After the New Year, I was in the mood for some curry in addition to traditional New Year dishes, so I headed to Ceylon Curry which opened on January 2nd. It is located northeast of Nagahori Bridge. It had been a while since I last visited. As I entered, I noticed portraits of three people - the head chef, Yuko, and Chaminda. Water is self-service. I ordered the special ambal curry of the day. The curry was made with mutton. The rice was red rice (long-grain rice with fewer calories than Japanese rice). The side dishes included banana buds, island pumpkin, eggplant sambol, and manioc leaf mallung noodle. The cost is high, but the mutton curry had no gamey taste, just rich flavor. It was delicious. Mixing it halfway through enhanced the flavor. They also served a complimentary prawn curry which was excellent. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly done. For dessert, I had chai tea, which was served hot. Sri Lankan New Year falls on the old calendar, so many Sri Lankans return home in February, but it may not be possible this year. I wonder what the Sri Lankan workers in Japan, away from their families and homeland, feel as they prepare curry in this cold weather. The curry they make, shivering in the cold, is deeply satisfying. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Visited a Sri Lankan home cooking restaurant for the first time on a Sunday night in November. The restaurant is run by a Japanese owner who loves Sri Lanka and brought in a renowned chef from Sri Lanka. I chose the special menu option, which was either duck or Fuhekodai. The duck curry came with salad, dessert, and a drink. The meal started with a salad followed by a plate containing a banana leaf-wrapped curry, cutlets, achar, and papadam. Opening the banana leaf revealed a steaming curry with plenty of duck meat, served with steamed rice and a half-boiled egg on top. The dish was delicious, especially when mixed with the cutlets and achar. The dessert was a Sri Lankan steamed pudding called "Madra Pan" and the Ceylon tea was also tasty. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, although I didn't find the duck curry as flavorful as duck ramen.

I finally went to Ceylon Curry that I've always wanted to try. I went late at night without a reservation, but they were able to seat us right away. I was curious about the most popular dish, but I was drawn to the mixed curry, so I ordered that. It was delicious. I like the cilantro. It was mildly spicy and tasty. This is a curry I want to eat again.

I had a business trip to Osaka on this day. I couldn't decide what to eat, but my wife recommended Ceylon Curry, so I decided to go there. It's a 5-minute walk from Nagahoribashi Station. I arrived at 11:35 and there was only one group of two customers already there. I was tempted by the lunch menu which included noodles and devilled chicken set, but I decided to go with a basic menu and ordered the Ambra. Ambra means "homemade dish" and refers to rice and curry. I upgraded to basmati rice for an extra 200 yen and changed my drink to Ceylon tea for an extra 100 yen. The Ambra curry I chose was made with fish, specifically tuna. It also included parippu, beets, green beans, mallung, sambol, and papad. The presentation was impressive and the spiciness level was just right, making it easy to eat. The flavors of each ingredient stood out when mixed together, creating a delicious taste. I finished the meal with Ceylon tea. Thank you for the meal.

Visit date and time: 12:40 on a weekday Wait time: None Menu: Biryani 1,300 yen + Large serving 200 yen + Mini curry (mutton) 300 yen I decided to try something different and went with the Biryani. The Basmati rice cooked with spices and raisins had a unique spiciness to it. While it was delicious, it lacked the impact and appeal that I usually expect from Ceylon Curry. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this restaurant for lunch for the first time. The older sister quickly assigned me a seat. I was undecided on the service lunch options and ended up choosing the mixed curry. You can choose between Japanese rice and Basmati rice. It had a gentle flavor. It seems like you can choose from a variety of curries even for the service lunch. Next time, I would like to try the chicken or beef curry.

