Originally a cake-only shop, Toy's Sweets now has three main items on their menu - cakes, croissants, and stew lunches. However, starting from July 1st, they will be taking a break from serving lunches for a while. It's such a shame because their food is delicious! Today, I had to go to the hospital, so before heading back to work, I stopped by and bought a croissant. Every Tuesday, they sell various types of croissants, but today they didn't have the ones I wanted like braised pork or sausage. I ended up buying apple jam (350 yen) and almond (350 yen) croissants. Both were crispy and delicious, with a nice buttery aroma. The apple jam croissant tasted like a croissant version of apple pie and was very tasty. The almond croissant had a nice texture change as well. Personally, I preferred the apple jam one. Both croissants were quite filling and satisfying. However, they tend to crumble and make a mess, so it might be challenging to eat in the car. Overall, it was a delicious meal.

I went to watch my sons' club activities in Asari, Otaru and stopped by a cake shop. The cake shop "Toys Sweet" in Asarigawa Onsen. Since I don't often go to Asari, I decided to make a little detour while I was there. The croissant was delicious, with a crispy outer layer and a fluffy inside. The butter flavor was strong and the texture was just right. I also bought various cakes and puddings. I tried the "Matcha Opera" for myself, and the white chocolate was amazing. This shop also offers custom cakes where you can request a portrait of your beloved dog made out of sweets. You can enjoy the cake with your family and your dog!

I purchased for the first time at Maikaru's Otaru Sweets Fest♪ ・Croissant (Almond) ¥350 It smells so good!! Delicious things have a nice aroma, right? Just by holding the bag, you can tell it's perfectly crispy! I take a bite at the corner → Yes, it's a winner!! It's delicious!! I regret not buying more! I should have bought a regular croissant too!! For this price, the taste is too good! I'm happy! The shape is beautiful! It tasted like the ones I had in Paris. The almond cream's crispy and flaky texture is also delicious. The cream is delicious. My niece bought a regular one and she liked it! She loves croissants so much. I tend to buy the croissant amande (almond) too. When I lived in Tokyo, I didn't buy them in the summer because the humidity was too high and they wouldn't be crispy. I don't feel like baking them again. In Hokkaido, there isn't that kind of humidity, so they seem delicious even in the summer. In Paris, even in small bakeries or kiosks, the croissants are always crispy and delicious. I wonder why? Is it the humidity or the butter? Maybe the cows are different? Milk is delicious after all. I want to try the freshly baked croissant and chocolate drink at Toy's Sweet. ・Georges Sand ¥480 I fell in love at first sight with the cute pink macaron and the beautiful contrast of black and red. It's cute, but the macaron is so-so... The red raspberry part is slightly sweet and sour, but... the taste seems lighter than the appearance. The chocolate part is amazing! Rich! Delicious!! Just the chocolate part without the raspberry is the best!! I gave it to my chocolate-loving father and he said, "Mmm! Delicious!" It's a personal preference, but... I don't need the macaron, I want a chocolate cake with frozen strawberries on top, with a little strawberry jam between the sponge and the cream. I want to try it! I want to eat croissants again! It was really delicious!! I wonder if they serve stew for lunch? I'm really curious, so I want to go for lunch. So, Mr. Kan worked at the Hilton in Europe, right? I stayed at the Hilton in Munich, and the bread was delicious. The butter for the bread was also delicious. Maybe because it was Germany, there were no croissants, though. #Croissant 4.0

In February 2022, my son's birthday cake used to be decorated with characters from "Yonekahoudo," but since it closed last year, we switched to "Toys Sweet" this year. The head chef at the Kanou store here used to be the deputy chef at Geneva Hilton and trained at the three-star restaurant "Trois Gros Michel Laurent." He then worked as the head chef of French cuisine at the Sapporo Keio Plaza Hotel when it opened. In 1987, he opened the French restaurant "Toys" in Sapporo's Chuo Ward with the renowned chef from Otaru, "La Cheminee." In 1990, he opened the French pastry shop "Toys Sweet" and has been running the confectionery "Toys Sweet" at the current location since then. By the way, it is said that Mr. Kanou was the one who popularized cookies shoes and panna cotta in Japan. As for this time's character decoration (6-inch cake for 5,500 yen), my son, who is currently into cars, wanted a Ferrari design, but I asked for something without the emblem, and they kindly accommodated the request. The whipped cream here is subtly sweet but has a rich taste and a high-quality texture. The whipped cream from "Yonekahoudo" also had a unique deliciousness, but the one here is also delicious. Additionally, this time, I reserved and bought the special croissant in a square shape, which is equivalent to four regular croissants in size and costs 800 yen per piece. The taste is crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle, so the only difference is the shape. It was delicious whether eaten as is or lightly toasted. They are currently closed for lunch, but once the restrictions are lifted, I will visit to taste Mr. Kanou's cuisine after a long time!

