I didn't go to see one of the world's top three sunsets, but instead found myself waiting at Kushiro Station. The bakery, formerly known as "Hokkaido San Germán," has now rebranded and become independent from its headquarters. They have 70 stores across Hokkaido under three different brands. While they haven't fully focused on Hokkaido specialties, they have maintained that appearance. After 6 p.m., some items are discounted by 30%. By the way, the milk in the photo was purchased from another store, as they do not use local Hokkaido products. It is now part of the "Create Restaurant Holdings" along with the original "San Germán," which seems fitting.

I arrived at Kushiro Station right at 10 o'clock. Both Shari in Shiretoko where I stayed yesterday and Kushiro are cold. Even with a thin layer over my T-shirt, it's still chilly. I am staying in Kushiro tonight, but in about an hour, I will be boarding the Hanasaki Line. There are a few dining options at the station which is convenient. However, some of the restaurants open at 10:30, so my choices are limited. I decided to eat at a bakery called "Levain". Since I had a rice ball from Seicomart for breakfast (it is a Hokkaido trip after all), I just ordered one piece of bread and a drink. I chose the "French Sandwich Potato" which is cheap and filling because I prioritized something that would keep me full (I really felt hungry yesterday). For my drink, I went for the "Milk Tea for Bread Lovers" pack which was an unusual choice. They had a toaster and a microwave, so I had it warmed up in the microwave. The bread had a cut in it which made it easy to eat. It's just a regular bakery, but the staff and the atmosphere of the place were nice.

The location inside the train station seemed very convenient. The rice roll was a delightful treat with its chewy texture and natural sweetness. It had been a while since I had one, and it did not disappoint. The Hokkaido wheat soft salt bread was also a pleasant surprise. The fluffy dough wrapped around generous butter was flavorful, with a perfect balance of slight sweetness and rich saltiness. The aroma of fermented butter and the use of "Fleur de Sel" salt made it a delicious and unique treat. The coffee was pre-brewed and not made to order, which could be convenient for those in a hurry. They also had a nostalgic peanut cream that looked tempting. Overall, it was a satisfying breakfast experience at Ref Boulangerie.

JR Kushiro Station-limited bread in the shape of Hokkaido, called Kushiro's Wetland Bread. The shop is called Refbon, and it seems to be a new chain bakery with many locations in Sapporo as well. You can also dine in at the store. The bread shaped like the Kushiro Wetland is limited, so it was a bit pricey.

After eating breakfast at Kushiro Station, I was worried about getting hungry during my travels, so I bought an egg sandwich from this bakery inside the station. In the end, I didn't eat it during my journey and saved it for a late-night snack at the hotel. The sandwich had eggs that were not completely mashed, with the shapes of the egg white and yolk still visible. It was sandwiched between fluffy bread, allowing for a pleasant egg texture that was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the bakery around 2 pm in March 2023. It is located in Kushiro Station and I was surprised to find out that it is actually a chain store inside CO-OP Kaizuka. The shop had a stylish display with bread inside glass cases that you can pick yourself. I bought walnut bread and milk bread, but I only took a picture of the milk bread. The milk bread had a slightly hard texture with milk cream inside, it was okay. The walnut bread was surprisingly heavy and had lots of walnuts inside, it was delicious! I prefer more affordable bread like this over fancy ones. They also had seating available, but there was a sign saying "no mobile phone use allowed" on the tables.

I had a retro chocolate bread and coffee at a retro bakery inside Kushiro Station. The hot coffee cost 130 yen. Kushiro Station is unnecessarily spacious with a nostalgic atmosphere, and the station bento is sold at the souvenir shop and quickly sells out.

While exploring the station building at JR Kushiro Station, I found a delicious-looking bakery. I bought some pastries to go and ate them later in my room. The most delicious one was a green-colored bread called "Wetland Bread," with a great combination of matcha almond cream and black beans.

In August 2022, they offer coffee floats and soft-serve ice cream for only 280 yen each, which is rare to find under 300 yen these days. The soft-serve ice cream is made with local milk, making it a great deal. You don't even have to go to Betsukai Town for this, so it's a hidden gem in my opinion. I think not many people have noticed it yet. I'll definitely come back again!

Today, I took the first train from Akkeshi to Kushiro. Due to the timing of the train departure, I had breakfast near Kushiro Station. I bought a sausage-filled bread at this bakery inside Kushiro Station. Today, I took the Kushiro Main Line from Kushiro to Abashiri.