I had work in Minamisenba that day and had dinner at "Ceylon Curry" before heading home. I arrived at the restaurant around 7:30 PM and there was only one other customer. The place was quite empty, perhaps due to the bad weather. It's a Sri Lankan restaurant, and I was unsure of what to order, but I decided to go with the popular No.1 dish, Ambra. I changed the rice to Basmati rice and added a fried egg on top. I chose the pork curry from the daily curry selection. It took about 7 minutes from ordering to serving. The curry looked mild at first glance, but it turned out to be extremely spicy, to the point where it made my upper palate peel. Mixing it all together would probably make it just right, but trying to eat it little by little while mixing it was really intense. However, it was delicious in its own way. The side dishes were unique and tasty on their own, but they really shined when mixed together. The combination of sweetness, spiciness, and acidity was very delicious. I've never tried it with regular Japanese rice, but I think this dish should be eaten with Basmati rice. The staff were friendly and it was a cozy restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I used it for lunch during my break. It was registered as one of the top 100 stores, so I decided to give it a try. I had the chicken keema curry with vegetables. It was easy to eat and I finished it all in no time! The interior of the restaurant had stickers from top 100 stores and other places, so it seemed like a popular spot. Luckily, I was able to get in easily during lunchtime. Thank you for the meal.

Tabelog Asia Ethnic WEST Top 100 Restaurants 2022 - Ranked 26th out of 100 in Western Japan. Overall rating on Tabelog: 3.66. Visit Date: May 20, 2023, Saturday, 6:00 PM. Ordered: Ambra Basmati Rice (with Beef Curry) - 1,400 yen, Biryani - 1,300 yen, Egg Rolls (2 pieces) - 800 yen. Upon arrival at the restaurant at opening time, there were no other customers initially, but it quickly filled up with more people. Many customers seemed to be from India or Sri Lanka, giving the place an authentic vibe. I decided to go with the popular choice, Ambra Basmati Rice, but opted for Biryani instead. The dishes were quite spicy, with a strong aroma of various spices. While it was a bit too hot for my liking, the flavors were rich and enjoyable. The Basmati Rice was especially delicious and memorable. I also tried the Egg Rolls for the first time, and they were surprisingly tasty, not spicy at all. Overall, despite the spiciness being a bit overwhelming for me, the food was flavorful and satisfying at this top Asian Ethnic restaurant.

I had the most popular dish, Abran, in an atmospheric restaurant. It is a dish where curry and side dishes are mixed together. The appearance is vibrant. I thought it would be similar to Osaka-style spicy curry, but it actually had a true Sri Lankan flavor. It's not trying to cater to Japanese tastes.

I visited the Seiran Curry booth at the "Nippon Curry Archipelago" event at Seibu Ikebukuro Store. I tried the Banana Leaf-wrapped "Lamprais (Chicken)". When you open the wrap, the aroma of banana leaf and spices is intense. The basmati rice, fried with spices, is topped with a variety of ingredients. Both the rice and side dishes are quite spicy. The spice aroma hits you strongly. I dug in, sweating and completely absorbed in the flavors. Chicken, beans, and various vegetable stir-fries. The flavors are rich and delicious. The boiled egg served on the side was also tasty. I finished it all in one go. It was even more delicious than I expected. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of the most popular Sri Lankan restaurant in Osaka.

It was crowded during lunchtime, but luckily I managed to slide into the last table. This time, I tried the most popular dish at this restaurant, the Ambra. It came with various side dishes and seemed to be good for my health. This was probably my first time trying Sri Lankan cuisine, so it was a good learning experience. Thank you for the meal.

The menu had unfamiliar items, but the staff kindly explained them. My companion doesn't like coconut, so we asked which dishes contained coconut before ordering. The dish I ordered had coconut in various parts, but my companion tried it and said it was fine to eat! The flavor must be really good. It was much more delicious than the trendy spiced curry, with a bold and distinct taste.

Umbra Lassi's popular menu, the Umbra Beef Curry with Basmati Rice, was selected. I enjoyed trying a variety of ingredients and rice little by little. The curry had a subtle spice that was just right. The Basmati Rice paired nicely with the Sri Lankan curry, making it easy to eat. I finished the meal with a lassi, which was perfect for refreshing the palate after the spices. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Today's Curry Today, I visited "Ceylon Curry" in Minamisenba, Chuo-ku and tried their weekend special, "Special Ambra". I ordered my favorite mutton curry, which also came with mackerel, papadum, and various side dishes to mix with the curry. The mutton curry had chunky pieces of meat in it. I also got a lassi for an additional ¥100.

Today, I was in the mood for Sri Lankan curry, so I came to "Ceylon Curry" here! When I entered the restaurant, I saw locals eating curry with their hands! I ordered Ambra with Basmati rice. Sri Lanka's representative home-cooked dish is really delicious! I enjoyed changing the taste by mixing it little by little! Everyone, please come and try it out!