On the way back from eating ramen in Jozankei, I stopped to buy souvenirs for the kids. I don't know anything about cakes, so my wife chose one and I paid for it. I don't know the name of the cake or how much it cost. All I know is that we got 5 cakes for just under 2000 yen, and everyone said they were delicious. Sorry for the lackluster review.

December 2015 (11 images added) I apologize for not being able to reply to recent comments. Do you all know about the legendary French restaurant "Toys" in Sapporo Chuo-ku during the bubble era? The chef who worked there at the time was "Hanagata Chef" and Monsieur Kanno, also known as Chef Kanno. While Hanagata Chef continues to provide dishes that impress foodies at a leading French restaurant in Otaru, Monsieur Kanno, who worked at "Toys" in Sapporo, has been working as a pastry chef here for many years, but had retired from the front lines as a French chef. However, what a surprise, starting last month, he decided to showcase his skills as a chef again, but this time for lunch only (excluding Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 14:00)! I have only eaten at "Toys" once while living in Sapporo, but I was excited to have Monsieur Kanno's cuisine again, so I brought along a companion who is usually treated as baggage and visited the restaurant. The lunch menu seems to focus on stews that are popular with people of all ages: - Pork Tomato Stew (1,000 yen) - Seafood Cream Stew (1,000 yen) - Beef Stew (1,600 yen) Each comes with bread or rice and coffee. I had the Beef Stew, and my companion had the Seafood Cream Stew. You can also add a marinated salad and dessert for an additional 300 yen, which I highly recommend! The marinated salad that came first included pumpkin, cabbage, potato, and tomato marinated with vegetables mainly from Yoichi. The tomatoes and pumpkin were sweet and delicious, and the cabbage had a curry flavor. These vegetables seem to change depending on the season. Now, the stews arrived, and the Beef stew had a rich demi-glace sauce with a great depth of flavor! It was one of the best I've had recently! The beef was tender and delicious, with 5-6 pieces included. There were stick-shaped daikon radishes and deep-fried burdock on top, giving it a Western touch (laughs). The bread was homemade and incredibly soft. The sauce was so delicious that dipping the bread in it was amazing! All this for 1,600 yen with coffee was a surprise. The Seafood Cream Stew my companion had was made with an American sauce that highlighted the umami of the shrimp. It included shrimp, cod, squid, baby scallops, and clams, allowing you to enjoy a variety of seafood caught near Otaru in one dish. Both stews were undoubtedly "sauce-centric" dishes! I was particularly impressed by the Beef Stew. And now, the dessert - just look at the image! This and the salad for 300 yen is unbelievable! The waitress seemed inexperienced and did not explain the dishes, so the details are unknown, but it included cherries marinated in red wine, pudding, ice cream, and chocolate cake. There's no need to explain the dessert further (laughs). I thoroughly enjoyed Monsieur Kanno's cuisine after a long time, and this is the kind of food that makes you want to come back regularly. Well, even if you mention "Toys" in Sapporo, people in their 20s to 40s may not know what it is (laughs). Thank you very much~~~ (>_<)

I knew about this shop but didn't have many opportunities to eat there. However, luckily I had a chance to eat at work! I tried the strawberry tart (315 yen) and it was delicious! The strawberries were very sweet and paired well with the creamy cheesecake layer underneath. The sponge was fine and elegant. I later found out that it was only 315 yen, which was a good value for the price. There was also a chocolate cake available, but I chose the tart. It was a tough decision, as the chocolate cake looked delicious too.

