Today, I visited a restaurant called Eat & Relax for brunch. It seems like it used to be a seafood bowl place, but now they offer a variety of Japanese set meals. I ordered the Grilled Mackerel Set Meal, but unfortunately it was sold out, so I ended up getting the Grilled Mackerel Salt Set Meal instead. The menu mentioned that the grilled fish takes some time to cook, so I was prepared to wait around 15 minutes. When the dish arrived, it was simple and satisfying. The mackerel had just the right amount of fat and the meat was delicious. I've been craving healthy and simple meals lately, so this was perfect for me today.

Today I felt like eating fish for lunch, so I decided to visit a restaurant. There was only one person waiting for takeout ahead of me, and there were no other customers. I looked at the menu and chose the Grilled Cod with Saikyo Miso. It took about 10 minutes for my order to arrive. The dish had a familiar and comforting taste, and I enjoyed it. The meal came with rice, miso soup, and a side of sautéed burdock root. After finishing my meal, I received a complimentary cup of tea, and I decided to buy some snacks to enjoy with it. Overall, I felt grateful to be able to experience such a traditional Japanese meal.

Located in the Hakkō area of the Nishi Ward. I visited in the morning but they had changed their operating hours, so I had to come back later. They now open at 9 am. I had high expectations as they specialize in grilled fish, unlike the previous seafood bowl I was wary of due to its low price. I ended up ordering the Grilled Saikyo Miso Cod Set (850 yen). The Saikyo miso marinated cod had a gentle flavor, though slightly on the bland side. The grated daikon was well done, and the rice, a variety called "Nanatsuboshi" from Rankoshi, was good but could have been cooked a bit better. The miso soup was a bit strong in flavor and lacked distinct dashi. Overall, the meal was decent but lacked a unique selling point compared to family restaurants. I hope they can compete with Ootoya's fish dishes in the future. Thank you for the meal.

I came here based on the information that they open for business at 7 am in the morning. It is located near Hassamu Station, along the market street next to AEON, and is about a 10-minute walk from both the Minami-Sunagawa subway station and JR Hassamu station. A few days ago, I came here but found out that they were closed on public holidays (not sure what time they open). The ticket machine at the entrance had a "adjusting" sign and was not in use. The restaurant has 6 counter seats, 2 four-person tables, and plays BGM from "Official Hige Dandism." The interior is bright with large glass windows facing the street, and there is even a corner with nostalgic snacks. The middle-aged male owner runs the restaurant by himself and greets customers with a "Welcome, are you dining in?" as he brings a glass of water. The menu offers 12 types of grilled fish sets, as well as fried rice, shrimp fry, curry, and fried chicken, which I found to be a rare mix on the menu. I ordered the "grilled mackerel set @780 yen." The kitchen is separated from the counter by a white wall about 150cm high, so you cannot see the cooking process. I wonder why they hide the cooking process - maybe they don't want customers to see certain things? Or maybe they are just shy? The food was served in about 8 minutes with grilled mackerel, kinpira burdock, white rice, miso soup, grated daikon, soy sauce, and chopsticks on a tray. The grilled fish seemed to be cooked at a low temperature, lacking a crispy and savory skin. The saltiness was just right, and although soy sauce was provided, I found it unnecessary. The sliced lemon and shiso leaves under the fish also seemed unnecessary. The grated daikon had a nice texture and was tasty. The rice was "Nanatsuboshi" from Rankoshi, cooked well and delicious, providing a generous amount in the bowl. The combination of grilled fish and tasty white rice is the ultimate Japanese comfort food. If they open from 7 am, I think they should offer a more affordable "breakfast limited menu." The 780 yen for a grilled fish set in the morning may be a bit pricey, and even if the fish portion is slightly smaller, adding a small side dish, natto, egg, or seaweed for a one-coin breakfast menu would be nice. Business starts with attracting customers, and without customers, there will be no sales. After finishing my meal, they served me green tea, and I quickly finished it before moving on to my second meal of the day. Thinking that "grilled fish is great for breakfast" made me realize that I might have an old-fashioned taste. It was a satisfying meal.

I had lunch at a small restaurant called "Taberararu". It is located on the first floor of a building along the road, with a counter of 5 seats and one table. The entrance has a touch panel that doesn't work. The interior is plain and there are some adjustments being made to the food. It seems like a recently opened shop. They use Nanatsuboshi rice from Rankoshi. They mainly serve set meals centered around fish. Although the fish I wanted was out of stock, I ordered the grilled salted Atka mackerel. It took a long time to arrive, and when it did, I was informed that the mackerel was not in the usual half-body shape. Despite this, the mackerel was delicious with firm flesh, and the rice was also tasty. I think they need to make significant improvements in their operation, but I hope they will succeed. Thank you for the meal.

