During a drive in Tsukubetsu Town, we stopped for lunch at a new restaurant. It seemed to be run by a mother and daughter, with the daughter handling the cooking and the mother taking care of the customers. We were the first customers and were shown to a private seating area. The lunch menu was surprisingly extensive and mostly priced at 800 yen, which felt like a great deal. There were so many options to choose from, including a daily special menu featuring dishes like ginger pork, beef bowl, and fried mackerel. I decided to try the Singapore Chicken Bowl, which was colorful and appetizing. It came with a variety of side dishes, including miso soup and three other dishes. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the two sauces provided added a nice touch. My husband tried the daily special ginger pork lunch, which was also delicious. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and seemed to be popular among locals. I heard that they also offer evening meals for group gatherings, which I would love to try next time.

I contacted the management because there was no phone number on the food log information, and I thought it was kind of them. I tried to make a reservation by phone, but both numbers listed said "not in use." So, I tried the other number as well, and it also said "not in use." They shouldn't list it on the menu if it's not available. I visited "Nonkiya," a place for home-cooked meals in Tsugai. I will be leaving in the afternoon as I brought my lunch box. In the review photos, it said "available for takeout," so I decided to call. However, the phone was not in use. So, I decided to go to the restaurant. It said "OPEN," but when I entered, the lady seemed confused. I asked if they offer takeout, and she said yes. I requested a curry for takeout, and she asked if it was beef curry. I said yes, and she asked for 10 minutes. When the food was ready, she handed it to me. The kitchen seemed busy. The lady thanked me, but the kitchen staff remained silent. The food was served in a cardboard box. They didn't anticipate the customer's needs. The ham was thinly sliced, and I took it as a gesture of their hospitality. The curry was unexpectedly bland and heavy. The rice portion was too much, and even my wife said it was too much. There was a lot of sliced cucumber, which seemed unnecessary for takeout. The egg was a pleasant surprise as it was half-cooked. The curry had a hint of smokiness, but it wasn't as flavorful as expected. My wife mentioned that it lacked spiciness but had a good flavor. When asked about the price, it was 800 yen, which seemed a bit high. I rated it 3.0, but my wife said she would rate it 3.2 if it was priced at 600 yen. It seems that they focus more on catering than on the quality of the beef curry.

I visited the charming home-style cooking restaurant Nonkiya for the first time! I decided to try their lunch menu. The exterior of the restaurant has a cute Western-style feel. Inside, there is a raised seating area and a counter at the back. The kitchen is in a separate room. The mother and daughter who run the place are both very friendly. They have a daily special menu with a choice of meat or fish for 800 yen. I chose the meat option, which was Sagari today. The counter seats have spacious tables and are very comfortable. The meat dish had a generous portion size and came with vegetable tempura. It was delicious and flavorful. The tempura was also tasty. The side dish of daikon and spinach salad was refreshing. The meal also included rice, soup, and pickles. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the daily lunch special. I would like to try the fish option next time. They also serve dinner, so locals can enjoy drinks there as well. Thank you Nonkiya for the delicious meal!
