Title: "Sapporo Trip in Autumn 2018 Part 5, First Day at the Usual Kaikatsu"
I went on a trip to Sapporo in autumn 2018 for the first time in 3 years. This time, it was a trip where I individually booked a low-cost carrier (LCC), and the prices were amazing! The round trip between Narita and New Chitose was less than 12,000 yen, which was surprisingly cheap. And the Kaikatsu CLUB Atsubetsu Higashi store was also very affordable. The Night Pack for 8 hours was only 1,234 yen including tax, and it even came with a free morning service! It could be said that Kaikatsu CLUB is the darling of deflation. Among the three pricing systems at Kaikatsu CLUB, this was the cheapest one (there are even cheaper pricing systems in Aichi Prefecture, but among the basic three systems, this was the cheapest). When we arrived at around 12:30 AM, the flat seats were available. This time, I visited with a friend, and we were given adjacent booths. The flat seats were wider than at other Kaikatsu CLUB locations, and at 175 cm tall, I was able to fully stretch my legs. It seems like even people over 180 cm tall could fit comfortably. As soon as we settled into the flat seats, we went to the drink bar to have soft serve ice cream and drinks. I ate and drank quickly, then fell asleep right away. I woke up around 8 AM the next morning. I felt like I woke up a few times before that, but I was tired so I fell back asleep quickly. I immediately ordered the free morning service. This time, I also ordered the "Potato Salad" for 108 yen including tax. The free morning service and Potato Salad arrived in about 7 minutes after ordering. The contents were... potato fries, ketchup, half-cut toast, solid margarine, corn, etc. It's understandable that the portions were small, as it was free and only 108 yen. I won't go into detail about the free morning service since it's well-known. The corn was cold, the toast had lost its warmth, so I had to warm up the margarine with the corn soup before spreading it on. According to my friend in the adjacent booth, the potato fries were "crispy and delicious." They were indeed crispy and quite tasty. The Potato Salad was about the size of a 10-year-old's fist. It was very delicious, probably because it used potatoes from Hokkaido. The potatoes were roughly mashed, giving it a chunky texture, and the acidity was low. The vegetables were finely chopped, making it easy for anyone to eat. I had this with soft serve ice cream and corn soup from the self-service corner for breakfast. Just be aware that there are resting periods for the soft serve ice cream, around 2 AM to 8 AM... it varies slightly by location. I checked out after about 7 hours and 55 minutes of stay, paying 1,342 yen with WAON. I received about 6 WAON points and 26 Kaikatsu points. Since I spent over 5,000 yen last month, I get double points this month. (2018.10.12)