This is a shop in Minami Semba! I ordered "5 side dishes + chestnut curry with basmati rice" for ¥1400! The spiciness was a little hotter than the normal level at CoCo Ichi, making it easy to eat! As always, I couldn't tell which side dish was which, but it was delicious! The curry was authentic and classic Indian style! The tandoori chicken looked delicious too. Thank you for the meal!

I visited this curry restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. It is located about a 5-minute walk from Nagahoribashi Station, in a residential area. It was my first time trying Ceylon curry, which was slightly different from Indian curry with less spiciness. On that day, they were celebrating their 10th anniversary, and we could get drinks for only 100 yen.

Today's Curry Today, I visited Ceylon Curry in Minami Semba, Chuo-ku. I made a reservation for the 10th-anniversary collaboration event with 4 restaurants on the 25th and 26th of this month, starting from February 1st. I applied for the visit at 2:00 PM today. The participating restaurants in the collaboration are Ceylon Curry, Kuroda from (former) BAR Anonymous in Kita-shinchi, the owner of the popular Sri Lankan curry restaurant Curry Shiba in Shinsaibashi, which closed in July last year, and Nunkui, a curry restaurant in Sakai. Each restaurant served a special plate with one curry dish. The contents of the dishes were as follows: Kuroda from Anonymous served deer, Nunkui served lamb, Ceylon served shrimp or chicken celeriac and harami, and Shiba offered oysters or mackerel. I chose chicken celeriac and harami, and oysters. I thought that such a collaboration might not happen again, and it was incredibly delicious.

Feasting Journey Part 11 - Lunch in Osaka 2023. Located between Nagahoribashi Station and Sakaisuji Hommachi Station, along Itaya Bridge Street Line. When in Osaka, you must try the spice curry, especially the Sri Lankan curry which is not widely available in Kanto region yet. I found a promising looking restaurant and decided to visit. Upon entering, the restaurant was empty even on a Sunday afternoon. The staff in the hall were Japanese, but the kitchen staff were locals, giving the place a more authentic feel. I ordered the Ambra (Basmati Rice) for 1,400 yen (with chicken curry), a Lassi for 100 yen, and a free fried egg (by adding a LINE friend). The curry looked colorful with various ingredients neatly arranged, but once mixed, it lost its beauty quickly. It felt like a room that had just been cleaned and then messed up when you place things where you like. The Sri Lankan curry had a chaotic mix of ingredients, but when eaten with Basmati rice, the spices were strong and delicious. It was quite spicy, different from typical Indian curry, with a rustic and unrefined feel. It felt like a spice-packed "cat food" kind of dish. As someone who prefers more traditional flavors, I found it slightly odd, but for spice lovers, it would be irresistible. The Lassi, a sweet yogurt drink, paired well with the spicy rice. Overall, it was a great experience to try Sri Lankan curry, not commonly found in Tokyo.

This is my first visit in 5 years. I remember the last time I had Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time and left the restaurant feeling fresh and satisfied. This time, I ordered a different popular dish than before. It was past 2 p.m. so there were only 2 other customers, creating a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the meal. The food arrived 5 minutes after ordering. I personally felt that the additional 200 yen for changing to Basmati rice was a downside. Especially for lunch, I would have preferred it to be included in the same price. The taste of each side dish is simple and has no strong flavors, making it easy to eat even for those unfamiliar with the cuisine. The dishes may lack a bit of uniqueness. The curry also has a mild flavor but goes well with Basmati rice. This restaurant is reliable and offers a stable dining experience. Today's lunch cost ¥1500.

I ordered the special last time, but this time I got the regular Ambra (1200 yen) with Basmati rice (200 yen), topped with a fried egg (100 yen), and added cilantro (100 yen), totaling 1600 yen. I was very satisfied. I had written in my last review that the cost performance was so-so at 1700 yen, but for some reason, I felt satisfied with 1600 yen. It's just a 100 yen difference, but I found myself thinking, "What's wrong with me?" (laughs) I think I don't really like sweet things, so even though dessert came with the meal and it was 1700 yen, I thought I didn't need it and wanted it to be cheaper. But looking back, 1700 yen is still a good deal. It's nice that they're open at night too. Next time, I might try something other than Ambra.
