At Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro, there was a gourmet winter Hokkaido fair from January 7th to 13th. The menu included Creme Brulee Custard Baum for 432 yen and Rare Cheese Cube for 378 yen. The Rare Cheese Cube was sold out on weekends, so I bought the Custard Cube instead. It's a classic combination of choux cream and custard cream. The limited edition items were quickly sold out, but I'm still curious about the Baum cake.

A pastry shop located in the southern part of Otaru, focusing on Baumkuchen. I bought several types of Baumkuchen and cream puffs to take home this time. The Baumkuchen comes in plain, mango, melon, strawberry, soda, and lemon flavors. They are not too sweet, with a moist texture and a strong eggy flavor. The flavored coatings are subtle, so I preferred the plain one. The cream puffs were filled with cream, giving them a satisfying weight. The pastry was also delicious.

I visited a shop in Otaru on my day off that caught my eye because they offer take-out options for easy and convenient snacks to bring back home. When I entered the shop, I saw a variety of baumkuchen displayed in the showcase. I decided to purchase three stick baumkuchen for a special deal of 1000 yen, as well as three flavors of anko chibi baum. The stick baumkuchen had a soft and buttery texture with a rich flavor, especially the chocolate and matcha ones. The coating was sweet but not overwhelming, making it easy to enjoy. As for the anko chibi baum, the strawberry flavor stood out the most, while the mango and melon flavors were a bit subtle. Overall, the baumkuchen looked visually appealing and would make a great souvenir. I would definitely consider buying them again in the future. Thank you for the delicious treats!

I stopped by this shop while I was in Otaru to pick up some bread! I've been curious about it as a fan of Baumkuchen. It seems like the manufacturer is Enkamigami, but I wonder if they are affiliated or if they just order from them? I took a picture of the Plain Baum, and the Anchi Baum (Mango) together because they were so colorful. The Mango one had a strong mango flavor which was quite interesting! However, I forgot to take a picture of the Plain Baum which was actually the most delicious, so I recommend that one haha. It had a strong egg (and maybe vanilla) flavor, and was moist. It was a type of Baumkuchen that I had never tried before and I thought it was really good. I generally like sweets with a strong egg flavor, so I would like to try this again. The Baum Stick (Plain, Double Matcha, Double Chocolate) was not too sticky, more like compact, with a bit of moistness and not too dry. It was well made. Surprisingly, the Matcha and Chocolate flavors were not too sweet and easy to eat. I might like this more than Ringring's Hard Baum. They also had other varieties like Creme Brulee Baum and Manju, so there was a wide range of options. Thank you for stopping by, Wu-ta-san!

After curry, you always crave dessert. I visited Maruamami Co., Ltd. in the Minami-Otaru area. They are known as Ishikura Baum, and they offer various types of baumkuchen. I bought a cube-shaped cream puff called Cube Choux. Maruamami means "want to make customers smile with round-shaped sweets," but I chose a square-shaped one. The Cube Choux is sold frozen and takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to thaw. I bought two custard and two strawberry flavors. There were also chocolate and matcha flavors available. When I got home, I ate it in a semi-thawed state. I tried the strawberry one, and when I cut it in half, I found it filled with strawberry cream! Since it was semi-thawed, it had a crispy texture and was not too sweet. The dough was more like a pie crust than a cream puff. At 324 yen per piece, it may be a bit pricey, but it was a delicious cream puff. Thank you for the meal!

Most of the items were sold frozen. The creme brulee was crispy and delicious. The Baumkuchen cake was moist with a mild sweetness, and the cream was also not too sweet, very tasty. I tried the normal creme brulee. It might make a good souvenir. I couldn't try the cube-shaped cream puffs, but I'll buy them next time.

I happened to pass by and saw a shop selling a pack of Baumkuchen ears. There were six rings in the pack (I received one as a gift right after purchase, so the photo shows five). It cost 50 yen. The outside is crispy and lightly fragrant. It tastes like a baked treat with the aroma of sugar and butter. Baumkuchen is often moist, but this one leans more towards a baked donut texture. It's not too sweet, making it easy to eat, and could be a good option for breakfast. They also last for three days, so I might buy them again if I come across them.

I think there are trends even in Baumkuchen, and most of the popular ones sold in stores are of the "fluffy" type... Honestly, it's not really my preference. I believe that Baumkuchen should be of the "hard" type, where you can feel each layer distinctly. So, with high expectations, I decided to try the "Katakoyaki Baum." As recommended, I cut it vertically, and indeed, it has a unique texture. The outside is crispy, while the inside is chewy. Although the outside is coated with sugar, it's not overly sweet. The flavor from the fermented butter is also good, making it a well-made Baumkuchen with a light and enjoyable texture. The firm texture, as the name suggests, is to my liking. However, it's a bit on the pricier side for the level of satisfaction it offers. (I understand that the ingredients are of high quality though.)

