Since transferring to Osaka, I have been searching for a soba restaurant that suits my taste. I have visited "Doyamabito" and "Ei Nisshi" near the office for a quick lunch, but due to the prolonged pandemic, I haven't been able to enjoy the pleasure of having a nicely prepared soba appetizer with Japanese sake and finishing with soba! So, with the lifting of the state of emergency, I decided to visit here, enjoy soba and sake from lunchtime, and see the Tower of the Sun. ① About the restaurant: It's about a 10-minute walk from Unobe Station. I took the Osaka Monorail for the first time. As I walked up the slope, a quiet pond appeared. The restaurant is located by the pond, with a beige exterior and small reed screens hanging outside, giving it a simple and elegant appearance. It is a two-story building, with the kitchen on the first floor and seating on the second floor. Upon entering, I took off my shoes and went to the seating area. The interior is decorated with drums and shamisen subtly displayed, and the owner's carefully selected items such as dishes and pottery are neatly arranged. There are counter seats where you can overlook the pond, as well as spacious table seats. You can relax and enjoy your meal and drinks while listening to the quietly flowing jazz background music. ② About the food: I was looking forward to the soba and sake experience. First, let's start with beer and soba appetizers. "Dashimaki Tamago" is indeed a specialty as advertised. The fluffy texture, the gentle richness of the egg, and the dashi flavor blend perfectly. My personal favorite dashimaki tamago is from "Wataru," but this one is also excellent and to my liking. Next, I switched to cold sake "Yoake Mae." "Yaki Miso" is a favorite of my companion, so we always order it if it's on the menu. The miso spread on the scoop contains soba grains, providing a fun texture. The slightly salty taste is complemented by the accompanying shredded green onions. "Kawachi Duck Smoked" I love duck, especially Kawachi duck, so I had to order it! The moist and tender meat, the savory aroma of the seared skin, and the addition of wasabi stem enhance the wild flavor of the duck. Oh no, I can't stop drinking sake! "Kinpira Gobo" The sweet and savory seasoning goes well with sake. The crispy lotus root adds a great texture. Now, let's have the soba. I had the "Aimori (black and white)" soba. The white (Sarashina) soba is a beautiful milky white color with a transparent appearance. It is finely cut, with almost no rough edges or uneven cuts. The soba is drained well and has a refreshing and pleasant texture. After passing through the throat, a subtle sweetness can be felt, which I like. The black (Inaka) soba is a slightly thicker cut, with a dark gray color. Stars can be seen in some places. The edges are sharp, the texture is good when chewed, and it has a strong flavor. The dipping sauce is not too sweet but has a rounded and smooth taste, designed to enhance the flavor of the soba. My companion wanted to try both hot and cold soba, so we ordered two "Hanamaki" soba. I took a bite. The steam carried the aroma of seaweed and bonito broth, providing a comforting feeling. Warm soba is also delightful. The dipping sauce is clear and free of any impurities, with a transparent appearance. "Karame Bukkake" According to my companion, the soba has a good texture and throat feel! The dipping sauce is not too sweet, but my companion wished the daikon radish was a bit spicier. Finally, we had a warm soba broth to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed the soba appetizers, then finished with well-made soba, feeling very satisfied. Slightly tipsy and full, it was a happy holiday lunch. ③ About the staff: The second-floor seating area is managed by the owner's wife, who was alone.
