Last year around this time (November 2019), I revisited an old-fashioned popular diner in Kamiyubetsu on my way back from a business trip to Saroma. I wanted to have a bowl of ramen that had left a strong impression on me during my lunch break in the Showa era when I was young. I arrived a little before lunchtime and entered the restaurant. There were table seats in the front, a counter facing the kitchen, and a slightly raised area in the back. In the kitchen, there was a middle-aged head chef and a female owner. The previous owner I had met before was older than me, so I assumed there had been a change in ownership. There were two customers at the counter. I sat at a table near the edge and looked over the menu, ultimately ordering a unique bowl. After a short wait, the female owner brought it to me. - Gomoku Ramen (¥750) A clear soy sauce flavored soup with a clean chicken base, topped with old-style Sapporo noodles cooked to a firm texture. The concept of "gomoku ramen" is redefined with a unique combination of toppings. Chicken karaage, fried dumplings, fried eggplant, fried green peppers, Satsuma-age, Vienna sausages, boneless ham slices, and wheat gluten... At first glance, it may seem chaotic, but the individual toppings surprisingly complement the clean soy sauce soup well. In particular, the fried eggplant and fried green peppers hit the spot for me. The chicken karaage is also good, but I would be even happier if it were bite-sized. I would love to try a "katsu ramen" with this soup. The joy of reuniting after over 30 years and experiencing the change in ownership again, along with gratitude for tradition. Why don't you also experience the "chaos of Daruma-ken"? It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

◆August 2016◆ This is a long-established diner in Kamiyubetsu. Apparently, their Katsudon, which was featured on a travel website before, is quite popular. The parking lot on the right side of the store can fit about 5 cars. The exterior and interior have a nostalgic Showa-era diner atmosphere. They have a counter, tables, and a raised tatami seating area. [About the menu] They offer rice bowl dishes, set meals, ramen, curry, fried rice, etc. The Katsudon is priced at 650 yen, and the Shoyu Ramen at 550 yen, which is quite affordable. I ordered the Katsudon + Mini Ramen set, limited to 20 servings per day. The Katsudon has a classic sweet and salty sauce, and the meat portion is decent. The Shoyu Ramen was surprisingly delicious! It's a simple ramen with wheat gluten, and the soup base seems to be chicken broth. I would definitely recommend trying this tasty ramen even on its own. I enjoyed mixing the rice from the Katsudon with the ramen and soup, creating a delightful combination. Overall, it was a triple delicious menu.

When I entered the old building, I noticed several posters recommending the katsudon. The two customers sitting next to me were also eating katsudon, so I realized that this was a katsudon-focused restaurant. I think it was around 680 yen, so it was cheap and had a slightly sweet taste, but it was delicious. They have irregular hours, so I'm not sure when they are open or closed, but it seems like a place you can casually drop by in the evening. They also have sunken kotatsu seating, so it would be nice to visit with family.

Yubetsu is a place I visit every summer for a cool retreat. Last year, I went for a fireworks festival, but despite it being the height of summer, it was so cold that I was shivering. It was less than 20 degrees in August! Is this really Japan? This year, I went camping and golfing a week earlier. In the fall, I just passed through on my bike. There is a golf course called Upper Yubetsu Riverside, which is one of the most affordable and well-maintained golf courses in Japan. Near this golf course, there is a famous local restaurant. It seems like an old establishment that has been featured in magazines. The traditional ramen and scallop dishes caught my eye, but I ended up trying the scallop fry bowl, which is like the scallop version of a pork cutlet bowl. The scallop fry was coated in egg and served over rice, and it was delicious. The freshness of the scallops, the texture of the meat, the perfectly cooked rice, the sweetness of the sauce - everything was just right. This place is a local favorite and has a loyal following. The restaurant has a classic feel and offers a variety of popular dishes. It's like a classic roadside diner with a well-equipped parking lot. The interior has a charming old-fashioned vibe that appeals to families as well. They also offer self-service instant coffee, which was surprisingly good. The allure of B-grade dining is strong here, and I found myself wanting to revisit while still eating. I might try the pork chops and beer next time, and finish with a bowl of ramen. The charm of this place is undeniable.

I was recommended this Daruma-ken by a friend, so I decided to check it out. Upon entering, I was seated in a raised tatami seating area. The walls were adorned with photos of katsudon, and there was a mention of it being featured in the May 2012 issue of Jalan, so I quickly ordered the katsudon. While waiting, I perused the menu and found that the prices were quite reasonable across the board, including the set meals. When my katsudon arrived, I found it quite delicious, especially considering it was only 600 yen. With such a wide variety of affordable options on the menu, I look forward to trying something different on my next visit.

I have been eating katsudon since I was little, so there is also a nostalgic bias, but it is delicious (*´ー`*) My grandparents' house is nearby, so when relatives gather, we often order it and eat it. When you open the lid, the smell of the seaweed sprinkled on top is very good, and it makes you excited! It comes with trefoil, but I always put it on my mother's plate. The meat may seem a bit thin now that I'm an adult, but it's still delicious enough! It's a restaurant where you can taste the simplicity and deliciousness of traditional set meals and rice bowl dishes.

"Daluma-ken" in Yubetsu was my destination on a Saturday when I didn't feel like going far. I was curious about a shop there, so I decided to check it out. I didn't expect to find much about it on food review websites since it's in Yubetsu, but I had a decent experience on that Saturday. Finally, I stopped by a cake shop. Even though I had decided to skip a certain shop that day, I stumbled upon it - "Daluma-ken." I called to inquire about their menu and found out that their specialty is katsudon. Since I can't eat katsudon, I opted for fried rice instead. The owner answered the phone, and when I asked if I could get the fried rice for takeout, there was a bit of a misunderstanding. Eventually, I ended up ordering the katsudon for takeout. The owner was kind and welcoming, and I felt a warm atmosphere in the restaurant. The katsudon was affordable at 700 yen, but I found the rice a bit mushy, almost like porridge. Despite that, I ended up finishing the meal, so I guess it was tasty after all.

We shared a set of pork cutlet rice bowl and mini ramen for 1050 yen, and a scallop fry curry for 780 yen among my wife and three children. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was full of flavor and our expectations were high. The scallop fry curry arrived first, and my child eagerly started eating. When the pork cutlet rice bowl and mini ramen arrived, they also reached out for those dishes. Therefore, the photo is of the scallop fry curry only. The curry and ramen were delicious, but the pork cutlet rice bowl was undeniably delicious.