Route 1 in Hokkaido. The first prefectural road in Hokkaido connecting Asari in Otaru City and Jozankei in Minami-ku, Sapporo City. Along the route, there are hot springs and ski resorts in both Otaru and Sapporo. In Otaru, there is the Asarigawa Onsen and Asarigawa Onsen Ski Resort. In Sapporo, there is the Jozankei Onsen and Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort. I'm not a fan of the cold, so I often take this road when going to hot springs. From the Asari Interchange towards Asarigawa Onsen, you will see a small sign for this shop on the right. Following the sign, you will see a large, toy-like building as you climb the hill into the residential area. The exterior is stylish, and the yellow fire hydrant next to the shop blends in well. The shop itself is small inside, with toy-like cakes displayed in the showcase. I bought three types: Strawberry Tart, Chocolat Classique, and Earl Grey Shortcake. A week later, I forgot the taste of each, but they were delicious and had an elegant sweetness. My partner wanted to try all the cakes in the showcase, especially the Mont Blanc cake. I stumbled upon this place on my way to and from the hot springs, and it's a great find for enjoying sweet treats during the cold season. I wonder if there will be a venue at the Asarigawa Onsen for the "Snow Light Road" event in February. Finding the shop may be a bit challenging, but the excitement of opening a toy box awaits.

On the way back from Shikotsu, we stopped by a shop along the Fruit Highway. According to the guidebook, there was a small seating area on the second floor, but when we asked, we were told it was only for takeout. So, we bought some cakes and decided to eat them in the car. I got a custard pudding and an apple tart, while my friend got a cherry tart. While paying, I noticed a chocolate pudding recommended by the toy appraiser Kitahara on the wall, so I couldn't resist ordering two of each - white chocolate and regular chocolate. The custard pudding and apple tart were average, nothing special. The chocolate pudding was not like a typical pudding, it was softer and had a nice balance of sweetness. Personally, I preferred the white chocolate over the regular chocolate.

I, who loves cream and pudding, found "Otaru Fresh Cream Pudding" at Otaru Station. It was a pure white pudding in a milk bottle. It looked so delicious that I impulsively bought it. When I opened the package, finely ground coffee powder scattered everywhere. Huh? I should have checked the ingredients properly, but what I wanted to eat was a cream pudding, not coffee powder. The pudding had a bland, unremarkable taste. My taste buds were confused by the coffee powder, and I couldn't really enjoy it. I just wanted to eat a pure white pudding.

I have been using this place for a long time and have tried their cakes a few times. I didn't have a particularly memorable impression, just a safe image of their cakes. However, this time I happened to be nearby and bought 7 different types of shortcakes on a whim. Without expecting much, I tried the whimsical cakes made by the patissier or chef (probably not their regular items). I was surprised! They are delicious! I wonder if the cakes here have always been this good? Maybe it was just this particular cake? Other cakes are delicious too! My daughter, who is picky about cakes, also praised them. They are not too sweet, not too light, and I think the cost performance is good at around 350 yen each. It takes courage for ordinary people to spend over 400 yen on just one shortcake, even if it's delicious. Despite being in a hard-to-find and inconvenient location with a confusing entrance, I feel like I understand why they have been around for so many years. I finally had a satisfying cake after a long time. I hope they continue to do their best in the future.

I visited this shop on my way back from a day trip to Otaru. It is located near Asarigawa Onsen and a bit hard to find, so I recommend using a navigation app. I decided to visit this shop because it was previously featured on a TV show called "Golden Legend". I bought two items that were introduced on the show, which were the Chocolat Pudding Roll and Otaru Milk Pudding. The Pudding Roll cost 284 yen and it was like a roll cake with chocolate dough and pudding inside. The chocolate flavor was stronger than the pudding, and while it might be good for chocolate lovers, pudding enthusiasts might find it a bit lacking in pudding flavor. The Otaru Milk Pudding had a great balance of milk and egg flavors, complemented well by the caramel. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This is a small and cute shop near Asarigawa Onsen. Their unique dish, "Chocolat Blanc," is a white chocolate pudding. With each bite, you'll taste a creamy flavor followed by a subtle sweetness of white chocolate that spreads in your mouth. It has a mysterious texture that's a mix of pudding and mousse, making it a taste that's likely to become addictive after just one try.