The other day, I happened to pass by and noticed that the shutter was open. I thought the rice bowl restaurant had reopened, so I went there today on my bike. When I arrived around 11:30, I noticed that the name of the restaurant had changed and there were no rice bowl options. Since I was in the mood for a seafood bowl, I decided to try the fish options available. There were no other customers inside. I couldn't use the ticket machine near the entrance, so I had to order inside. I chose the "Silver Salmon Fillet Set Meal" for ¥780, which seemed reasonably priced. The rice used in the meal was "Nanatsuboshi" from Rankoshi, and there was attention to detail in the other ingredients as well. The meal was ready in about 10 minutes. The salmon was quite large, probably the largest I've had in similar set meals in recent years. The portion of rice was a bit small, but the side dish of simmered burdock root was good. The rice had a nice aroma and was delicious. The salmon was fresh and had no fishy smell, and it tasted great with soy sauce. The balance between the rice and salmon was a bit off, but I could have easily had more rice. Overall, the price of ¥780 was very reasonable. The restaurant mentioned that they had to change their menu due to difficulties in sourcing ingredients. It seems like there won't be rice bowls available for a while, but the quality of the food was still good.

In Hokkaido dialect, there is a term called "taberasaru" which means a state where you can't help but eat because your appetite is stimulated. I visited Taberasaru, wondering if they use such dialect here. It is located quite close to AEON Sapporo Hassamu store, where there used to be a seafood bowl restaurant. I entered the store with the intention of dining in, but to my surprise, they were sold out of white rice, so I couldn't have the fish set meal! Unexpectedly, I ended up ordering fried rice instead. The fried rice had a slightly spicy flavor from the salt and pepper seasoning, which wasn't bad. However, I prefer the rice to be a bit firmer in texture and the saltiness to be a bit milder. The addition of egg gave a fluffy texture to the dish. While it's appreciated that the dish came with miso soup, the overall saltiness from the fried rice and the kinpira burdock was a bit too much. The kinpira burdock had a strong flavor, which would have been better with white rice. The miso soup helped balance out the saltiness, but I still wish the overall dish had less salt. Location: Pleasure Heights 1F, 11-1-32 Hassamu 8-jo, Nishi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. Taberasaru

One weekday, I stumbled upon a cozy restaurant in Nishi-ku, Hassamu 8-jo during lunch time. The restaurant, which had a heartwarming name and offered a variety of grilled fish set meals, seemed to have parking space for 2-3 cars in front of the store. Inside, there were 6 seats at the counter and 2 tables, with simple decorations and Japanese pop music playing in the background. From the menu, I chose the "Recommended Dish" which was the "Mato-dai Nishikyo-yaki set meal (1000 yen)". The dish took some time to be grilled thoroughly, but when it was finally served, I took a bite and was pleasantly surprised. The Mato-dai fish had a tender and fluffy texture, and the Nishikyo-yaki miso flavor had seeped into the meat, enhancing its taste. Some parts of the fish had a nice fatty texture, and squeezing lemon juice over it along with fresh shiso leaves added more depth to the flavor. I also had some pre-made kinpira burdock, miso soup with wakame seaweed and potatoes, and rice which was a firm and sticky variety called Nanatsuboshi from Rankoshi. I wondered if the restaurant had changed from a previous seafood bowl place, and hoped that it would attract more customers in the future. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Today, after getting my hair cut, I decided to try this place. Suddenly craving curry, I ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry for 1080 yen. They also had grilled fish, simmered dishes, and side dishes available. Although you can dine in at the restaurant, this time I got my order to go since I was on my way home. I also couldn't resist trying some side dishes, so I got 100g of Sichuan-style Mapo Tofu for 140 yen and 100g of Beef Tendon Stew for 240 yen. The staff at the restaurant were very friendly and easy to talk to. Now, about the taste - the pork cutlet was crispy and thick, just like the cutlets you'd find at a tonkatsu restaurant. The curry sauce was slightly sweet with well-cooked potatoes, making it easy for even children to enjoy without overpowering the cutlet. It was delicious. The beef tendon stew was clearly well-cooked, and the other ingredients remained firm and flavorful. This made me think the simmered fish might be delicious too. The Sichuan-style Mapo Tofu had just the right amount of spiciness and numbing sensation, but personally, I wished it had a bit more heat and numbing. I guess they adjusted the spiciness to cater to children as well. The chef's personality shines through in the dishes. I look forward to dining in next time.