I moved from Sapporo to Kushiro and got hungry, so I bought some bread at Refbon in JR Kushiro Station. I was thinking of taking it to go, but they also had an eat-in area with drinks starting at 150 yen, so I decided to eat there. I bought a calzone, crispy tomato curry bread, and a chewy soy sauce flavored donut. I microwaved them before eating. The calzone had a chewy crust with diced sausage and herbs that tasted delicious! The crispy tomato curry bread had a rich curry flavor even though it didn't have a lot of filling inside. The chewy soy sauce flavored donut was a mix of Japanese and Western flavors, perfect as a snack or light meal. I could eat 5-6 of these. It seems like a nice place to take a break with a drink. The bread was displayed in a showcase, and they seemed to have thorough COVID-19 measures in place. Thank you for the meal.

The bread is displayed in a glass case for self-service, which helps to keep it warm for a longer time. They also have a dining area, but I chose takeout. I bought a walnut bread for 167 yen. It had a very simple and rustic appearance.

On this day, I visited the Kushiro Marsh for sightseeing. I was looking for breakfast and hesitated at Kushiro Station, the starting point of my journey. Suddenly, I saw a sign for marsh bread right in front of me. Since I wasn't a fan of sweet treats, I opted for a curry-filled bread called "chibiri pan." It was delicious and made for a satisfying breakfast before exploring the marsh.

When I visited Ekimae Higashiya, I stopped by this place. Upon entering, I was impressed by the stylish interior design, which seemed to be a response to COVID-19 measures. In the midst of this, they offered burgers and hot dogs - items not commonly seen at Revborn. And they were delicious! I hope this can be introduced to all stores.

This was my first visit as I believe it wasn't here last time I was in Kushiro. The bakery smells amazing with the scent of freshly baked bread filling the air. I bought the most popular item, Royal Milk bread, and it was delicious. It had a fluffy texture with a sweet milk flavor. It was also a good size, so one was enough. Since the onigiri shop has closed down, I hope this bakery continues to thrive. Thank you for the meal.

Kushiro Station I have to catch a train soon but I'm starving. I'm tired of convenience store rice balls... I'll buy some bread to eat on the train. I ended up buying the limited edition Marshland bread from the chain bakery inside the station and the pirozhki recommended by the store manager. The Marshland bread has a shape that screams Hokkaido! It's the perfect bread to sell at Kushiro Station, a tourist spot. Tourists would definitely buy it, but even locals would love it. When you eat it, you can feel the green of the marshland with the gentle matcha flavor and aroma. The moist surface of the bread, like a real marshland, is sweet. The inside of the bread is soft like peat, and the black beans buried inside are a nice touch. This is the bread that represents Kushiro. It's delicious and well put together. The pirozhki is nicely puffed up and just delicious. Thanks for the meal.

Welcome.---------- May 2021 ----------Found next to Seven inside JR Kushiro Station, an automatic door leading to "Betsukai's Soft Cream, Koshi." You can eat in and enjoy soft serve ice cream, as well as purchase bread to eat. I like it when something is on top of bread... "Egg Sandwich" is cheap, so I bought it right away. Danish pastry with a rough crushed egg, gentle saltiness, and a satisfying thickness. "Delicious Sweet Curry Bread" has a chewy dough, plenty of thin vegetables, and a mildly sweet taste with almost no spiciness. "Raisin Bread" with a crunchy sugar topping, moist and fluffy dough with the sweetness of raisins. Overall, it's sweet. You could even add rum-soaked raisins. "Soft Salt Bread" with a rough sprinkle of coarse sugar, croissant dough mixed with maple, layers of sweetness, and a light saltiness. A snack bread type. All of them are reasonably priced and there were many elderly customers.

Visit date February 21, 2021 After having lunch on this day, I went to JR Kushiro Station to have some tea. However, the coffee shop I was looking for was closed. Since I had come all the way, I decided to buy some bread at Le Pain. Items purchased: - SL bread 237 yen - Chocolate and walnut rustic bread 159 yen - Orange sweet fromage 170 yen - Salt bread The SL bread seemed to be exclusive to JR Kushiro store. The flake-like chocolate on top was a bit messy to eat, but the bitter chocolate flavor was not as heavy as it looked, and the cocoa-flavored bread was quite delicious. The chocolate and walnut rustic bread had a slight buttery aroma. The chocolate stood out, but there was only a little walnut, which was a bit disappointing. I wanted more walnuts. The orange sweet fromage had a smooth and sweet cheese with orange peel. The refreshing scent of orange was delightful. This one was also delicious. The salt bread was a classic. I surprisingly like Le Pain's salt bread. It seems that you can use PayPay for payment. Thank you for the meal.

This is the perfect shop to pass the time before catching the train back to Sapporo! They have a variety of breads for breakfast, making it hard to choose.