This is a gift - a set of truffle chocolate crunch and dried fruit mix. I have received items from the same store a few times before, but this is my first time trying the "dried fruits" in this set. They have a strong crunch but are not too sweet, which I really liked. The chocolates are all very sweet and lack a cocoa flavor, which I think would be appealing to Americans. Thank you for the meal!

It's chocolate, a gift from someone. It's not like Dr. Kishibe from Kamihara Clinic brought melon and a bill. I received two different chocolate bars from a sweets shop called "Toys Sweets" in Otaru Asarigawa Onsen. One has orange peel in it, and the other one has caramel and nuts. The packaging has a design like an English newspaper, but I can't understand what's written on it. If anyone knows, please tell me. Chocolate bars are usually quite sweet, but I wonder if these will be too sweet. The other one is like a Chupa Chups lollipop with a chocolate ball on a stick. I can't seem to finish it, so I bite it in half. Inside the coated chocolate, there's truffle chocolate, a chocolate duet. This one is not as sweet as the chocolate bar and I quite like it. Apparently, the shop is a cake shop, so I would like to try their shortcake next time I visit Otaru.

In November 2017, my wife purchased a cake called "Camembert Cru" at the Nature Chamber on the 1st floor of Wing Bay Otaru during the Otaru Sweets Festa 2017 event. The cake was from the shop "Toys Sweet" run by Mr. Mushu Kanno. The cake looked similar to LeTao's Double Fromage, but it tasted a bit different. It seemed to be a mix of cream cheese and Camembert cheese powder, with a distinct cheese flavor. The cake also had sponge cake inside, making it more like a traditional cake compared to Double Fromage. Our daughter, who finds Double Fromage too rich, was able to enjoy this cake. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference.

There was an event similar to a Hokkaido Fair at Yume Town Ube. I bought this "Otaru Milk Pudding" which was unexpectedly rich in variety. It cost a little over 300 yen. The pudding has a mild sweetness. Looking at the ingredients, it seems to use wine. According to the internet, it is a high-quality pudding made with Red Ai River Mountain Ranch's low-temperature sterilized milk and Otaro Niagara wine, made from 100% Hokkaido grapes known for their high-quality wine (Otaru wine). It is a mature pudding with a slightly restrained sweetness.

Good evening~. Due to a busy work schedule, I haven't been able to update for a while, but during that time, I visited the Hokkaido Fair at Hakata Hankyu, which was held until recently (4/15-4/21). On this day, my wife and I went in the morning before heading to Tenjin for shopping. Today, I will share the highlights of the Hokkaido Fair. First up was "Toi's Sweets," where we bought the "Otaru Fresh Cream Pudding" and the "Chocolat Blanc." The Otaru Fresh Cream Pudding looked like a regular pudding, but surprisingly, it had coffee powder on top! The combination of coffee bitterness and pudding sweetness was surprisingly delicious. The pudding was made with low-temperature sterilized milk, so it had a natural sweetness. It might not be sweet enough for those who prefer very sweet puddings, but it was light and tasty. The Chocolat Blanc was a white chocolate dessert that had a unique texture between pudding and mousse. The white chocolate flavor spread instantly upon eating, creating a delightful experience. These desserts were from a stylish cake shop in Otaru, and their cakes looked delicious as well. If you happen to come across this shop at a local event or food fair, I recommend giving their treats a try. Stay tuned for part 2 of the Hokkaido Fair at Hakata Hankyu.

There seems to be a shop in Asahikawa. I had wanted to stop by while in Otaru, but it was hard to find the opportunity due to the location. However, when I looked at the Christmas cake sales list at Daimaru (it's convenient because you can buy Christmas cakes from various shops), I saw the name of this shop... I was torn between this shop and others, but this time I chose this shop's cake. It's a roll cake with macarons on top and nuts on the surface. Inside, there are layers of mousse. I wonder if making something like this is difficult... Each part is delicious when eaten separately, but when eaten together, the deliciousness is enhanced even more. The decoration of a man holding an axe on top (could it be... Santa?) is surreal. I would like to visit the shop itself someday.
