up and found out it was the Toyoura Observatory Park Tower in Toyoura Town. We couldn't visit on the way there due to it being closed on Tuesdays, so we stopped by on our way back. Admission is free, and you can go up to the observation deck. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Toyoura Town, Funka Bay, and even Muroran in the distance. On the first floor of the tower, there is a shop. Although it was closed at the time, there seems to be an eat-in corner as well. The ice cream bars seem to be popular, so I chose an apple flavor. I later found out that the specialty product of Toyoura Town is strawberries. The ice cream bar made with kudzu was a first for me, and while the apple flavor was good and refreshing, I wasn't a fan of the texture that didn't melt or drip easily. Next time, I want to try the strawberry sherbet made with Toyoura Town's specialty strawberries. Thank you, "Ocean"!
