The next Hokkaido gourmet spot is the restaurant '80days located in the resort inn North Country. Although I wasn't very hungry after eating a ridiculous amount of soup curry in Asahikawa during the day, the highlight here is that you can enjoy homemade wine. So, I had to go check it out. When it was time, I headed down from my room and found many people already enjoying their meals. There was even a couple waiting in the waiting room, so it was quite bustling. The menu offers Western-style kaiseki and cheese fondue, with a salad bar and dessert served in buffet style. And the wine that caught my attention was the hotel's homemade North Wine Cabernet Sauvignon, which had the expected weight and a bit of spiciness. First, a consomme soup was served. While waiting for the main dishes, I helped myself to the salad buffet, opting for a normal portion this time. Next, a plate of Hokkaido-grown warm vegetables arrived. Maybe I didn't need the salad after all - I enjoyed them with mayonnaise, soy sauce, and matcha salt. In such cases, matcha salt is my favorite. The cheese fondue was then brought out. This time, we shared one between two people. It had a sweet taste like eating consomme-flavored potato chips. At home, when I make cheese fondue, I usually go heavy on the garlic and wine for a simple taste, so my husband wasn't a fan of this one. Personally, I thought it was okay. Next came the huge Western-style kaiseki set! What a large portion - it included a shrimp and vegetable cocktail, which I love. The consomme jelly was refreshing, and the sliced cucumbers underneath were crunchy. The seafood carpaccio with basil sauce featured salmon and had a tartare-like feel rather than true carpaccio. The Hokkaido vegetable ratatouille was a more traditional ratatouille with a strong tomato flavor. The creamy gnocchi with Furano milk was smooth and milky, and I really liked it. The Hokkaido seafood fritter had asparagus, scallops, and pumpkin, and was crispy without feeling heavy even when full. The roasted Shiretoko chicken was firm and flavorful. After overeating at lunch, I was already stuffed! The last dish was a paella-like rice dish, which was surprisingly my favorite. It wasn't actually baked, but the rice had absorbed the seafood broth beautifully, and it was perfectly al dente. It was a struggle, but I managed to finish it. I didn't have high expectations for this homey restaurant, but everything was surprisingly delicious. With homemade wine and the option to stay at the inn for the restaurant, it might not be a bad idea. By the way, you can purchase the wine at a 10% discount, and guests receive a potato service! After the potatoes are harvested, a 10kg batch will be delivered when you least expect it (shipping costs are on you).