I usually walk from Otaru Station to the Otaru Orgel Hall in the Otaru Fairy Tale Intersection, but this time my feet were not feeling well, so I decided to walk down the hill from Minami-Otaru Station for the first time. As soon as I got off at Minami-Otaru Station, I rediscovered a shop called "Koto." I definitely want to stop by here next time. Further down the hill towards the Fairy Tale Intersection, I found a shop called "Otaru Ishizura Baum" just before the intersection. It was my first time hearing about or seeing this shop. It looked quite nice and delicious, so I said hello (^^)/ Inside the shop was surprisingly compact, with only one row of showcases, and you could see the workshop through the glass at the back. They sell two types of baum: a mini baum in a donut shape with a diameter of about 8 cm and a thickness of about 2 cm, and a vertical-cut baum in a snake belly shape, as well as a few flavors like plain and chocolate-coated ones. I purchased a set of three flavors of the mini plain baum, decorated baum with chocolate, strawberry, and white chocolate, and the hard-baked baum in three flavors (white, black, strawberry). I tried each one, and the different coatings didn't overpower the taste, making it easy to enjoy. I'm sure it's because the plain baum, which serves as the base, is delicious on its own. I would like to try the karinto manju next time.

On the way from Nishi-Otaru Station to the bustling canal filled with tourists, there is a baumkuchen specialty shop called "Otaru Ishizura Baum" that opened in December 2014. The name of the shop was inspired by the fact that it is located in a renovated storehouse. The texture of their baumkuchen is fluffy and light. The "Kinako Baum" has a unique twist with the taste of kinako powder, giving it a traditional Japanese confectionery feel. The "Chibi Baum" is made with a touch of Western liquor, giving it a more contemporary dessert taste. Otaru is becoming a sweets destination, following in the footsteps of Sapporo, and this shop serves as a gateway to the southern part of the city.

After enjoying delicious seafood, I was looking for souvenirs in Otaru. I didn't have much time, so I searched for a nearby place and found this one. It was my first visit and I was impressed by the very polite service. I also tried some samples. - Visit Date: June 21, 2014 (Saturday) / around 3:00 PM - Purpose: Bought souvenirs and some for home - Order: Decobauhm (270 yen) / Chibibauhm (190 yen) - Time from order to serving: Immediately - Food impressions: The Chibibauhm (plain one) was moist and not too sweet, very delicious. The cost performance might not be the best. There are two types, one is firm and the other is regular, so you can choose based on your preference. - Recommended point: They offer shipping, so it's a good option for tourists looking for souvenirs. The products were put in a large paper bag, it would be nice if they could provide a smaller bag for easier carrying. It's not too far from the Otaru Canal, so it's within walking distance for tourists. The souvenirs were well received by those I gave them to.

Welcome! This Italian restaurant is located near Minami-Otaru Station in the Nyoze area of Otaru City, where I remember skipping by in the past. On my way for lunch before heading back to Sapporo, I stumbled upon it. The simple interior of the restaurant features two showcases and friendly staff waiting to greet you. The showcases display traditional treats reminiscent of old shops in the area, such as karinto manju and baumkuchen. I recommend trying the crispy baumkuchen and the hedgehog-shaped karinto manju. I opted for a taste test and was satisfied with both, so I left the restaurant. The staff was very polite and even invited me to come back if I ever pass by again. I bought some karinto manju as a souvenir and enjoyed its delicious flavors. The karinto manju had a soft and crispy texture with a sweet black sugar taste, while the baumkuchen had a moist and condensed sweetness. Both were delightful treats that I would recommend. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

I visited "Otaru Ishikura Baum" a couple of times when it first opened in 2011. Recently, I found a product at Otaru's "Museum of Western Art" and purchased the "Anchibi Baum (Melon) @270". The packaging was securely double-wrapped in vinyl. Upon opening the bag, I noticed a subtle melon flavor with a firm and slightly chewy texture. I had tried a similar product before and liked it, but this one had a softer texture and a more delicate melon flavor, which I really enjoyed. I am now considering visiting the main store again. Thank you for the delicious treat!

I bought this cube-shaped cute cream puff at an event. When I cut it in half, I was surprised to see it filled with cream! Is this bread? No, it's not a Danish pastry either... It's made with puff pastry, right? Ah, it's a puff pastry cube. The outer part (bottom) has a slightly burnt taste, which adds to the flavor. The pastry is firm and chewy, but the inside is filled with fluffy cream. It's incredibly light and delicious! I want to eat more! I regret only buying one. It was so delicious that I don't mind gaining weight for it. Thank you for the treat! Cube Cream Puff - 450 yen (tax included)

I ordered the Crème Brûlée Custard in Baum for delivery. It cost 1,650 yen and was delivered frozen. The outer layer is Baumkuchen, the middle is custard cream, and the top is brûléed. It was really delicious - the inside was moist and the top was crispy. Thank you for the meal!
