When you order their only specialty, the Katsudon, they give you a stern look and seem quite annoyed. They even warn you that it will take some time! If they don't want to be open, they shouldn't be. The taste has changed quite a bit in the past two years, and it's too salty now! I prefer it a bit sweeter. This time, the Katsu was good with no fatty parts, and I finished it all. The thick Katsu was something I had never seen before, and the cost performance is great, but I'm starting to think twice about revisiting!

Today's order was: - Katsu Curry 1,300 yen (for me) - Katsudon 1,300 yen (for my colleague) The Katsudon is famous, but as a fan of Katsu Curry, it didn't matter to me. I went with the Katsu Curry! I received my food after waiting for about 15 minutes. The size of the katsu was pleasantly surprising - it was big and not too hard! The curry was nothing special, just a typical homemade style curry. The fact that the curry rice was 650 yen and the Katsu Curry was 1,300 yen means that the "Katsu" was 650 yen! For example, the tamagodon costs 650 yen, but the katsudon is 1300 yen. The curry rice costs 650 yen, but the katsu curry is 1300 yen. When you add the katsu, it's double the price! Do you eat two plates of curry rice or one plate of katsu curry... that's the question! This is something that piques your interest and makes you want to try it, right? The atmosphere inside the restaurant hasn't changed at all in the past six years. I visit this place every year, and the volume is amazing! I always go for the highest volume katsudon here! It's not katsu curry. But maybe due to old age? I had been wanting to try this restaurant in Toyotomi Town for a while. Their thick cutlet is famous, and most people from out of town tend to order the cutlet rice bowl at least once. The cutlet is incredibly thick, so if you go with a strong craving for a cutlet rice bowl, you will most likely be satisfied. The flavor is not as strong as you might expect, so the balance with the rice is not bad. It's quite a hearty meal, so it might be tough to finish if you're not prepared. Observing other customers, it seemed like riders on tour and clearly those from outside the area mostly ordered the cutlet rice bowl, while locals seemed to order other menu items surprisingly. The prices are not that high, so it might be worth trying something else. However, Marukatsu-tei is strongly associated with the cutlet rice bowl. I wonder if the locals in Toyotomi Town have a different perception?

I went to Toyotomi for a coastal bus tour and Marukatsu-tei. Of course, I ordered the katsu-don! I was surprised by the overflowing bowl at first impression. I visited the popular restaurant Marukatsutei in Toyotomi Town. While the specialty dish is the katsudon, I decided to order the tamagodon instead as I tend to get heartburn from fried foods these days. Interestingly, all the other customers ordered the katsudon. The tamagodon was simple and not bad in taste, although I found it a bit salty. Overall, I enjoyed my meal.

The katsudon has a huge piece of tonkatsu! It's too much for one person, especially a woman. I usually don't eat fatty meat but the pork loin was light and easy to eat.

I finally had the chance to eat katsudon. It was not the crispy batter as mentioned in reviews, but rather katsu in broth. Personally, I prefer the egg to be soft and runny.

I came all the way here based on everyone's comments. It seems to be run by a couple, but the service and friendliness are not great. You have to press the button on the intercom near the counter to place an order. The pork cutlet bowl is highly recommended, so I ordered it without hesitation, but it's expensive (1100 yen)!! The meat is thick and sticks out from the lid, so I was looking forward to it. It took about 20 minutes to arrive. The meat is thick, but the texture is not great and for some reason, it tastes strongly of soy sauce. The egg on top is not very well cooked either. It was a dining experience unique to the countryside.
